It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family's privacy at this time.

Feck!

42 is no age.

Love Mobb Deep! :(

Rest in Peace Prodigy.

Holy sh... I was just listening to The Infamous this morning :| Sad stuff.

42 is no age to go, RIP. :(

The Infamous is a fecking classic.

I'm devastated.

Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones" was a gateway to hip-hop for me. That snare is seared into my brain. Spent hours playing this game listening to the song:

Used to be able to recite Prodigy's verse word for word.

I think the prison bid he did a few years had a toll on him. Plus sickle cell is a bitch of a disease. Pound for pound one of the greatest rappers Queens and hip-hop has witnessed.

Just sad.

Listening to infamous right now :(

Surely one of the best opening lines to a rap song ever.

'I break bread, ribs, hundred dollar bills/Peel on Ducatis and other four wheels' also 'I throw a TV at you crazy, bitches say 'P, you crazy' and 'You rap ni**as make me laugh, y'all crazy ass/And I don't give a feck what you sold, that shit is trash'. Timeless.

A real shame :( 42 is no age to go, saw mobb deep a few years ago in manchester, they were incredible

Might seem trivial but can someone add the second b in the thread title?

Sorry I didn't notice myself. Of course it's changed now.

Shit man. Was just listening to The Infamous the other night too. Still sounds as fresh today as it did then. RIP

Really one of the best Hip Hop albums of all time for me. Possibly top 5. There isn't a bad track on that album.

One of the two of my favourite Hip Hop duo's are now dead. Sean Price and P.

What's with rappers and dying young? I know some get shot (Big L, Pac, BIG) and obviously - it's life, people die - but there must be more to it?

Well P did have sickle cell.

Like many here I knew The Infamous by heart back in the day. P totally dominated that record, one of the finest of its time, which was possibly hop-hop's finest era. So many classics on one album with P's signature all over it.

RIP.

Rip, very sad. The Infamous is a classic and one of my go to albums. Another legend gone

The environment many try to escape is unforgiving and sometimes inescapable :(.

There is so many that you hear of that just go completely off the rails. Old Dirty Bastard springs to mind... etc.
