Yeah, been an incredibly slow end to a pretty fast draft(I think, felt like it at least)

I've concluded that it is possible to sport a WM with these boys. Possible, I says - not necessarily desirable. Depends on the opponent.

The best WM variation does not include Beckham, though - and that's sort of a deal breaker. I reckon the wisest and safest option here is to use the tried, tested and easily marketable right side combo of Becks n' Gaz.

On a general note, I think a WM must look something like this in terms of modern roles/functions:

Beckham could play as the right sided CM/AM but that's about it. I suspect he'll be hard-sell in a more central role anyway. If I do go for the WM I'll probably use Neeskens in said role, Nedved alongside him - and a DM combo of Junior and Mascherano. Three man line at the back: Buchwald, Augenthaler and Neville. Three man line up front: The kid, Henry, Rocheteau.

No man is positively out of position in that set-up.

I bloody hate you, I swear. Worst guy ever
In fairness Viva, you left yourself completely exposed there and I doubt a single manager out there wouldn't have guessed your intentions to sneakily get Crespo at 13th. Serves you right for taking Edwin, I've wanted to get him in goal for some time now. Can't have your cake and eat it and all that ;)

I'm fecking clueless. Stupid love to VDS what an horrific decision
It was indeed a horrendous decision. Theon was yet to pick a striker in the last round. You had first dibs and gave him a chance to get the top two remaining instead. Shocker.

I doubt it'd matter if he was just labeled "Silva" and was said to be a goalkeeper. He really makes that outfit his own by pulling the shorts up to his belly button too.

I really like how even the picks of this draft has been. Even in the last two rounds we've seen the likes of Cantona, Crespo, Abidal, Donadoni and Sagnol. I can see a 12th-13th pick go straight in to the starting eleven and displacing an earlier pick in many cases here, just depends on the desired system.

I'm bored so I'll latch on to Pat's post to start a "let's all laugh at Viva" sub-thread.

Exhibit 1) A historic poster published by El Gráfico which still trades on ebay-style sites. It announces the arrival of the Prince heir to Enzo Francescoli: Hernán Crespo, the latest River youth product.

Exhibit 2) This is the actual goal that led to Enzo picking up the new Prince. Francescoli had scored a similar goal for River ten years earlier and the way Crespo went about it was so similar, so reminiscent of Enzo, that the commentator on the video himself says "Enzo" when he is making contact, assuming it HAD to be him.

Long story short (not really as it turned out)

Enzo was Crespo's childhood idol. He had won league and South American titles for them when he was about ten and, still aged 20 (when this happened), he still had the poster of that Enzo bicycle kick stuck on his wall. He actually keeps it to this day (in fact, as far as Crespo is concerned Francescoli > Maradona, and he is Argentinian!).

Imagine what it must have been like to come through at River, join the first team, and suddenly find Francescoli coming back to play for a couple of seasons before retiring. He was a massive influence to a very young side that provided Argentina's backbone for an entire generation (look them up, can't name names). The really curious thing was that was the same season that Hansen infamously said "you can't win anything with kids". Well, Enzo lifted their level and inspired a bunch of 20 year-olds to win the Copa Libertadores in 1996.

This goal is in the first knockout round. Away leg River had played poorly and were lucky to be 2-0 down when Crespo came on with a few minutes to go and shortened the distance, off an Enzo assist. Back in the changing room Enzo tells them: "Lads, we got lucky out there, but it's all in our hands now and if we overcome this, I think we will go on to win the whole thing". Home leg was the trial of fire for them, their first big test of character. First goal Crespo assisted by Enzo, second goal Enzo, this was the third and as Crespo picks himself up he thinks how it was that goal of his dreams, and it's Enzo lifting him up...

That was the point of no return, 5-2 scoreline, 6-4 on aggregate and they never lost again until the Final first leg (1-0 also away) but by then they were never not going to turn that around. Crespo scored both goals.

Wonderful understanding they had, so compatible, so likeable, such a great story... yet Viva gets giddy and throws it all away to get VDS. :nono:
