PSG Sporting Director Luis Campos is in ADVANCED talks to join Manchester United.| errr no he’s not

I think he would be better option than our current strikers , so I am all for this move.

Wasn't he dof? Not that I know the difference however

I think it's the same thing. Also the role itself is pretty different across clubs. I think with us Wilcox sets the football philosophy and makes sure that's integrated across the club, Vivell does the recruitment and scouting side, Matt Hargreaves does contract negotiations and Berrada manages all of that and oversees everything financially. Those are the main things a DoF/SD does at football clubs, but it seems we've decided to stick with the method of having the duties spread out.

One other thing is hiring and firing the manager, coaches and backroom staff. I am not sure who does that at United. I am also unsure how much experience Wilcox has at setting a football philosophy and making sure it's integrated across the club. He did that for only two years at Southampton and his other experience seems to only be in the academy at City. I hope he does a good job but I've been wary since we fired Ashworth, who had much more experience of that.

People on here say that Amorim was a Berrada appointment. So that suggests he's chosing our footballing philosophy.
My hunch however is we haven't decided on one and have just poached the best up and coming name.

I agree. It lines up with the stories of Ashworth's departure too, if they're to be believed. Berrada was working under City's DoF for a few years before he came here, so I have a feeling he's a lot more involved in the footballing decision making than the usual CEO, but he doesn't have a footballing background. More than Woodward had, but still, a similar situation if true. If he was heavily involved in getting Amorim, then imo that shouldn't be happening and we're making the same mistakes as in the past when we were all shouting for a DoF and a proper footballing philosophy that continues between managers.

It's painfully obvious, agreed. So far, any kind of long term strategy seems wishful thinking at best

Just above tailor, way better than soldier or spy.

I saw that in the cinema and thought what a slow jumbled mess that was despite the stellar talent in front and behind the scenes. Just like our team.

If this is true then it shows Ratcliffe realising they fecked up in letting Ashworth go and allowing Brailsford and Berrada to make footballing decisions that neither are anywhere near qualified to make and with how it’s worked out in going against Ashworth on two separate occasions they’re now just going for arguably the best guy in that role.

The club have obviously realised that they actually need a proper Sporting Director in place to oversee a style of play, a long term United formation and to oversee recruitment throughout every level from the first team to the academy alongside Wilcox and the plan of letting a commercial/sponsorship guy didn’t work with Woodward or Arnold and won’t with Berrada either.

I hope Campos coming in is true and not just a case of him looking for a new contract as he’s the best out there in his role and also won’t put up with any feckery from above, he’ll want to be in charge of the footballing department without interference from non footballing people which is exactly what we need.

If he realized he was wrong, he might as well go get Ashworth again. Shit like that happens all the time in the corporate world.

It's funny how Hojlund underperforming his XG, Garnachos' iffy decision-making and legacy of Murtough/ETH's inability to build a sustainable midfield base (and hence side getting dommed by midranking sides, Newcastle etc in centre of the park) all equate in some people's minds to 'Berrada and Wilcox being out of their depth making footballing decisions' and needing a 'grown up SD' to step in. Not sure certain fans have a balanced read on Amorim, let alone how execs who've been in the role for less than a year are doing....

How are all these footballing movers and shakers deemed qualified or unqualified for certain clubs in Europe? An unknown Dutch manager is taking the league with average performances from an average team. Midtable fodder is throwing a roundhouse to the league and United should be relegated but may qualify for the champions league if we beat a team two places below us. I'm a questioning reality at this point. Everybody and everyone is full if shit. A gamblers nightmare.

Think we can safely say was looking for new contract
