Romance aside he's just not good enough. Harsh truth.

It's one thing playing the romantic old united card. But you still need result to back it up.

All he needs is a good football and he could live a long career being united legend and all that, but alas he's not the next saf. No shame in that.

The first half of last season was crap, the second half was good. It might not specifically work out that way this year but the results will be mixed.

May or may not get top 4 as others have improved but to be totally honest I don't know what else anyone would expect. We improved our depth but have not improved 1 position in our starting line up except potentially left back.

yeah feels inevitable. Much bigger issues at the club, but he'll take the fall.
This. Turning point for me this will be, said it before, if Ole finishes third and takes the fall for this inept board I’m done.

I’ll still follow and love the club but I’m not getting emotionally invested like I normally am, they are pulling the wool over our eyes and fickle fans will w@nk over some new manager who’s either a has-been or somebody who’s won nothing and the cycle continues while Ed runs the circus and the Glazers fill their pockets.

Yeah, no thanks.

UK, hun?
They must have enjoyed Moyes record number of crosses in a game, LVG record number of sideway passes and Mourinho s entertaining style :)
Dead right. There's definitely a collective forgetfulness going on!

Agreed. But it s not enough. The rot had been going for such a long time that 200 million are not enough if we are to compete for honours.
Everyone knows that. But a quality manager would get much more out of 200 million spent.

See we can make up any story we want cant we? Fact is though Ole is responsible for his budget and his transfers as he should be he is a manager not a coach.
There's nothing to suggest Ole was given a specific budget or that he was involved in negotiations for any of the players, is there? Or is that part of the "we can make up any story we want"?

Shall I assume that with a better manager we would have come second then?
No but you should assume that with a quality manager we'd have gotten more than 66 points I.e a measly 2 points better than the great David Moyes.

Can't wait for that day. He is probably worse than Moyes. Need to look at the ppg with Moyes.

Sack him this month and we can still save the season.

I don't get why people think that changing the whole board will suddenly make Ole a good manager

He's basically a lame duck waiting to get fired.

Look, I like Ole, but let's be objective: He's not a worldclass manager like Fergie was or like Pep and Klopp are right now.

He's solid, but nothing more.

He's not outsmarting other coaches in actual games, he doesn't turn mediocre players into overachieving worldbeaters and he doesn't exactly have a lot of pulling power on the transfer market.

Those fact alone will get him fired rather sooner than later, despite him not even being a "bad manager". It's just that he's clearly not someone "special" and this will always get you fired at a big club like United, Real, Bayern, Barca etc.

Cold hard reality.
Who else we have on the list we can "Sort this mess / Control egos / Bring in right players / Implement right coaching methods and finally Play right system ?

1. Henderson coming in for DDG is debatable and not as clear cut, but still not a huge drop in quality compared to...Maguire dropped for Bailly or Mengi/Axel paired with Lindelof (dangerous is an understatement) / VDB or Fred for Pogba is more functional than flash, so okay there / but Dan James on current or recent form for Rashford is trouble too. AWB for TFM...ugh, terrible. Could give Williams a shot. Also, you have to allow players to play into fitness and form at some point.

2. Blaming the shape entirely on the manager and coaches isn't right as individual mistakes and then going down a man doesn't help anything, regardless of shape or personnel. But there are big concerns as to why the entire backline is so far well below quality compared to last year and this is looking at it as a group and individually.

3. He's without Martial for 3 games already, so you're forced to pick players out of necessity rather than form or good chance to pick up said form. Gonna have to rely on James and Ighalo to step up while Mason finds his shooting boots, Cavani gets fit, and Marcus gets acclimated as a CF again if he starts over Ighalo.

He needs to go 3 at the back and be more pragmatic to nullify the opposition chances that have been way too many. Play to your strengths and that's the central midfield players. Keep it tight and tidy but there's enough players to have those moments of brilliance that all teams rely on game to game.
Thats what the reserves are for, Pogba and Slabhead, for an example should be playing in the reserves until they can get their shot together, like De Gea should have been repeatedly for the last 18 months,

Moyes had arguably a better team though the rotten club structure was the same unfortunately

The players we bring in are big names or they start think like that as soon as we linked to them means we need someone to control big egos and not sure if Ole got that to be honest or the backing from Board.

For me it's the sooner the better.

What most of us don't get is that a pussy like Ole will never ever force the club into change, never. And let's be honest, unless a new owner comes in, one that pumps his own money in, the structure will remain as it is.

Our only chance of getting back to the top is a top notch manager with a more "elegant" aproach towards our top management and one who can actually coach players and deliver results.
I miss a manager that going bat shit crazy on the sideline, when his team going bad on the field. But maybe I'm just an old school fan, instead of these younger ones who prefer manager to act cool whatever happen.

I hope so tbh for the good of the club because pogba is not being used well by ole and at the same time he seems too hesitant to drop him just like he wouldn't drop de gea or Maguire during a tough spell in his personal live.

