On one hand maybe we should give it to DDG, as he's of course our nr. 1 and one of the best keepers in the world which makes it logical.

On the other hand it would be harsh to Romero who has been really good generally and DDG hasn't been in the greatest form lately.

Do what Sir Alex did in the FA Cup final against Millwall. Play them both, one in each half. :)

I really don't get rotating goalies for cup-competitions anyway. It seems to be some modern thing. But it's not like DDG needs any rest and goalies are usually better when they just play every game. It shouldnt be unfair to Romero. He should've been told when he signed and he should know that with DDG being here every game he plays is a bonus for him.

Furthermore if we want to keep DDG, he should be able to win a major trophy again for the first time in years. Him sitting on the bench while winning the thing? Playing every game for RM sounds a lot better then. There is not place for sentiment with such a big club as Man UTD. We own Romero nothing.

Well it really sucks being a backup GK and throwing them a bone in cup competition can keep them involved and focused so they will not be completely rusty for when the #1 keeper gets hurt.

I'm sure we've won a couple of trophies over the last 12 Months.

De Gea is still a Utd player until the end of the season at least. He is in the top 3 best goalies in the world. Romero isnt even in the top 10, so of course De Gea should start.

I understand that and yes it would suck if we lose because of Romero.

But Mourinho got himself into this situation and idk if it is a good idea to just drop Romero.
What situation? Mourinho is the manager and changes (Ibra & Pogba aside) players all the while. Didnt he say DeGea wasnt the league goalie, and Romero the cup goalie in the week prior to the Anderlecht game when the press asked him that question? He just picks the side as he sees fit

It's not like we are going to win or lose the EL due to having the wrong goal keeper. As we saw today against Anderlecht, if we don't put away chances, or if our midfield gets run over and leaves our defense exposed, we will get knocked out or lose the final.

The real question is who should our midfielders and attackers be. Please, no Rooney.
It could be though. If we are 1-0 up with 10 mins to go and the goalie fecks up all of a sudden the opposition are on the front foot and we are deflated. As you mentioned we struggle to put away chances and we may have changed the personnel to defend at that stage so were even less likely to score. All of a sudden a 1-0 win could turn into a 2-1 loss

Play DDG in-game but I think Romero is better on penalties so maybe Mourinho should pull a LVG if we are going to penalties :)

With the amount of defenders we have out, I think it's imperative that we start DDG.

If we start Romero behind 4 full backs, I think we're fecked. Romero has done well but surely DDG is a necessity at this point?

We're pretty desperate to win this competition now and need all the best players who are available. Nothing else is of any concern.

I don't think De Gea's been a patch recently on where he was even a year ago. Think his head's been turned.

I'd go with Romero.

This. Romero has earned his chance while DDG is the better keeper, but I feel like DDG has his head elsewhere right now. The way I see it, Romero deserves, and has, to start.

It's been said earlier in the thread but if we drop Romero and start De Gea in Europe now, he will let in a howler.

It's proven, scientific footballing fact that this will happen in such a situation.

De Gea isn't making such a big a difference lately, there's no reason to take Romero out of the starting team.

DDG...We will play in Spain..no doubt in my mind, as Spanish no. 1, Goal Keeper, he will play with all of his might...

And his past experience playing in the La Liga will also help...If we don't play him, he will go, and we will be sorry...

No offence for Romero, but with current defensive lines situation, unless he comes at beast a la Navas, he will drown in the stress-full zone...Remember, most of EL game, there's Bally who ease Romero task. If there's no Bally, need to change the Goalie...

Just my 2 cents...

I agree with this. He's been below par. We're likely to see him leave. Romero scares the hell out of me, but what the hell, let's show a bit of loyalty and stick with the guy.

I voted Romero out of sentimental reasons but seeing all our injuries De Gea should play. We have to field our best team.

Think DDG should play one and Romero other leg, with Romero playing the final if we qualify for it.

If we win this European title with De Gea on the bench, he might have an excuse to leave. I guess it all depends on how confident is Mourinho of convincing him to stay.

Are you seriously suggesting if DDG leaves it's because we didn't play him in a EL game?

Dave wants to leave anyway,

I say stick with Romero - he's mad and unpredictable and that adds its own layer of excitement to proceedings.

Play De Gea. He's our best keeper and it's vital we win this tournament.

If we were guarnteed top four I'd play Romero but its looking increasingly likely we will miss out so we must win EL. Its simple -play De Gea.

I'm not yet convinced that De Gea wants to leave... even bloody Balague doesn't think he wants to.

If however, we embarrass him by filling the Spanish press with the news that "Spain's number 1 has been dropped for United's biggest game left in the season" then Real Madrid can "rescue him" and we'll lose one of the 3 best keepers in the world.

If we'd played he kids in the group stages, we wouldn't still be playing them now. The same applies with the keeper. It's harsh but it's not a shock to him that he's second choice, surely?

Give DDG the Europa League and give Romero the 4 remaining PL fixtures. If DDG is going it will have the added bonus of Romero auditioning for the number 1 jersey against top opposition. And Arsenal.

De Gea hasn't been at his best this season but he's comfortably a better keeper than Romero....there's a major error waiting to happen with him...

cast your mind back to May 1990 when Jim Leighton was dropped for Les Sealey in the replay (after a poor game albeit)

time for the tough decisions to be made and I hope Mourinho gets it right
