13th of October; the military observes a drone around an important gas plant, the drone is way too big to be a hobby drone. Police is investigating, loads of them on the scene. Dramatic. https://www.nrk.no/norge/forsvaret-meldte-fra-om-mulig-droneobservasjon-ved-gassanlegg-1.16138874There's been some talk in here about alleged spying in Norway, with some arrests made. Drones and the like. I don't think much is known about those cases yet, but one person arrested in Svalbard is Andrey Yakunin, son of Vladimir Yakunin who has pretty close ties to Putin (Wiki link). https://www.vg.no/nyheter/utenriks/...-er-en-del-av-putins-absolutt-naermeste-krets
What the cases involving drones mean is hard to say, because with the sanctions it's illegal no matter how benign the filming is so it can be anything. In this specific instance it's also a bit more unclear about the legalities with Svalbard having some laws about discrimination based on nationality that may or may not be relevant here. More on that: https://www.nrk.no/tromsogfinnmark/angriper-droneforbudet_-_-bryter-mot-svalbardtraktaten-1.16145691
Both articles in Norwegian, so you'll have to use a translator if you're interested in details.

In potentially more serious news, a researcher at the University of Tromsø has been arrested, suspected of being a spy. Allegedly he's Russian, while according to his papers he's Brazilian. Parallells to the show The Americans (which is great) have been made. He was working with stuff related to security and warfare. The GreyZone mentioned in the article is a research group, not the publication that has been talked about in here before. https://www.nrk.no/norge/pst-sikter-spionmistenkt-i-tromso-for-ulovlig-etterretning-1.16156368

Pretty juicy! Initially I think they just wanted to deport him, will be interesting to see if this changes anything.
That's the next low-grade Netflix Norwegian language spy thriller sorted then.

I feel like the Russians are waiting for the UKR to run out of ammunition. UKR forces need to move soon, or the winter will make it harder for them—both weather-wise and politically.
Yes but the US economy isn’t going to suffer as much as Europe’s, Germany’s entire industrial base is built on the gas they bring from Russia, even if they can get enough for heating homes, these higher prices have already shut down entire industries.Tweet

Admiral Makarov and Admiral Essen are the only surface ships currently deployed in the Black Sea capable of lauching cruise missiles, if they have been able to take out one of the ships it will indeed be a big blow to Russias ability to attack Ukraine from the south with missiles.
EwSolovyov has become my guilty pleasure.
Sad thing is, russia will posture again by retaliating against civilians

I thought this was a good interview. Nothing really quite new but key points:
- Milov thinks that Iran didn't willingly got involved but was pressured by Putin because Putin was helping Iran in several ways and threatened to cut that help.
- Russian security services tightly under Putin's control so a coup is unlikely and you'd be better off betting on the Russian public to rise up rather than the "elites".
- Sanctions are extremely hurtful to Russian complex industries but patience is needed.
- Nordstream damage was message to the West that their infrastructure can be hurt.
- Nuclear threats to be taken seriously but not exaggerate it because Putin knows it'd be the end of him and India/China/other countries would distance themselves even more from Russia.
- Forcing Ukraine to negotiate for peace would be celebrated with champagne in the Kremlin as they can regroup and strike again later.

I mean Twitter has a very convenient translate option when you click on the Tweet, or is it only me?If you're posting a Russian-language source, at least provide a translation.
