Thoughts on Tuchel as a potential United manager?

Another managers signings that two years down the line another manager will have to accommodate. At some point we’ve got to give someone time to shape a squad. Or at least replace one manager with a similar one
Which ETH signings would be binned by a new manager in your opinion? Any manager will be happy to work with the likes of Malacia, Martínez, Mount, Onana, and Hojlund.

We are having completely new structure where manager is not in charge of transfers. And Tuchel is one of those managers who doesn't insist to have "his players". He is more a coach than old school manager.
This is also true.

I thought there was a chance he stays in Munich but after reading this, the situation is probably not salvageable

I don't like him, I get he's a decent coach but Ole aside we've had years of piss poor personalities dragging the club down.

That said if he came in and did a decent job that would help.

One positive would be having a manager who challenges poor referee decisions again

It’s something I’ve never liked about Erik even when we were doing well. I really dislike how accepting he is of them

I liked some of his football with Chelsea in the big games vs City and Liverpool, although sometimes it seemed that for all their energy they lacked a bit of cutting edge.

If we're hiring a new manager for a much needed rebuild, is this the guy to do it though? You have Varane, Martial, Eriksen and Casemiro likely leaving in the summer, a group of youngsters who need a lot of patience and a supportive manager- Garncaho, Mainoo, Hojlund- and lots of inconsistent, injured or average/decent players like McTominay, Maguire, Shaw, AwB, Rashford, Lindelof, Antony.

Tough job for any manager.

Would be very happy if we get Tuchel. Huge upgrade on what we currently have.

Southgate would be depressing

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
The more I debate in his favour against some of the criticism against him from other posters, I'm convincing myself that this is a huge opportunity for us here. @MadMike said he's been a disaster for Bayern, yet there's every chance they finish on 78 points which is as good or better than they have done in 4 of the last 5 seasons ie title winning form when you don't have an enigma of a team who haven't lost all season. He also has them in the CL Semis.

If this is a disaster, what the hell is Ten Hag? Laughable...

I wouldn't mind seeing him here, wouldn't be super excited either. But think he would be an upgrade on EtH.

Why do you say that though? In fairness, I haven't followed his record enough, but he was more than willing to play Mount and James ar Chelsea, and they improved massively under him?
Mount and James were dead certs. Not players in need of specialised development. That's why he binned the likes of Tomori & preferred to send the Colwill's on loan. Plus didn't do much to help Pulisic or Hudson-Odoi kick on with potential. The same accusation the Bayern hierarchy are giving him Tel, Davies, Musiala etc. He also isn't interested in much that goes below the first team. Above all he is way confrontational.

Given the number of potentially good kids we have coming through who need the managerial attention. Plus thr issues we could signing all the players we need to take the next stepn in progress. IMO he is a very wrong fit to succeed Ten Hag.

You'd rather take a chance on a left field choice like Motta. Than him

This is probably an awful time to answer this question because right now I’d take Tuchel in a heartbeat just to get away from ETH.
At this point I am taking Potter to get away from Ten Hag, and I rate Tuchel much more highly than Potter!

Hoeness has not done enough damage already?
Hoeness is a clown and Bayern are called Hollywood FC for a reason.

Tuchel basically doesn't suffer fools and if you look into why he's left all his previous clubs, it was not some Mourinho engineered fall out, he had good reason each time (even if you can argue that's still not ideal).

Tuchel is a head coach not a manager. He won't come in and demand certain players. He will of course recommend certain areas that need reinforcements. The new management have made it clear that we will no longer depend on the manager for recruitment, ironically your post is a pro for Tuchel not a con.
Sure, but for me what is a con is that he seems to be a common denominator in clubs that get a bit fed up of the managers behaviour.

I'm not sure that's where we are. If it was a case of knocking the ball into the net I would say TT leaps off the page because he's achieved some very good things. But we aren't going to do shit for the next few seasons in that regard and I don't want a manager lacking tact and eliminating work that has been done through his own ego. That's what concerns me about him.

I think a De Zerbi is going to mould himself to the management that are here in a more predictable way. Not that I'm glued to De Zerbi, perhaps there are other candidates too.

