The game is scheduled to launch on 24/02/15 and will be on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The latest trailer:

The trailer is from the live stream from CD Projekt, they said it's a gameplay trailer, not pre-rendered.

I couldn't find a thread on it. The game is looking amazing, can't wait to play it.

Top of my most wanted list.
Did you play the first two games? I skipped the first one but I played the second one and I loved it. The story is amazing, I might even read the books once I finish the game.

My happy place. Where I kill more than time.
I'm really excited and will definitely play it. Loved The Witcher 2. Still think it's one of the best looking RPGs out there despite it being 3 years old now.
I hope it will be as good or better than Witcher 2.

I read 2 or 3 of the books a few years back. They were decent but not great. Still, if you're a fan of the universe etc it might be worth it to read them.

Finished the second one, then bought the first on Steam. Haven't tried it yet, though.

Agreed, the Witcher 2 still looks very good. So the books don't make a great read? Would you say the game has a better story?

I have to say, the the first Witcher doesn't look that good to me. I played a bit of it but I couldn't get into it, I watched most of the story on Youtube so I haven't missed much, but the fighting is quite poor, as are the graphics.

After looking at my books I actually read the first 3 Geralt books: From "The last Wish" to "Blood of Elves".
I read them about 4 years ago and I have to admit I can't remember a lot of details from the books (bad memory and tons of other books I read since then).

The first one basically starts with how Geralt became a Witcher: his training when he was young and so on.
So, if you want to know more about how Geralt came to be a Witcher and like him and the universe/world Andrzej Sapkowski created you will probably enjoy reading them.
I did enjoy the books, maybe I'll re-read them once I finished all the books that piled up on my 'want-to-read-but-not-enough-time-stack' in recent times. All I'm saying is that the series (or rather the 3 books I read, he wrote a few more Geralt books since I read them) are not among the all time best fantasy series in my opinion.

I also can't comment on how good the English translation is (original is in Polish) as I read the German translation. They're actually one of the few books I didn't buy in English since I turned 16.

This is becoming boring now.

I find Witcher games very overrated simply for being made by a 'small' non -yankee/Japanese company. However both are good games (with the second one being better than the first one) and the story is pretty good. The story of the prolog, the beginning of the first act and the final act were brilliant but in middle there was a lot of shit.

Would be interesting if that witch (friend of Triss and the ex-love of Gerald) will make an appearance here. Apparently on the books she is his main love (instead of Triss).

The trailer for this looks amazing and I will play it. However the next Dragon Age will piss on this.

I heard the fans have done a very job with the translation, so that shouldn't be an issue. It's a good way to immerse yourself in the Witchers universe.

I never was able to finish the first one but I think it was decent up to the point I was able to play. Complete bug-fest on release though. I'd say it was an early beta at best.
Reminded me of the Gothic series, every one of them was bugged beyond believe on their release.
The second one was superb and I don't think it's overrated. Surely one of the better recent single player RPGs. They did so much right and very little wrong. Great setting, story, graphics and a decent combat system (still prefer round based combat where I can pause and think about what tactics and abilities to use).

Would be interesting if that witch (friend of Triss and the ex-love of Gerald) will make an appearance here. Apparently on the books she is his main love (instead of Triss).
Yes she is. Yennefer (don't know if I spelled that right) is her name.

Looks pretty amazing but I'm not buying that all is in game graphics there is too much difference in quality between some scenes for this claim to be true imo.

Still I'm really looking forward to this game I just hope the combat is better than in The Witcher 2.

It's going to be fecking amazing. The Witcher 2 was a great game.

Also, it's only got fecking Charles Dance aka Tywin Lannister in it! I don't have to tell all of you, of course, because you all heard and instantly recognized his voice from the trailer. Particularly Revan.

I definitely preferred the combat system of the first one.

However on all other things the second one was better.

One thing I don't like at it, is that you start as a total noob on the second game despite being omnipotent on the end of the first one. I know that it is difficult to give the perception of being strong in sequels when the protagonist is the same, but it can be done. Mass Effect sequels are decent examples of it.

Yep. I read rumours that Yennefer finally will make an appearance on this one. On the books I don't know even if Triss gets mentioned or not, while Yennefer is very important (read from the Witcher wiki, haven't read them).
Why can't you just like things that I like Revan ffs
Well, we both like Name of The Wind ;)

Bold claim, considering how utterly bland Dragon Age 2 was. I rank Dragon Age: Origins as one of the best RPGs ever, and I'm very excited about Dragon Age: Inquisition, but on previous performance there's no reason to think it will be better than The Witcher 3.

Of course it won't be better. BioWare has gone completely down the drain since EA bought them. Prepare for a barely working game with loads of pseudo decisions and and hand-holding because EA's marketing team has exactly determined that this is what their 10-15 year old target demographic wants from new games. Oh and loads of achievements that require for stuff like saving the game.

