I bring you, Brown Sugar by the Rolling Stones…

Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in the market down in New Orleans
Skydog slaver know he's doin' all right
Hear him whip the women just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
Drums beatin' cold, English blood runs hot
Lady of the house wonderin' when it's gonna stop
House boy knows that he's doin' all right
You should have heard him just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good?
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
Brown Sugar, how come you dance so good?
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I bet your mama was a tent show queen
And all her boyfriends were sweet 16
I'm no school boy but I know what I like
You should have heard them just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo!
How come you, how come you dance so good
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo!
Just like a, just like a black girl should
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo!

Fecking hell. I always thought it was about heroin :(

I vaguely remember a campaign a couple of years ago for them to drop it from their setlist. I hadn’t really looked them up until then, but they’re definitely pretty shocking. Heavy subject matter for such an upbeat song.

This nonce's anthem will take some beating...

Lyrics...

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth, Oh,
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, Oh,
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl
So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here
Before I have the time
To change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, Oh,
Young girl
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Get along, girl,
You're much too young, girl
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl

When I first met you, baby
Oohwww you were just sweet sixteen
When I first met you, baby
Oooohw you were just sweet sixteen
You just left your home then, baby
The sweetest thing I'd ever seen
But you wouldn't do nothing, baby
You wouldn't do anything I, I asked to
You wouldn't do nothing for me, baby
You wouldn't do anything I asked to
You know you ran away from your home, baby
And now you wanna run away from old B. too

Three days ago.
The Rolling Stones drop their song Brown Sugar from setlists amid controversy over its lyrics about slavery

The band say Brown Sugar - their second most played song on tour - is about the "horrors of slavery" despite dropping it as their latest tour kicks off in the US this week.

GnR have a some homophobic music don't they?

Edit: Here it is, One is a Million from what used to the biggest band in America.

One, two, one, two, three, four
Guess I needed some time to get away
I needed some peace of mind
Some peace of mind that'll stay
So I thumbed it down to sixth in L.A.
Maybe a Greyhound could be my way
Police and niggers, that's right
Get outta my way
Don't need to buy none of your
Gold chains today
Now don't need no bracelets
Clamped in front of my back
Just need my ticket, 'til then
Won't you cut me some slack
You're one in a million
Yeah that's what you are
You're one in a million babe
You're a shooting star
Maybe some day we'll see you
Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much to high
Much too high
Much too high
Much too high
Immigrants and faggots
They make no sense to me
They come to our country
And think they'll do as they please
Like start some mini-Iran
Or spread some fecking disease
And they talk so many goddamn ways
It's all Greek to me
Well some say I'm lazy
And others say that's just me
Some say I'm crazy
I guess I'll always be
But it's been such a long time
Since I knew right from wrong
It's all the means to and end and
I keep it moving along
Hey, hey, hey, yeah
You're one in a million
You're a shooting star
You're one in a million babe
You know that you are
Maybe someday we'll see you
Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much too high
Much too high
Much too high
Much too high
Radicals and racists
Don't point your finger at me
I'm a small town white boy
Just tryin' to make ends meet
Don't need your religion
Don't watch that much TV
Just makin' my livin' baby
Well that's enough for me
You're one in a million
Yeah that's what you are
You're one in a million babe
You're a shooting star
Maybe some day we'll see you
Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much too high
Much too high yeah, yeah, yeah
Much too high
Much too high
Much too high yeah, yeah, yeah
Much too high
Much too high
Much too high
Much too high

Much too high

Was racism and homophobia waived when used in art or something ? Those are truly shocking lyrics.

Not at all. They even had a preemptive apology of sorts on the album cover.

"This song is very simple and extremely generic or generalized, my apologies to those who may take offense."

Slash also had objections to the song.

It was very controversial at the time so I don't think it's really fits the thread, to be honest.

There’s quite a few from led zeppelin I noticed recently that are basically him singing about being a peado. Bragging about young girls, sixteen year olds etc, it’s wild.

To be fair, up until maybe the 80s basically every second song was some dude singing about 16 year olds.

Not the only dodgy Rolling Stones song.

Sample lyrics from Stray Cat Blues, for example:

I hear the click-clack of your feet on the stairs
I know you're no scare-eyed honey.
There'll be a feast if you just come upstairs
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime
I can see that you're fifteen years old
No I don't want your I.D.
And I can see that you're so far from home
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime

Also the Frank Loesser song Baby It's Cold Outside is rapey as feck.

Took me a while to realize that Tool's Stinkfist is actually about anal fisting. But then that's pretty much what the title says.

The model in this video is suing Robin for sexual harassment. She said he fondled her naked breast without her permission.

Any specific ones?

Kurt Cobain did once say that while he liked artists like Zepplin and Aerosmith growing up he did eventually realize that a lot of their music about dick waving about erm dick waving.

Would have thought better from GnR considering the lyrics to Civil War.

Took me a while to realize that Tool's Stinkfist is actually about anal fisting. But then that's pretty much what the title says.
Yeah but it’s Maynard so he gets a pass. For literally anything

Probably the most infamous example is this classic:

(I really can’t stay) But, baby, it’s cold outside
(I’ve got to go away) But, baby, it’s cold outside
(This evening has been) Been hoping that you’d drop in
(So very nice) I’ll hold your hands they’re just like ice

(My mother will start to worry) Beautiful, what’s your hurry
(My father will be pacing the floor) Listen to the fireplace roar
(So really I’d better scurry) Beautiful, please don’t hurry
(Well, maybe just half a drink more) Put some records on while I pour

(The neighbors might think) Baby, it’s bad out there
(Say what’s in this drink) No cabs to be had out there
(I seem to be in) Your eyes are like starlight now
(Some crazy spell) I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell

(I ought to say no, no, no, sir) Mind if I move in closer
(At least I’m gonna say that I tried) What’s the sense of hurting my pride
(I really can’t stay) Baby, don’t hold out
[Both] Oh, but it’s cold outside

(I simply must go) Baby, it’s cold outside
(The answer is no) Baby, it’s cold outside
(The welcome has been) How lucky that you dropped in
(So nice and warm) Look out the window at that storm….

Never paid much attention to "Don't like Mondays" but apparently it was about a school shooting and the reason the girl gave was she didn't like Mondays.

That theory on It's Cold Outside has been debunked as far as I recall.

'Under my thumb' also by the Rolling Stones is pretty grim too. Seems to be an homage to coercive control.

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
And ain't it the truth babe?
Under my thumb
It's a squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It's down to me
Yes it is
The way she does just what she's told down to me
The change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright
Under my thumb
Is a Siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hm, pet in the world
It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright
Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else
It's down to me, oh, that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright
Say it's all
Say it's all
Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe

It was a different era for sure, these are the lyrics for Angel of Death by Slayer

Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The way that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in like cattle, you run
Stripped of your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood
Destroying without mercy
To benefit the Aryan race
Surgery with no anesthesia
Feel the knife pierce you intensely
Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down, screaming out to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher
Angel of Death
Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
How long can you last in this frozen water burial?
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time 'til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve the holocaust
Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end of your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain reach out for you
His face of death staring down, your blood's running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of the mutant he's creating
Pathetic harmless victims left to die
Rancid Angel of Death flying free
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher
Angel of Death
Angel of Death

Both songs were hugely controversial at the time though as well as Guns n Roses’s I used to Lover her but I had to Kill her

I used to love her but I had to kill her
I used to love her, oh yeah but I had to kill her
I had to put her six feet under
And I can still hear her complain
I used to love her, oh yeah but I had to kill her
I used to love her, ooh yeah but I had to kill her
I knew I'll miss her so I had to keep her
She's buried right in my back yard
Oh yeah, ooh yeah, whoa oh yeah
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, ooh yeah but I had to kill her
She bitched so much, she drove me nuts
And now I'm happier this way
Whoa oh yeah
(Take it for what it is)
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, ooh yeah but I had to kill her
I had to put her six, ooh, feet under
And I can still hear her complain

I can see that you're fifteen years old
No I don't want your ID
You look so restless and you're so far from home
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime

Rolling Stones - stray cat blues

You have to question the era of those songs because the lyrics are wild and it concerns a relatively large amount of artists.
