Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
1. Die Hard
2. Face Off
3. Predator
4. Gladiator
5. Terminator 2

8ish. Con Air
Is that “8ish” from the bottom?
Great thread! The categories do mix a bit - so does my top five.

1.) Apocalypse Now
2.) Space Odyssey 2001
3.) Raiders of the Lost Ark
4.) Touch of Zen
5.) Le voyage dans la lune
No other genre 2001 could have fitted into? …

Love the idea so thanks for creating the thread. But I also believe decades would be a better way. I really struggle with certain movies which could be placed into multiple genres. With decades there's no wriggle room and everything is clear.
However, here is my first attempt:

1. Apocalypse Now
2. A Man Escaped
3. The Battle of Algiers
4. Lawrence of Arabia
5. Mad Max Fury Road

Would also like to change my vote after the change of genres:

1. Aguirre
2. Fitzcarraldo
3. Mad Max Fury Road
4. Valhalla Rising
5. Die Hard

It’s Action & Adventure. They fit better than 2001: A Space Odyssey which should probably be in Sci-Fi.
Action and adventure. They are definitely adventure movies.
Fair enough. I feel they're secondarily adventure movies and primarily dramas but maybe that's me nitpicking...

Agree whoever said 2001 is a complete mad man :)

I don't agree that as a whole 2001 is a Sci-Fi movie mostly - just like Apocalypse Now is much more than a movie about war.

But yea, I read it as Action and/or Adventure but if the specific combo is meant 2001 doesn't really fit in all that well. But then again I'd question the adventure part of Die Hard and most of the other films mentioned on here so far :D

Yeah I know that Nic Cage is a bit of a meme but don't get the jokes about Con Air. It's an excellent action movie.
I like Cage to be honest - being in all of Face Off, Con Air and The Rock, I'm surprised so many don't! National Treasure is great, and he's made plenty of good films.

I was bitterly disappointed with Raising Arizona though. Terrible film.

Yeah. No issues watching any of those any time.

I honestly find it difficult to find another actor who has made three amazing action films in a row the way Cage did with those three.

Glad to see Con Air getting some traction haven't watched it in years but its a great film.

I'm terrible at naming favourite films so just let me know when the gangster section is up so I can pick Casino and I'll be done with it

Some but not enough to progress :(

People laugh at my obsession with it but it's the reason I got into the career I'm in and I watch it every birthday

No white text? That was his best film.

If you are talking purely about action films, there can't be too many to boast a trio of films of similar or greater quality over their career, never mind consecutively, can there?

No white text? That was his best film.
Didn't get it at all. Not funny and relatively annoying, for me.

Reading the posts regarding Tarantino, I take it no-one considers Pulp Fiction a comedy?

I really enjoyed your video games World Cup you did a while back but this is just too hard. I can’t get pool of movies to fit into this category. There are too many instances were I can’t decide if a move fits into this genre and then a million more I won’t even think of

With the video games one it was easy. Just look up like best 50 games of a console and go from there

For that reason ( not that my opinion matters) I’m out

That's always a mess with story type (drama, comedy, adventure, action, etc.) vs. setting (sci-fi, historical, western, contemporary, etc.) vs. context (crime, war, etc.), vs. whatever. I mean, Star Wars is a fantasy adventure in space, but probably goes into sci-fi for most people. And so on. :)

Genre is much better. Can't be bothered figuring out which movie came out when.

Ahh that's a shame. Was always going to be harder with movies. Don't worry, back to games next year... Or music.
Where are the goddamn results.
Monday. I'm really busy on weekends because I have two very active kids

I'm not sure what approach I prefer. Think I voted genre, but I can go with period as well. It doesn't really matter though; the same films will likely win out.