At this point, why even think long term. Most of the elite clubs don't. .....
They actually do. Few of the sucesfull ones pick a manager who will leave them in dire trouble in a few years. That is why the likes of Mourinho have found such jobs less and less open to them. They prefer continuity along a particular footballing path. Being quick to rectify it if they pick the wrong man to keep driving in the direction they desire.

The epitome of short term thinking is being stuck in the mindset of the days of Fergie. When the manager determined it all. Its time for United to buck the trend. If they do for ETH. They must hire a person who can better execute what he was trying to instill. Not hire a philosophical and methodological opposite ever again.

He is better than EtH but I'm not sure he could work any wonders with this team.

And at this stage we really need a miracle worker.
A good manager and 3-4 quality signings might get us top 4 next season, but this squad is one of the worst we have had in the PL. I doubt ETH is the manager to get us forward. He believed that Mount was the player our midfield needed last summer...

Totally agree, I mean watching Chelsea right now and I think, yeah they aren't great but they seem to be on the verge of it, they don't seem to be missing too much so that everything will fall into place for them to compete for top spots again, not so with us. Whenever I watch us I feel like I'm watching a really not so great football team that is closer to mid table performance wise than they are to a top 4 spot.

I don't know much about him but

Sacked at Dortmund
Left due to a falling out at PSG
Sacked at Chelsea
Going to be sacked at Bayern

Doesn't fill me with confidence

Managers get sacked, it's part of the game. Our fanbase is the only one that treats managerial sackings as the ultimate offense and black mark on one's career.

What matters is how he did at each of those clubs, and I'd argue aside from Bayern (the jury is still out there depending on their CL campaign and possibly beyond), he did a pretty solid job at all those clubs.

To be fair, the sacking at Chelsea is widely regarded as one of the dumbest moves a club had made in recent times.

Why are you including just the negative stuff, what about;

German equivalent of the FA cup at dortmund
2 x Ligue 1 titles
CL at Chelsea
Bundesliga at Bayern.

Believe he left Dortmund in a dispute about transfers, which was also partially a reason why he was let go at Chelsea. His personality aside, he’s consistently delivered an above 60% winning percentage at each of the past four big clubs he’s managed. The question for Ratcliffe and his executive team is how much latitude the next manager will have in terms of transfers and technical staff.

The Chelsea sacking was of course also widely controversial.

To be honest, the only thing that really stands out there is the CL at Chelsea.
Bundesliga and Bayern and 2 titles at PSG are basically expected.

I was tagged 4 times in quick succession so I'm not going to quote you all.
I'm not saying I'm against the idea of him, I don't really know much about the guy or his tactical preferences.

Just his history of getting sacked, falling out with the board etc, just comes across very Mourinho.
I take the other guys point that sackings are part and parcel of football, but this is basically his last 4 big appointments.

There are only four managers who reached a CL semifinal with three (or more) clubs: Ancelotti, Guardiola, Mourinho and Tuchel. I think that stands out, more than the achievements listed before.

A vastly superior coach to Ten Hag with a proven track record of success in multiple countries and in Europe. Of course I'd take him at United!

I'd be worried it's another coach past his best like LVG and Jose.

LVG was very obviously past his best and I'd argue Mourinho clearly was too, although he did have a title winning team with Chelsea. Tuchel could be past his best but it's probably not crazy to think his peak is yet to come, something you wouldn't argue for LVG or Mourinho.

As I said, FC Hollywood. And they're still in the CL. That Real Madrid game will be intriguing.

They're closing in on a CL trophy so hard to make the case he's past it.

Also, something like 10k Bayern fans have signed a petition to keep him at Bayern, which suggests the fan base are still behind him despite a poor league year.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
If he is available hire him. We actually will have a proper footballing structure for the first time in our history. It will be nice to see how a football club is meant to operate.

Even if he walked the league the same fans will be calling it a farmers league anyway.

They should be calling for his job given that they're accustomed to winning the league every year. The fact that they aren't is a good sign in terms of his relationship with the fanbase.
