100% start De Gea. Romero has done fine this Europa League campaign, particularly standing out in the home tie against Rostov. But if we're going to have to play Blind or Tuanzebe at CB then we need our best goalkeeper and De Gea is much better than Romero, particularly on crosses - an area Romero looked suspect against Anderlecht on Thursday.

The foundation of a great team should be trust between the manager and the players. The manager made a choice to use Romero in this competition and he has done his job without making any mistakes. It`s wrong to take that away from him when he has earned his spot. I don`t like the rotation between GKs but that is the choice the manager made and hopefully he will stick with it.

Here's a question for all of you that are saying that we should stick with Romero due to some perverse loyalty, if the semi final goes to penalties, who would you rather have between the sticks?
Actually Romero is fantastic at penalties. If I had a sub on the last minute I would bring him in for penalties anytime:D

It would be insane to go with Romero now. So many injuries there is no point weakening the team further and not playing one of the best players in the world for their position.

Wow, Rooney in with the lowest votes, maybe the caf has started being a bit more mature, I'm joking, I wouldn't go that far.

Jose did say before the second leg that Romero is his keeper for the second leg but he isn't the EL keeper which is a sign that he will switch to DDG in the semis

De Gea has already played in the Europa League though. He hasn't played every game as it is so no decision was made that Romero plays Europa League games. He just happens to have been selected at times.
Then it is simple and DDG should play lol

Yes, because the club's interests are more important than one player's happiness. De Gea is better than Romero - and very much so. Considering that it's a knock-out competition, which can be very tricky (especially with the amount of injuries), as we've seen in the quarters already; and the importance of this title win for us; we should start our best XI, and that means benching Romero.

DDG for me. Too important now to not play our best keeper. Romero has been good so far but it's not like he has some right to keep playing in Europa. It has suited us to play him up till now, that's why he has played.

Romero has got us this far and there is whispers of de gea leaving so i would keep romero in.

But having said that with our current defensive crisis it wouldn't surprise me if jose plays de gea.

Romero for me. A very good keeper and there is no indication as to why he'd let us down, in the later stages of this competition.

I don't see how there is an argument about this. Romero is a very good keeper, De Gea is a top 2/3 keeper in the world, and much better than Romero. Chances of us winning the competition are higher with De Gea on the team than with Romero. And winning Europa is the most important thing for this season.

It sucks for Romero, but he is our backup keeper. The role of the backup keeper is to be backup to the main keeper. So, he should understand that. And sure, Mourinho can throw him in a couple of EPL matches to compensate for that, if he wants so.

For me Romero should play this tournament out. He's played well and earned it. I don't think he hurts our chances to the point that DDG is a must move.

But aside from that, I'd have no issue with Jose starting DDG either. Champions league qualification comes before feelings.

Voted Romero. I'm not convinced he has much less quality than DDG, who hasn't really impressed me for quite some time.

Yeah Romero has been great against Zorya, St Etienne, Rostov, Anderlect etc. Really amazing sides...

De Gea is capable of saves Romero could only dream of, Celta Vigo would be delighted if they saw we weren't playing him.

De Gea, 100%.

We have to win Europa and therefore it would be insane to leave arguably the best keeper in the world on the bench, and even Romero will know this.

That's harsh on Romero.

He's been great, why would you change it?

You trusted him up until now. May as well see it through, doesn't deserve to be dropped

Romero - He's played well overall and has big game experience from the WC. Also strong on pens.

I like Romero's distribution and although DDG is a superior shotstopper and better in general, I wouldn't be too bothered with either choice. As harsh as it would be, if we are to win the cup, Romero can be proud of his contribution even if he ends up not playing.

DDG - the Europa League is now first priority. It's cruel but it's the right thing to do

They've made it further than all those sides.

Romero has dodgy moments every time he plays but we play him against weaker opposition so it isn't shown up that often and never matters in the end. We have to win this competition, it's insane to not play one of the best players in the world. If we decided not to play Pogba and Baily for the remainder of the EL to rest them for the PL everyone would think we were mad.

Hmm, De Gea has a slightly better record in penalties (11/40 or 27.5%) than Romero (9/33 or 27.27%). Neither of them is hardly a penalty specialist, in fact, on the last three Copa America, Argentina always lost in penalties (2 finals against Chile and one semi against Uruguay) with Romero being their keeper in all those three matches.

I would definitely trust much more De Gea be it on the match, or in pens. And this competition will define this year if it was another wasted year, or a successful one so it would be absolutely ludicrous to not start our best keeper (best player too now that Ibra is injured) on the competition it matters most. Romero has already played more than he was supposed to, and has done right, but time to be serious about this. We need to maximize our chances of winning Europa, otherwise next season we won't be in UCL, we will probably struggle in transfer market (to some degree) and we will be playing again Thursday-Sunday which harms our chances for the league. And having one of the top 2 or 3 best keepers in the world in the bench is not maximizing our chances. It is being not serious about the main competition we are on.

Romero has done well but he is a very average keeper, would struggle to be number one at most premier league sides, people have got massively carried away by a handful of good games. His career has shown he is nowhere near DDG's level, being a backup suits him.

Not sure if Jose will drop Romero for the next round but I can't see DDG not starting in the final if we get there.

Just let Romero play in the league games we have left and play DDG in the EL semis (and the final hopefully).

Because life and football isn't about sentimentality.

De Gea is the best keeper in the country and this our most important game of the season.

We trusted him in the lower rounds for a reason. But this is the business end.

I think it was no coincidence when Jose mentioned that we have no Europa league keeper. He is definitely thinking of bringing him in.

Well said, my sentiments exactly.

Imagine starting de Gea and he drops a clanger which knocks you out...

Yup, Romero has earned the chance to play for a place in the final. If he makes a mistake that costs us, so be it... If I didn't think he was good enough to play in the latter stages of this competition, I don't think he should have played in the earlier rounds.

If Jose has man managed this right then hopefully he would have talked to Romero and the squad about how he was going to approach team selection when top 4 was becoming increasingly uncertain. I know and understand the argument about selecting your number 1 but the players aren't robots, and there should be a degree of fairness involved. As I said already, you don't get to play a SF if you don't win the earlier rounds, and Romero has got us this far.....
