Weird that he's being unveiled in a Fenerbahce kit live on TV. Yet we've still said nothing about it.

Good luck to him. For a period a few years back, Messi and Ronaldo aside, I think he was the best outright #9 in the game. It's a shame the way it's ended but that's football. His first season here was simply stunning.

Best of luck to him, would have expected him to go to a decent Italian club though.

Watched the press conference just to see if he sheds any light on things, not an official summary:
  • It's a different situation from three years ago (he was asked about the 'boy inside him') but he's happy to be in Turkey. Admires the passion of the fans.
  • Dirk Kuyt is a good friend and he spoke highly of the club and Turkish friends in Manchester, London and Holland were able to give him insight because they're fans too. Remembers playing against Fenerbahce as a Feyenoord player 12 years ago, remembers the atmosphere in the stadium being good.
  • Some rumours about him talking to other clubs earlier in the summer were indeed true, some were not. Fenerbahce gave him the best feeling.
  • Rivalry with Sneijder will only be on the pitch, he played for Ajax when van Persie was at Feyenoord. He is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the league against him and the other teams.
  • (Asked about his performances dipping after Ferguson left). Says he needs time and a pre-season to be in good condition, has talked to the trainer about getting as fit as possible over the next few weeks. Convinced he get back to his 2012 level and that he can play at the top for a long time yet.
  • Knew his time was possibly coming to an end at United, had got used the idea it might happen in advance. Says there are no hard feelings with the club and van Gaal, had a good day with the players before flying over and saw that the players appreciated his contribution which was nice for him. Also highly appreciated the work of Ed Woodward and wanted to thank him personally. He dealt with the transfer in a classy way and said he's a gentleman.
  • Says he could play Ajax in the CL play off and says the main aim for now is to get into the group stage, convinced the team will do well. Next national team fixtures are interesting against Iceland and Turkey, hopes the atmosphere will be nice. Aim at Fenerbahce is to win as many trophies as possible including in Europe.
  • Not scared of the pressure he may get from fans (questioner referred to Kezman and others that had to deal with that as a striker for the club), he is used to it and he puts pressure on himself. Fans are right to expect big performances from him and although he will miss chances sometimes he will keep trying to make the fans happy.
  • Had to make his mind up for himself but also asked the opinions of his 'team' and family.
  • Thinks it's important to see the country and learn the language, wants to be able to have a conversation in Turkish by next year.

I hope we get them in CL group stages, he'll get a fantastic welcome. Do not want them in the play-offs though!

Nice to hear he only has good things to say. Classy man is RVP.

Will always hold him in high regard.

Brilliant at his best, best outright striker in the world during those last 1,5 (if I'm not mistaken) + 1 season for Arsenal and then us, which culminated in our 20th title. Still feel it's a shame that we weren't able to take it all the way in Europe that season, as it felt like he was going to be the man that got us back to the very top.

Woody not only good at bringing players in it seems.

And still absolutely nothing from our end yet about this being done by the way, despite him not only being announced hours ago by Fenerbahce on Twitter and sites like the BBC but actually in the stadium wearing the number 11 shirt and doing a press conference. Utterly bizarre.

Going to miss him, he was a class act. Got a very hard time on here last season from our own fans which I found pathetic at times.

Agreed. I'm delighted he's moving on with everyone on good terms. Thanks for delivering Fergies last title Robin and best of luck for the future.

Still easily good enough for us, maybe we just needed him off the wage bill. I'm pretty sad about this, at the end of last season when he said "we will be back" it felt like he couldn't wait to get started with us for the new season. Not the words of someone who expected to leave.

Best of luck Robin.

Makes me sad this. Even though it's best for the club and for him. Whatever has happened, he's dealt with his exit in a truly classy way. All the best RVP. Will be keeping an eye out to see how he does and hope he wins trophies with Fenerbahce!

Bit bizarre how we haven't confirmed. Is our media department still wanking over what happened in the past few days?

Why have the club not said anything about this yet or thanked him?

Sad that we did not get him a few years earlier.

Feel sad he's gone, but it probably is for the best for all parties. He was a wonderful player to watch when on form (admittedy we haven't seen so much of that lately) but also a very likeable guy. Hope he does well in Turkey and looking forward to this thread getting bumped with clips whenever he scores another stunning goal.

I suppose he needs to be the main striker at this point as he heads into his last tournament and that along with his wages proved his undoing. Still loved having him here at united and hope he does well at Fene (as long as it's not against us).

Many thanks for his part in #20, was absolutely amazing that season, a striking performance we may not see from a united striker for some years to come.

Also his comments (from my pov) sort of explains why most united transfers (outgoing) are on the cheap, we give the players the best chance to continue on even if it costs us a few million. It's always been that way (with the exception of madrid who can do one) and I hope players continue leaving us on good terms.
