I hope we see something different in this game,

    De Gea
    Rafael...Smalling...Rojo...Shaw
    Herrera....Carrick
    Rooney
    Valencia............................Di Maria
    Falcao

Valdes, Jones, Blind, Pereira, Mata, Januzaj, RVP

    De Gea
    Rafael Smalling Evans Shaw
    Di Maria Carrick Blind Januzaj
    Rooney
    Welbeck Van Perise

I feel we could get away with it, the refs haven't been great this year and we're due a decision, they do say these things even out over the course of the season. I'll take one now, take the hit later.
Did we loan Danny back from the Gunners?

Also, a bit unfair playing with12

Some other people could argue that Di Maria needs to play at the center of the park but i totally disagree. This is the formation that i would love to see. I think its much more balanced. Di Maria needs to cut in though and mix it up. Same should Januzaj. Rooney and Herrera to interchange but not a lot of times. Rooney needs to get forward more (regardless of the formation we employ). He just offers more up top than when he's playing deep.

This is all a dream though. Its 3 at the back again this weekend.

I've been wondering whether we have the personnel to play a similar 4-4-2 system that works so well for City.

    ----------------------- De Gea ---------------------------------

    Rafael ---------Jones -----------Rojo-----------------Shaw

    ------------------Carrick -------Blind-------------------------

    -----Mata/Herrera .......................................Di Maria

    ..............................Rooney/Mata................................
    ...............................Falcao/Rooney............................

Similar to the diamond but one less forward making the same runs as the other and a little bit more support for the defensive midfielder which was probably the only bad thing about playing a diamond earlier in the season. Mata not playing wide but in a similar floating position to Silva and Di Maria being slightly wider. Shaw and Rafael are good/fit enough to provide the overlap.

Those saying "wishful thinking, it will be 3 at the back this weekend"... I can honestly seeing him changing it after us not creating anything for most of the game on Sunday.

Same here. But I wouldn't count on it since he has said we don't create enough a few times during the last four gameweeks or so.

It's a must win, there is no 2 ways about it - considering we are playing a team that is 19th, I am actually quite worried.

QPR's League position is extremely deceptive. They have the 8th best home record in the League and unbeaten in 7 since that jammy loss to Liverpool back in October. They're just historically bad away from Loftus Road. 0 points all season.

Definitely won't be an easy game.

Ok, on a serious note now, after the presser with Cheeky Van Gaal, we are definitely going to play 3 centre backs against "long ball QPR". A bit rich coming from hoof it United.
    I'm 83% sure our line up will be;

    DDG
    Jones Smalling Rojo
    Valencia Carrick Fellaini Blind
    Mata
    Rooney Di Maria
With us being a long ball side, expect Fellaini to be target man, ADM being the striker and a disjointed midfield with Rooney and Mata playing deeper than they should be.

I'll be a bit cynical and say Falcao and Herrera will definitely be on the bench as they are not liked much by Van Gaal.

Somehow I think we will play like this, which I wouldn't enjoy:

    De Gea

    Jones - Smalling - Rojo

    Valencia - Fellaini - Carrick - Blind

    di Maria

    Falcao - Rooney

    -------Carrick----Blind------

Almost exactly what I posted on another thread a few minutes ago.

Seems the most likely lineup. Mata in no way deserves to be dropped but I can see him picking Fellaini and Falcao this weekend, Fellaini for the long balls and Falcao to give him a chance, even if he doesn't really warrant a start. Also reading his recent interview on mutv, he seems to be defending the 3-5-2 saying that a few games ago we created loads of chances vs Spurs so the last 3 games aren't the fault of the system (don't agree at all there, the Spurs game was probably a bit of a fluke with the 3-5-2.)

Yeah, with Shaw, Rafael and Ander Herrera on the bench. Actually, I want to be optimistic, but it is extremely annoying.

Must win game but we haven’t been able to win these sorts of games all season, QPR are good are home we are bad away from home so I think it will be a draw, especially if we are playing 3-5-2. With RVP being out hopefully Falcao will be confined to the bench with Mata playing behind Rooney and then a nicely balanced midfield (ideally 4 at the back as well but that seems a long way off).

Fed up of watching players being shoe horned into the side, only two of Mata, Rooney, Falcao and RVP should be starting games when we have rest of our midfielders fit.

It's fecking QPR. Just play our best footballers and outplay them:

    ------Rooney-------
    DiMaria-Mata-Herrera
    ---Blind---Carrick---
    Shaw-----------Rafael/Valencia
    ---Smalling-Jones--
    ------De Gea------

If they sit back, take off one of Blind or Carrick at halftime, drop Herrera into their role and bring on Falcao, RVP or Januzaj.

There is no reason to go 5 at the back.

Let's resolve all the big issues - formations, Falcao, and Januzaj - at once and stomp QPR with this 433:

DDG / Rafael, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw / Carrick, Herrera, Rooney / Janzuaj, Falcao, di Maria

Don't see Rafael anywhere... Another 352?
Or Shaw, Rojo, Herrera, Blackett, Evans, McNair, Valencia... Only just realising how many it doesn't show and some of those are certain to be in the squad.

Evans is there. Blackett and McNair are hardly certainties, but you're correct about the others, hopefully we do see Rafael tomorrow.

It's extremely wishful thinking, but all I care to see is a proper back four in this game.

But we all know that's not going to happen.

Mata, our most inform player, doesn't deserve to be dropped for our most out of form player in Januzaj.

How can Januzaj be considered our most out of form player when Van Gaal has barely played him and on the odd time he did he played him in a stupid position (striker, CM and wingback)

    It's another LvG numbers game....
    352 and 1-1.
    Easy money at the bookies.
I don't think I've seen an 'expert' pundit who has predicted a United win tomorrow. Just shows how shit our football has been this season.
    Depressingly predictive.

Because every time he's played this season he's been terrible. From his cameos early on to his run of starts and his 30 minute cameo a few weeks ago. I'm struggling to think of a worse overall performer besides Evans.

The case for dropping Mata and indeed RVP is that they've been given a fair chance but don't appear to have a positive impact on the team. With Mata on the pitch this season we've scored 25 goals in 16 games (-30 mins net). Without Mata 9 goals in 5 games (+ 30 mins net). Last season a similar pattern. Our scoring rate under Moyes prior to Mata's arrival (36/22) was the same as when Mata was on the pitch.
