ROUND ONE: EASTERN EUROPEAN PLAYERS AND THE BALLON D'OR
To qualify for this round, a player must have received a vote in the Ballon D'Or and must be from Eastern Europe. This area is defined as anything east of the Italian, Austrian, German and Finnish borders as set out in the map above. This also includes Turkey given its inclusion in UEFA.
If your pick is blocked, you will then be landlocked to that country's players and you must choose another player from the same country. Only where there are no players left from that country will you be free to choose from another country in your second or third picks.
If you choose a blocked player from any of the ex-Soviet Union states then you will be free to choose anyone from the Soviet bloc. The same applies to the former Yugoslavia or the former Czechoslovakia. For example, if you pick a Ukrainian player and he is blocked, then your second pick can be from anywhere in the former Soviet Union.
The country that your pick was playing for when he was voted for in the Ballon D'Or is what is considered for the purposes of this round. The Ballon D'Or is the award that existed between 1956 and 2009.
You have 24 hours.
