Serie A 90's draft

He's got Careca though. That Vialli-Crespo double-whammy ended any expectations I had of finding a way to navigate this. I decided there and then to put together a proper Serie A homage side, if not an attractive draft-winning one. The choice of Gomez I made then is still available and probably would still be knocking around in R14 but will pick him duly as he is a key piece of the jigsaw.

Think there are 5 outstanding keepers or so during that era and the rest the level is not that much apart to make a difference apart from ending the game in a draw and having a decision by the committee.

I'm more worried about the other two positions we have to fill apart from the keeper as the options are less likely to last in couple of turns.

Of course we will make a decision based on available options but considering some of the picks this round from the bottom, the GK is not the biggest concern for me right now.

Not as a straight comparison obviously. I love Sosa to bits, but I'm open to the idea of that specific trio they picked working better together. As said, depends on tactics and who they get elsewhere.

About right. I'm more a fan of his intangibles though: attitude, leadership...

Every now and then you have these players that you revisit for non-footballing reasons. When I heard about his battle with Lou Gehrig's disease I remember not being at all surprised at how he made a fist of it.

There's another already picked player I also rate highly for off-field (albeit football related) intangibles, but very relevant ones that underscore positives you sort of sussed while watching them.

I just found an absolutely epic celebration. Last day of the season with Genoa and Padova (?) fighting for survival. Genoa did the business but needed Padova to lose against Inter, but were leadign throughout the game. Opposite to our Agüero experience, the Genoa players left the pitch and were watching the game in the boot room while Inter couldn't hit a barn door...

That’s not how this draft works. The criteria is that the player should be at their peak while playing in the Serie A during the 90s. The match up discussions will judge the the player’s skill purely from this time period.

It should matter alot, is sometimes overlooked, and generally leads to some very heated arguments . There's all sorts of grey areas in between, but imagine if someone put Shevchenko in their all-time Premier League XI...

But it is not an all time XI, it's more like an all time top 200 players, at which point there is a case to be made for some players at least.

Yes. It's not they must have peaked at Serie A but should be assessed on Serie A/CI form alone.

You are right that EPL Verón is still a better pick than many a clogger. It's not a farce to pick him IMO but it does mean your games are going to focus too much on his comparatively poor form, some will try compensate for those who vote just thinking peak Verón anyway... The poll ends up being based on all the wrong things.

Having different criteria means different players get picked .... makes drafts more interesting, harder. Otherwise you get a pool of a few hundred players that get picked time and time again....
