Gaming The RedCafe General/Random Gaming Chat Thread

I’m changing my gaming habits. I find myself dropping games far too often and I think it’s because the subscription services create a sense of wanting to play every game of “value” because you’re paying for it. So I end up starting a lot of games despite them not being for me or just being merely good. So I’m pivoting to playing stuff that’s critically very well received and / or something that’s clearly my jam. No need for filler content.
'Amol try not to play Cyberpunk for a whole week challenge'.

Indiana Jones:

This huge snake is really eating me alive. Only thrusting my own god damn spear at it works.

I played about an hour of High On Life and that may have established it as my most hated game of all time. Makes me hate Rick and Morty as well.

I’m replaying System Shock 2 on Steam. I initially played it when I borrowed a friends copy just after it came out and he’d completed it back in 2000. While the graphics have aged as feck, the sound design, general mechanics and ambience of the game still holds up amazingly well. I know there’s third party mods that improve the textures though so I’ll look into that.

I wish someone would remake it in Unreal Engine 5 with VR gameplay akin to Half-Life: Alyx. I can imagine the SHODAN reveal scene having the potential to be pretty special in VR.

It heavily rotates with Deus Ex, Oot and Turrican 2 as my favourite game of all time.

SS1 got a decent remake, but I think SS2 would benefit more from a labour of love like Black Mesa. A full on VR version would be ridiculously awesome though.

Played it over a decade ago based on your recommendation and indeed it was a fantastic game, albeit I rate Deus Ex quite a bit higher.

Yeah mate, DX is superior. But I love the setting, story and that part of SS2 so much too, so although DX is still my favourite of all time SS2 runs it close based on memories more than anything.

If you haven't tried it, I've played the first couple of hours of the remake of 1 it's very decent so far. I really need to go back to it, I keep forgetting and endless new games keep taking my attention. Though if it's true to the original, be prepared to be lost more often than not

Not really my genre but the attention to detail in Indiana Jones was brilliant. Also had about the right length. Didn't pursue many of the side quests.

8.5/10 from here.

Yeah seems like a decent game but the previews but were much more positive and created higher expectation.

Just finished SS2 on Normal. Centred on being a hack build then branching out into a standard weapon build with good strength and endurance, then levelling up heavy weapons just to use the assault rifle and grenade launcher to get through the latter stages.

Game feels punishing in the first two decks of the game if you’re not careful with your nanites. I forgot how much like Thief the game is as it’s built on the same engine. Hybrids have the exact same movement animations as guards in Thief, and I was surprised to learn that the light/dark mechanic from Thief is employed in this game too so you can hide in dark areas and evade enemies.

It sorely needs a remake with modern graphics and in dream world, in VR. It would be amazing gameplay and nightmare fuel all at the same time, when hybrids are charging you or a cyborg midwife comes round the corner or SHODAN is taunting you with that creepy distorted voice in 7.1 surround sound

Odd how in this era of remasters and remake Deus Ex doesn't get touched. They could touch up the graphics, make QoL changes, make Jensen's voice more gravelly.

It is owned by Embracer. They were working on a new game for two years, but cancelled that and other games due to their whole business model relying on Saudi money, which never came about. They did the same with timesplitters.

I think the game is not very famous, outside of old(er) PC players. Lots of people who play regularly have not even heard about the game, despite that everyone I know who has played it has it near the top of their list. One of the very few games I would give a perfect score.

Do you think there might ever be a chance of a remaster? I never thought I'd play classic tomb raider or Legacy of Kain on modern consoles but in the last year we have both.

People can get very tetchy with remakes and remasters but they are a nice way to experience a gaming legacy that someone might have missed. I kind of feel Deus Ex is one of those games that should be more available.

Maybe if Embracer can find someone to fund them like they did with Tomb Raider and Amazon or sell the IP to another publisher. They scooped up a lot of good IPs in the hope of getting investment. Plus when they announced that they are splitting into three different companies, Deux Ex wasn’t mentioned in the list of games.

Snipes taken at the Dice awards at Musk and Trump. He’s too loud and annoying usually but nicely done Greg Miller.

Avowed seems to be good but not great, and a poor story by Obsidian standards. https://www.metacritic.com/game/avowed/

Shame, I thought this might be really good, I loved the Pillars of Eternity games. Will still play it eventually.
I am playing it and having great fun so far. As a pillars veteran and Eora connoisseur it's great to be back in this world and see it from a different angle (quite literally and also metaphorically). It has clear limitations, like super static settlements and little interactable items within the world, but I'm having a blast in combat and exploring every nook and cranny.

90s and early 2000s PC gaming was a small circle of people compared to the console gaming scene of PS1, N64 and Xbox.

Although in the past decade I feel like people have drifted over to PC gaming (hence that PC master race meme) because of stuff like Steam and GOG making those games available on an accessible platform, the console manufacturers overcharging for new consoles and games, the fact devs have now focused on developing games with PC in mind (big turning point was when Japanese devs started doing that) and word of mouth spreading through the internet.

“You like Bioshock? You like Dead Space? You like Prey? Then go try System Shock on Steam for a small price. This is the game that inspired them all”

That’s why we’re getting a System Shock 1 Remake and a System Shock 2 remaster now, and maybe you’ll get a Deus Ex remaster/remake or a Thief remaster/remake (a real one and not that average reboot from years ago).

Monster Hunter Wilds apparently a bit easy according to reviewers. Wish they would stop making triple A games easier. Such a lame development.

It’s a 90 on meta critic but a lot of the major outlets think it is a bit flawed.

Since souls games entered the picture, games have got harder if anything.

I suppose the endless Souls clones are sort of exempt, but most games are very forgiving. You can of course crank up difficulty in most, but that's rarely implemmented well.

Im sure capcom will add plenty of stuff though and Im definitely getting it day 1.

Another studio gone. Enjoyed the middle earth games and the nemesis system.

My EA account just got perma banned. I was playing some Apex Legends and a person on my team became really toxic towards me on voice chat and began calling me the N word. So I typed "N word too?" and reported him. I got an email the day after saying they couldn't act on the report because they don't save voice chat data. Second after I get another email saying I've been perma banned for the sentence "N word too?".

I've obviously disputed the ban but I'm actually so annoyed with that ban.

And it's not just Apex Legends it's my EA account so they've removed games from my library as well.

I haven't spend much money in Apex Legends but I've spend some. Also had/have the Bangalore heirloom.

Deserved.

The fact that voice chat data isn’t saved by a company of EA’s size in this day and age seems fecked up. Could you have recorded it?

I avoid any online game that has emphasis on eSports like the plague. It attracts a bunch of backward tryhards on top of edgelord teenagers like you seem to have encountered.

Huge discount on Robocop Rogue City. Anyone tried it?
I've played about 20mins of it. I don't really have any thoughts that would be helpful, other than it felt like it could be ok but only for Robocop fans. Kind of reminded me of that Die Hard game Nakatomi Plaza that was budget, but faithful.

I am going to go back to it though. I also bought the Terminator one which I imagine is very similar.
