An alleged gang rape shocks Italy, and provides fodder for an ascendant far right

Italy has been shaken by the alleged gang rape of a 13-year-old girl in front of her boyfriend in a public park in the Sicilian city of Catania, the latest in a string of shocking sexual attacks in the country.

The case is reminiscent of two alleged gang rapes last summer. A group of seven men and teenage boys between the ages of 15 and 18 are currently on trial for the alleged rape of a 19-year-old girl in Palermo in August.

Last month’s alleged gang rape in Catania has become not only a symbol of violence against women in the country, but a cause célèbre for Italy’s far-right government. The seven suspected perpetrators were all Egyptian migrants, three of them under the age of 18, Catania police confirmed to CNN.

Somali families in St. Louis Park push to let children opt out of reading LGBTQ+ books

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. — A letter sent on behalf of Muslim families in St. Louis Park threatens legal action unless parents are notified and allow their children to opt out of classroom discussions about sexuality and LGBTQ+ topics.

The families are described as devout Muslims who emigrated from Somalia over the past two decades. Their children, enrolled at Aquila Elementary School and Susan Lindgren Elementary School, were introduced to LGBTQ+ characters in picture books, which caused "significant confusion and distress," the letter states.

This could go in any one of a number of threads. Mad story. The Ireland ladies basketball team had to play Israel last week. They weren’t keen, especially after the Israeli team tweeted a photo of some IDF soldiers visiting the team. A few Ireland players pulled out and the team was threatened with being banned from competing if they didn’t fulfill the fixture. In the latest twist, Meta just informed them that their Insta account has been “permanently deleted”. WTF?

It seem to be a members club as thats the only legal way to discriminate against people.
We should have a right to our own space – hence the idea to set up the bar. It will be for biological females only and this is why we’re making it a members-only club so we can legally restrict it to women.”

When really the reality is trans people are just like everyone else. They want a bar which serves cheap drinks and plays George Michael tunes.

It could have gone in more than one thread, but I say it's very appropriate here because of the context behind that defection. Hopefully that family will see the true meaning of FAFO for as long as it takes as our government better not let them back in.

Pretty much.:rolleyes::lol::devil: It is also a reason why it would be better for the Canadian government to leave them there instead of responding to their pleas. After all, most Canadians who discussed on the topic since outright said they don't want them back.

We have previously taken two separate judicial reviews on the definition of “woman” in the Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018 and the accompanying Statutory Guidance, winning the first and losing the second. This legislation relies on definitions set out in the Equality Act 2010 and the judicial reviews have served to show that a definition of "sex" that is inclusive of a person's "acquired gender" on a Gender Recognition Certificate leaves the Equality Act opaque and unworkable for many women. There needs to be clarity that sex is a biological term and while the UK Government recognises this, it is yet to take any remedial action in response to the second judicial review ruling. We have strong grounds to appeal the decision by the Court of Session and have been granted permission for the case to be heard by the UK Supreme Court.

So it seems it's around the definitions on "woman" on Scottish legislation and how that links back to the equalities act of 2010, not a group trying to remove the gender recognition act as is claimed.

There is always much more nuance (both sides) but people (on both sides) just make up shit.

It's actions like this that gives (still unwarranted) credence to the whole "Israel control the media" shit. It's just insane, like, just let people have freedom to conscientiously object ffs, you're feeding AS tropes and giving these people fuel.
