Classic Stewart Lee fan. It's almost a cliche at this stage. Like Rick and Morty or Dr.Who fans. "You don't get it"
There are people don't "get" Dr Who?

If Lee Mack yanks your chain you do you mate. Your analysis of Stewart Lee is so far off piste though that you may as well refer to yourself as Schumacher from here on out.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure where that idea comes from. I suppose he constructs jokes in a more complex way than most comedians but the content isn't that difficult to grasp.
No, he isn't difficult to grasp, it's the response when people say he isn't that great is to insinuate that you're not getting it.

You're just proving my point. All I did was say I didn't rate him and you're defending him like he's I said your mum was a crap parent.

Parasocial love for entertainers is funny.

Don't get it is the stock response when people don't share your love or rating for something

My mum is a crap parent, what's that got to do with the price of fish? Just kidding love you mum.

I'm not interested in defending him, his stand up is annoying as shit at times, I admit! I just think you're doing him a disservice when he's one of few comics who fully commit to their profession.

Unless... You're one of the left wing champagne socialist glitterati set he keeps blabbering on about?

Didn't imply anything about your mum. I love your mum too
He does fully commit and is a successful comic but I don't rate him that highly, tis all.

You said you didn’t rate him and provided a reason that was totally ignorant of Stewart Lee’s act. You’ve basically watched the first series of Comedy Vehicle and decided you don’t like him. That is fine, but don’t pretend it’s because you know what you’re talking about

I turned off the fireplace after a few seconds. Far too crackly.

Maybe season 2 will be better.
There’s rumours they might be bringing back fireplace classic edition in the next season. Imo this would be positive addition to the fireplace universe.

I put the white text just in case she read the post :D

Who's your comedy mount Rushmore then? Let's have it.
What a question!

I used to like Def Comedy Jam back in the day when I was younger so a lot of people from that era and stable.

I grew up in the 80s/90s so people like Tommy Cooper, Lee Evans, Jack Dee, Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, Jethro etc. These were the VHS in my grandparents house so that's what I had access too. Also general UK comedy, Bottom, Young Ones, Blackadder etc.

As I got older and the internet became a thing, I sought out more US based comedy like Carlin, Hicks, Pryor, Chappelle, Chris Rock, Rodney Dangerfield etc.

Rushmore is so hard, is it four or five?

Swing and a miss, I've watched three separate routines of his. Again sorry I said bad things about your daddy.

It's 4. Hard to argue with any of them! Dee is a modern legend who has navigated what some might call cancellable material and lost none of his affect.

It was just boring, turned it off after 10 minutes (not that it matters since that means I am another viewer, according to the algorithm).

I don't mind some dodgy/off-colour/dark comedy but when the preamble to it is just; "Oh I shouldn't be saying this, they're going to be mad now, should I be woke now?" just feck off. Just say it.

Yeah, feels like there’s something missing. A lot of which has been mentioned here already.
I made it through the whole show so 1) it was pretty good or 2) I was waiting for the best part.
I’m leaning towards 2.

Normally really like Gervais and his humour but this was cringey and boring to a point. A lot of his old topics worked into it, just a different backstory just to be controversial and edgy. I just found it to be average, did laugh at some parts of it to be fair, had high hopes for this, was severely let down.

It was terrible. Don't think I found anything laugh out loud funny.

Say what you want about Gervais. But Acaster is a good comic and isn’t lazy in his observations or material he creates.

Also Lee is very good.

I didn't watch to the end but was it all a ruse?

Him railing on about being woke and so on, kinda felt like he was playing right wing bingo with easy laugh jokes and maybe at the end it's just him saying he was playing the character? Threw in a few lines that you'd expect designed to 'shock' but in general I just...didn't get it. He's not suddenly changed into a stereotypical middle aged man without me noticing has he?

Wasn't very funny at all tbh.

He’s been quite clearly heading that way (and been that way) for years.

I feel like on social media and on talk shows he’s usually on the other side though? Or maybe I’ve just not been paying attention.

Didn’t think he was just living his After Life character now

If I was him I'd wake up every morning and phone Stephen Merchant up to thank him for giving me a career. Every solitary thing he's done without him has been utterly abysmal.

The last worldwide sensation that was as funny as Ricky Gervais, before he came along, was the Spanish Flu.
Correct. Afterlife was rubbish.

I did like him in the office and he was brilliant at his hosting gigs at the Golden Globe. I don't find him to be great at stand-up comedy.

Also, the trio of him, Merchant and Carl Pilkington was brilliant.

Tried to watch it for sometime. Got bored and switched it off at the point he started off a train of multiple words of abuse. Seemed like random mumblings.
