The sort of player we should've signed instead of Lindelof but at this point we've already got an abundance of centre backs.

He signed for Barcelona the summer we signed Bailly.
Lindelof deserves more time. Smalling has been at Utd for almost a decade and is still pretty useless. I think Lindelof will get better. He is good on the ball, he just needs to be coached and allowed time to develop. Mourinho has not given him a consistent run of games.

Mkhi for Sanchez
Shaw for Umtiti
Herrera for Kroos on the cards? Its like Fifa when you edit teams but your squad is too big so you send fringe players the other way for space.

Honestly..... sell Blind, Darmian, Shaw and Rojo for about 60m all in. Buy Sandro and Umtiti for 120m combined. You’ve now got a back 4 of Valencia, Bailly, Umtiti and Sandro. fecking mint. And back up of Lindelof, Smalling, Jones, Tofu and Young. Send Tuanzebe out on loan again.

For a net spend of 60m that’s pretty fantastic.

Love pronouncing his name. Um-teety-tooty-Um...

Er, whatever. Nothing to see here, so clear that he's using us for a new contract. There is literally not one reason he has to leave Barca for us unless its' for Mourinho's famed magnetic personality, as he is not even struggling for minutes in that team.

Leaking that Mourinho rang him, is just trying to strong arm Barca, as soon as they show a little leeway or Messi intervenes in wanting him to stay, he will sign the new contract, don't get your hopes high. If he was serious in leaving the phone call would have been kept secret, I would love to be proven wrong.

He will sign the new contract and will stay there, I feel the similar vibe of S.Ramos here.

You'd think eventually after years and years we would get good at spotting stories planted by agents to get player more pay ? Maybe in 10 more years ?

Edit: read up and everyone bar the odd dreamer knows what this is ! We ARE getting good at this !!

Will never get posts like this. Why would you want the club not to tell his agent to keep us informed in a situation like this? It's not as if Woodward is sitting outside his house in a trailer having dropped all work?

We have everything to gain and nothing to lose in a scenario like this. Best case, we get a superb player. Worst case, he stays but with higher wages at Barca. Who gives a feck? Its not us that'll pay it.

He had been their 2nd or 3rd best player they should pay him like a key player.
9m€ net though? That's 300k £ per week. That's more than anyone at Bayern, surely more than Pique ever got.
That's ridiculous. Obviously Barca cannot pay it, which seems to be Man United's strategy.
If you keep offering such wages that even Man City are saying 'no thanks' (Alexis), I don't think it's a great strategy. Even good players can be overpaid, and we all know Mourinho needs soldiers, not mercenaries, so that team work can make his dream work.

He'll get a new contract and stay at Barca.

For what it'd cost to replace him it's smarter for Barca to just give him a new contract.

He'd be the ideal partner for Bailly, but I don't think there's any chance this happens.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
him and Eric would be a hell of a partnership but we have so many CB's. Blind and Smalling need to move on if we sign a new CB. We'd then have Umtiti, Baille, Jones and Rojo.
So Umtiti and three injury prone defenders? What could possibly go wrong?

Smalling isn't going anywhere and I have no idea how people keep saying this. Jones' and to a lesser extent Rojo's injury issues means there isn't any chance in hell of us keeping them and selling Smalling, as it basically guarantees we have an injury crisis in the central defence every season. Smalling will be here either as a starter or as the only backup we can actually trust. The only possible exception would be if he for some reason pushed to be sold elsewhere.

Refuse to believe any week in week out starting XI player would leave Barcelona for us

So soldiers means who asks for less money and Mercenaries means players asking for big money?

Funny how many people bought city's PR stunt when each week we saw different numbers.

A bit off topic but it's a very strange situation when even after recent months, where we lose Jones and Rojo to injuries (for the hundred time) and Smalling is yet again here and playing regularly, people brand him as useless and how he needs to go.

If we do sell CBs to bring new ones(not counting Blind), Jones and Rojo should be first out of the door.

I agree, at least Smalling is always available for selection. The same can't be said for Jones, he should be the first out the door as we can't rely on him.

Just saying we probably aren't at pall involved and agent is just using our name as has been typical of the last 10 years

Jones definitely. Rojo isn't injury prone though, just had a long one.

I realize this last big injury pumped up his ''out injured'' days but he does have recurring problems. A fast check in his stats and you will see that last season's 41 games is the highest he has played in a season, and he is 27. It's nothing to slate him about since I don't know if it's injury related, but when you factor his actual ability he is not worth the fuss in my opinion.

At this moment the best defender in the world. Has been world class the moment he has joined us. That said if his wage demands are true, he would be in the same tier as Pique and Iniesta, he hasn't done anything to warrant such claims. Most cules will be happy with 6-7mil. Would happily hold the door for him to leave (his clause is dirt cheap so anyone will pay it), he'll be another mercenary in our history books.

Pretty sure those number are hogwash. No way we'd pay him that.

We all know the drill

- Player/Agent leaks the news about Utd to try get a new contract
- Papers run stories on the player about how close Utd is to getting him
- Then run some side stories and all kinds of imaginative stuff about how Utd is desperate to get him
- After a few weeks, the player gets the better deal he was looking for and is happy
- Papers run how Utd have been left red faced, embarrassed and snubbed by the player
- Papers run a story on how Utd transfer policy is in shambles after a failed bid for the player
(Throw in stories of how Utd is not able to sign bale, Sneijder or anyone)

Quick summary:

- He refused to answer questions about the negotiations and Manchester United.
- He doesn't talk about it to anyone else than his agent and Barcelona, not even his family.
- He loves his life in Catalunya.
- He wants to captain Barcelona.
- He speaks spanish and he is close to the spanish players.
