We'll never see another like him. There was always an aura of something special surrounding him, he wasn't just the best manager ever but an incredible person. Shocking as this is, I'm sure in the next few days I will grow more excited as to the possibility of a new manager and a new direction for the club.

It is really difficult to describe Fergie's effect on a humble fan. He is the great comforter, the living legend who is there to make sure everything is okay. The heartbreaks and lows of football mean nothing because we had Sir Alex Ferguson there. He was the light at the end of a tunnel, and it is ridiculous to say this because most of the time there was no tunnel to go through. Sir Alex is the dream manager, he is the person you try to emulate in football manager, he is the person who is the center attention, and he was all ours for a short while. Thank you sir Alex.
30 to 40 years from now, we'll be like some current posters on here who talk about how Sir Matt was. I know it hasn't sunk it yet, and it may never, but think how blessed we were to witness and admire a legend.
i am speechless and gutted. Thank you for all the memories from a man that gave us , the Manchester United fans, something to be proud of for the rest of our lives.

First my cat gets hit by a car and dies. Then the MD of Sky (who I know quite well) dies and his family horribly injured and now SAF retires... It's actually been one of the worst weeks of my life and there's still a few days to go... what else can go wrong?

The only manager I have ever known at United. The man I respect most in Football. I'm still only in my 20's so I can't say he will be the best manager I will ever see at United but if there is going to be another, he will have to be pretty fecking good.

What I'll remember the most is the fist pump after every triumph. All the compliments given out now aren't enough to convey our gratitude to the difference that he has made to every United fan. Football will never be the same for me again
Forget Giggs, Ronaldo or Messi, the one person in football that I'll find impossible to describe to my kids is Sir Alex. 13 title in 20 years. Ridiculous. That's far beyond what any manager has achieved and it could easily be a record that stays there for the rest of this century but what's even more incredible is that record is better than most clubs in a 20 year period.

Amazing really, didn't see it coming. Credit to him though calling time on his career now. He really has nothing else to accomplish. He's won 13 Premier league titles, 5 FA Cups and 2 European Cups. He's seen off the dominance of Liverpool, seen of the challenge of Arsenal and conquered Roman's Chelsea. Finally he put Manchester City back in their place this season. He's left the club in a very strong position and with the right man in charge the club will continue to be strong.

Been one constant in my life since I was a kid. This is really really sad, but at least he's getting some time to relax and hopefully he'll enjoy his retirement.

He became manager when I was three months old. It was always a given that Alex Ferguson is the manager of Manchester United. I never even imagined anyone else there, not seriously. When I really started following United his position was secure and I never took any rumours of his departure or dismissal seriously.
Even in 2002 I somehow never really came to terms with the idea that he was going to leave. We had half a season ahead of us and as it went on it became increasingly clear that Fergie was going to change his mind and he did, never leaving me time to dwell on the concept of another manager at the helm.
It may sound RAWKish but I feel like someone, a long-time friend just died. It's silly of course as he's alive and well, thankfully, but still... next season "Manchester United manager" will be someone who is NOT Alex Ferguson. How weird is that? I criticized him a lot because as most football fans I'm convinced that I know everything better than anyone when it comes to the game but I never really thought that anyone could do a better job.
Whatever may come, whatever lies ahead, this is a very sad day. I wish I could be at Old Trafford for the Swansea game.