I’m willing Ole to succeed but my view is that we actually have the best squad we’ve had for a long time and we look awful. Yes there’s a hole or two in terms of depth but really, on paper, we can put out a pretty strong first 11. Problem is we don’t look like we can even play football. Rightly or wrongly the manager will take the heat for that ultimately.

Woody is essentially the middleman between the manager and the Glazers. The problem is that he's on the Glazers' side.

Summer 2019
Ole:
The team is a mess. We probably need as many as 5 solid additions to the starting XI if our goal is to challenge for titles.
Woody: Ok, I'll give you 40% of that. Here are 2 defenders and an unproven Championship winger.
Ole: We have problems in midfield and attack as well, though?
Woody: What was that?
Ole: N.. Nothing! I guess if Pogba can stay injury free we may reach top 4...
Woody: Now that's what I'm talking about!

*Pogba gets injured*
*Total disaster ensues*

January 2020
Woody:
*sigh* Ok, I'll give you 60%! Here's Bruno and a backup striker from the Chinese league. Better hustle now, boy!
Ole: Oh gee! Thanks, Mr. Woodward!

*finishes 3rd after a miraculous comeback*

Summer 2020
Ole:
I did OK, no? Could I maybe get the remaining 40% now? And maybe some bench options but that's not the most imp...
Woody: Sold to the man who looks like Gollum!
Ole: Oh boy, I can't wait! Finally United will have a starting XI that kind of looks like a United team!
Woody: Actually, I'm only giving you 40% of your current request. I figured that translates to some bench options. See you in January! If you still have a job, hehehe.
The 2 defenders costed us 130m. They aren't worth half the price now. But hey let's buy 200m - 220m worth of talent to

A- bench our most promising player since the class of 92

B-to act as cover for the CM we bought for 50m

C-to compliment the utterly shambles of a CB, the manager brought in for huge money

Knowing his luck he is going to win a couple of games and everyone says he has turned it around and then back again to the same old stuff.

I can’t see it. Don’t get me wrong, he should be sacked, but I just can’t see it happening before Christmas or so. The board pulling the trigger any sooner would be a massive shift from their usual position of only acting when the season is already beyond salvaging.

It's funny because we would usually not even be contemplating a sacking being realistic with the board before top 4 becoming impossible. Probably Poch's availability has been the worst thing that could happen to him. The headache of finding a caretaker is no longer a barrier in favour of keeping him.

Ole's awful runs in the first half of last season kept getting redeemed by wins against top 6 opponents every month or so. If he can no longer eek out those top 6 results then yeah his approval rating will plummet and he won't make it to January. I think Ole will go back to the defensive counter tactics that got those wins and it will buy him a couple more months. Pushing up has been a disaster for him so far

People in this thread are blind to the realities of modern football. People talking about Ole taking the club back where they want to be. People talking about Ole taking the fall.

The club is exactly where they want to be and Ole is doing EXACTLY what they want him to do. He is the smiling face of the United brand. He is the ex-player bringing the DNA back into the club. And he is happy doing it by not getting any decent players. He will never speak bad about the club and as long as they finish top 4 or near top 4 he will be at United for a while yet.

Ive actually seen a few posts that mention getting a DOF in in place of Woody and letting Ole get on with his job
The people that say that will be shocked when said DoF shows no sentimentality and sacks him. Ole won't survive 6 months with real football people in charge

So if we change managers every season, we'll become more successful? I see people saying the same thing over and over again, but 4 managers in 7 years (5 if you include Giggsy) isn't a stable environment where a manager can even attempt to build a legacy. We'll get a new manager who'll need a few seasons to build a team, it's a cycle we're not going to get out of without major changes in the structure of the club.
The manager doesn't need to build a legacy or a team that's my point. We need to stop thinking like that and instead expect managers to come in and enhance the team, that might be a little through coaching and a little through transfers. The idea that good players suddenly need shipping out because you sack the manager is a nonsense.

Our project is the clubs and not the product of any specific manager. That doesn't mean we need to be unreasonable and sack the manager every year but it does mean if a manager has run his course we move on and continue our project.

Based on this thread Ole is essentially a caretaker manager at this point. I think the board like him in charge. When we fail to make top 4, they'll get a bit spendy and then Ole will be required to make top 4. Basically we've become a top-4 bubble team ala Arsenal.

Forget about top 4, top 8 might be a reach this year.
Teams that are currently comfortably better than us.

Liverpool
City
Chelsea
Leicester
Arsenal
Tottenham
Everton

Thats 7 teams. And we dont know about darkorses like Leeds. Seriously the sooner he is gone the better. We got horribly outplayed in all 3 games so far, our goal difference should have been like 3-15. We got saved by a Brighton miracle that game.
So yeah the sooner he is sacked the better. This ship is sinking and fast.
This is shaping up to the best worst season since Fergie retired. It was actually last season that was the worst until we got the Bruno bump. Winning 66 points we barely made it better. We won 64 points under Moyes.

You should also start the thread, "There is a feeling of inevitability about Poch losing his job", now.

Ole won't be sacked anytime soon.

Don't fret too much. Trust me you'll love the next manager who wins the league with us, so not that much use investing emotionally in players/ managers who haven't done so yet.