Dragon Age 2 is a better game than the original Witcher. Dragon Age: Origins is a better game than the second Witcher. Ta-ra.

I think that BioWare will do something good this time cause their last 3 big projects (Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 and SW:TOR) weren't that good, so I guess this is their last chance to redeem themselves. Also, on the past they did a game every year (especially after they became EAware) but now their last game was Mass Effect 3 released on March 2012. So, 2 and a half year on this (and an extra year since second Dragon Age), enough time to make things decent.

That logic is quite twisted, but I hope you're right. I can't give up on BioWare.

If only they'd gone and fecking made Knights of the Old Republic 3 like we asked them to, not this bloody MMO that no one wanted.

It probably is and maybe I am just seeing what I want to see. However, the majority of the staff is still there (except 2 docs who anyway weren't involved much on projects since Baldur's Gates and Karpyshyn who while great, we saw that BW can make great games without him like Dragon Age: Origins). This is their last chance, if they screw this up I doubt that people will buy their games anymore. They said that they are talking with the people of what they want for the game and they saw with Mass Effect that fans aren't just customers who can't vote. And more importantly, they took the time for this game instead of rushing it like on their latest games. When it was announce IIRC, it was supposed to be published last year, so a year dalay makes me think that they are investing more than to just give us a crappy game.

It's launched in 11 years?

Was just thinking it yesterday that I need to finish these two games. Started from the beginning knowing that nr. 2 is supposed to be great whilst the first one is "just" good. Enjoyed what I played of it. Imagine I'll finish them before next semester.

Bought 1 and 2 during a Steam sale, played 1 for a bit, didn't like it hence didn't play 2.

Dragon Age 2 better than The Witcher.. DA2 was absolute cack. The Witcher 2 and DA:O are comparable, though. Very different styles but both top notch. DA:Inquisition will likely be worse than Witcher 3, given the studio's trajectories relative to each other.

I only played the first one for a bit but go try the second one again, it's amazing. It's a whole different game from the first one, CD Projekt learnt a lot form the first game and took a of the fan feedback on board. It takes a bit to get into but stick with it.

Sorry, it was a typo, fixed it now! You can pretty much skip the first one, you won't miss much. Go straight into the second one, it takes a bit to fully get into but it's easily one of the best games I have ever played.

No idea why people write off The Witcher 1 so much. It's a great game, and people would miss a lot by not playing it. It's a tiny bit less accessible and quite a bit more dated than 2, but the story and gameplay are still better than 99% of RPG's. It's like saying not to play KOTOR/KOTOR 2 because they're old and a bit off control wise compared to modern games - it's dumb.

Obviously it's not the be-all and end-all but The Witcher 1 has a higher metacritic user score(8.9) than The Witcher 2(8.5).

I really don't get the gameplay being good in any of the Witcher games. It was basically press the left mousebutton as fast as you can. Unless you have done all the upgrades of the fire sign and then just cast it as fast as you can and you'll kil everything. I don't think that I did anything else in the second half of the game during the battles. The story was ok but nothing spectacular, and the way it was told was awful IMO. The voice acting (except that of Gerard and to a degree Triss) might be the worst ever in any video game.

The second one had a much better story and it started brilliantly. The prologue might be the best entrance on any video game I have played. However soon it became a bit mediocre (the story) until on the last chapter when it was great again. However, the gameplay was average IMO, press mouse to hit, cast a sign, hit again, walk away, repeat.

My biggest problem with both games were the side missions. They were absolutelly the same, go and collect x amount of this and after that go collect y amount of this monster. 5 contracts or so for every act, each of them completely the same. Blah!

Still better than most modern RPG though, but nothing spectacular IMO. I really think that if EA/Activision/Square would have made these games, they wouldn't be near as much rated as they are.

Can't believe someone would say that, it's insane, that game is shit. CD Projekt pretty much shit on Bioware with the Wither. In the Wither your choices really make a different unlike Bioware games.

Fair enough. It took me 6 months to finish the Witcher 2, I played the first chapter but I couldn't get into but I came back to it a few months later and I loved it.

That's the problem with games though, they can be very time consuming, so it's hard to finish off games that are long when you have other things to do. You don't get the same issues with TV shows and movies.

Well yeah, if you intentionally only play with one combination then any game will be boring. If you play KOTOR with just Force lightning/Force Storm then its combat will be terrible, etc. In any case, The Witcher 1's about more than combat, it's about the world, exploration, how alive and real it feels, the characters you interact with, the choices you make, the consequences of your choices, so on and so forth.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on the story. I thought it was excellent, as did most of the critics/users, apparently. Dragon Age 2's story far worse, as was "the way it was told", by almost any measure.

Edit: Also Revan, Geralt is a monster hunter, what did you expect the side quests to be about, picking daisies? It makes perfect sense that he'd be hunting monsters and added to the immersion.
