Ridiculous reaction from the establishment but even more ridiculous that supposed "liberals" here quote stuff like "Russia remains our number one geopolitcal adversary".

Normalizing relations with Russia should be on the wishlist of everyone who labels himself liberal or left-leaning. The cold war is behind us for almost 3 decades now. Americans seem to function differently though. "Hurr durr, he talked to Russian president, TREASON, UNPATRIOTIC."

US Intelligence Agencies are among the most shady insitutions in the world, this shouldn't even be a debate, a large chunk of Americans themselves believe the CIA killed Kennedy and was involved in 9/11.

All these Republican tweets are cute. They’ll be back to donning the knee pads within the week.

This is just riding the wave of transient outrage which will soon pass.

I think this dude is confused. Must be awkward when his messiah is a zealot supporter of the Zionist cause and has a Jewish son in law and a daughter who also practices the faith. But again that’s as much integrity and intelligence I can expect from a white supremacist.

Surely even the biggest Trump supporters can’t stomach America being Russia’s bitch.
Well, have a look at the responses to this tweet over here

Trump's supporters are carved from the same rotten wood as him. Putin's autocracy serves pretty much as a role model for what they'd like to have implemented over in the U.S.
Far better than the current deep state librulism...

So has this blown over yet? I give it three more days tops, until it goes back to business as usual.

would be great if North Korea sent off a missile test today.

i can't help but feel THE FBI are sitting on a minefield of shit on Trump. The arrest of this Butina as a spy has to be a message to Trump that net is closing

With the dozens of arrests so far in the Mueller probe - it's felt this way for a long time.. but nothing ever comes :(

Sorry Cait, but that's naive. Russia is not a normal state, its a nation of oligarchs controlled by a former spy who was elected to crush the oligarchs and ended up leaving them in place in return for 50% of their wealth. They have already annexed part of another country, threatened the entire integrity of Ukraine, and because they were sanctioned for it have set up to smash the established world order using clandestine interference in western political systems. There is no normalization of relations with that regime, the best possible outcome (other than the regime falling internally) is to force them to stop and use international isolation to make them act at least with some measure of civility. "Russia remains our number one geopolitcal adversary" wasn't a quote from a liberal, it was from Mitt Romney, and back when he said it, many of us thought he was an out of touch fool. It turns out the joke was on us.

As for the trustworthiness or anotherwise of the CIA, it really doesn't matter a damn. It's not just the CIA who have confirmed Russian interference, its EVERY single US intelligence agency (and there are a lot of them). Any American who believes the word of Putin over the entire US intelligence service aparatus is an idiot.

Don't be facetious. You know very well there is a lot more to this than, as you put it, "hurr durr, he talked to Russian president." And if you don't, you shouldn't comment. As for the conspiracy theories... well, they're conspiracy theories. I can just about excuse someone for thinking there is something shady about the JFK killing, but anyone who thinks the CIA was involved in 9/11 is an idiot.

Large parts of the American public also believe the moon landings are fake and that climate change is a Chinese hoax. Whom and what Americans believe really shouldn’t be the gold standard here.

It’s certainly coming closer than ever. It’s just that too many people believed this would follow some Hollywood arc and would come to a swift conclusion what would bring the whole system down. That’s not how law enforcment works. The upcoming Stone indictment (and even the man himself believes it’s about to come) will be quite something. It’s the first direct collusion between Russian intelligence and the Trump campaign, no matter if knowingly or not.

To be honest, the CIA and the US deep state in general are amongst the most heinous and shady outfits on the planet.

It’s ridiculous to implicate them for the 9/11 attacks but it’s hardly outrageous to question their sincerity. They are in the business of deceit and manipulation after all.

Having said that, the US president throwing their credibility under the bus at the behest of an adversary is some truly cowardly stuff.

Especially the CIA credibility has taken a huge hit during the years because of the assassinations, regime changes, mk ultra, and the recent cherry on top, WMD in Iraq .

Beyond the question of collusion with Russia or Deep-State conspiracy, there is the more basic dilemma of how exactly an administration can fulfill its duties when the President picks and chooses the intelligence he decides to believe every day, apparently on the basis of whether or not it benefits him personally. In comparable situations elsewhere, such as Turkey with the Ergenekon case, something eventually had to give. So how long can this stand-off go on for?

I made myself chuckle with the idea of Trump as the monster being made to dance to Putin's beat, then it got out of control, then I abandoned it

The US does not care a dime about Crimea and the well-being of people of some poor eastern European state that 98 % of the US population couldn't spot on a map or how authoritarian Putin is. All of that is pretext. Saudi Arabia is arguably the worst country in the world right now in terms of human rights, exporting extremism and genociding yet Saudi-Arabia is a close ally of the US to which the US exports military equipment for billions of Dollars.

Now please explain why Russia is portrayed as the number 1 evil in the world to the US masses in a logical manner. Because a Russian troll bot network posted memes in social media for ad revenue purposes during the US election campaigns? Unreal how easy it is for 12 Russians to regime-change the US, meanwhile the US spends billions on Intelligence Services and fails in Syria.

The fact that Trump's meeting with Saudi Arabia, where he sold weapons to an Islamist kingdom where women aren't even allowed to drive cars, did not even receive 1/10 of the outrage that Trump's Russia meeting did, does not irritate anyone here? No one? Okay.

It is in the best interest of the US to build up Russia as an evil force which will invade us all if we do nothing about it, I totally get that. The US can sell their military weapons to everyone in Europe who must protect themselves from the bad Russians. They can sanction any deals with Russia so Europe can buy the expensive but totally democratic US fracking gas. Russia was also a nuisance in the attempt to overthrow Assad. I get all that. But the aggressive geopolitical interests of the US have nothing to do with us in Europe. Trump is honest. The US is not a friend of the EU. If Trump helps the EU to emancipate itself from the US his presidency will be a success (for us Europeans).

There is a 900% chance that someone other than Trump wrote these tweets. Which is a sign that they realize just how much they fecked up.
As I read these tweets that was my first thought. They do not bear the usual scattered tone and randomly capitalized rambling that typify most of his tweets.

He didn't write them and his team are scared shitless of the reaction to the summit. Damage control and propaganda going into overdrive now.
