As much as I dislike Lingard he is naturally fit and always looks like a world beater in pre-season which effectively this is. I think his fitness and ability to pressure and drop back in midfield will be key with James coming on in replacement in the last 20 mins or so.

    Martial
    Rashford---Bruno---Lingard
    Pogba--McTominay
    Shaw--Maguire--Lindelof--AWB
    DDG

    I'd like to see...

    Martial
    Rashford Bruno Greenwood
    Pogba McT
    Shaw Maguire Lindelof AWB
    DDG

Start fast and blow them away. Out-work them, out-run them, and attack boldly. Mourinho teams don't recover if you get goals against them early on.

    Rashford Martial James
    Pogba Bruno
    McT
    Shaw Maguire Lindelof AWB
When legs start tiring and we want to tighten up later on, whichever of Pogba and Bruno is flagging the most can come off for Fred/Matic to sit behind next to McT. Greenwood to get half an hour for James - defenders won't be closing as fast by then and he can ping a few shots at goal.

    0-4 to United.

As much as I like Pogba, and as eager as I as to see him with Bruno, Martial and Rashford, I don't think I'd start him straight off the bat.

For now, I'm fine with sticking with 2 out of Matic/Fred/McTominay behind Bruno as said duo hav done well in every big game pretty much this season.

Ease him in here off the bench, and start him against Sheffield.

Ole will have to make a big call with all his midfielders fit and available.

I think he will drop Fred with Pogba back in the side, Matic will play to provide balance and protection with both Bruno and Pogba in the team.

Wouldn't rush Pogba in, especially not against a Mourinho team. Will probably end up with studs in his ankles. Fred, McT and Bruno in the middle should win this for us, swap Bruno for Pogba at 60/70.

Pogba will be at the same fitness level as all the other midfielders at this point so I really can’t see how he doesn’t start. I think the team will be:

    ————————De Gea———————
    AWB—Lindelof——Maguire—Shaw
    ————————Fred—————————
    ———Fernandes————Pogba———
    James————Martial——Rashford—

The midfield will of course be the big question mark but I just don’t see any other selection based on this seasons performances and well as Oles comments in the past about Pogba.

Mourinho will lose this game on purpose to claim he needs backing in the window and talk about Tottenham needing to spend, while highlighting Chelsea's business.

Why is people starting James still ? The guy cant cut in from the right hand side and spends his time crossing to a striker who isnt in the box and is more a support striker.

Just play Greenwood and play James as a back up off the bench for both. It gives us two clinical strikers playing off a central supportive one - that's a proper balanced front 3 in front of a midfield containing the likes of Bruno and Pogba.

Greenwood is by far the better player but evidence suggests that Ole will favour James over him. Greenwood doesn’t start too many games.

Pogba being played against Tottenham isn't him getting rushed. He's been fit for 2 months now and has gone through all the training with the rest of the squad prior to restarting the league.

Because they think Ole will start him which is very likely. I mean people are just predicting what most likely to happen rather than what they want to see.

That's fair but I don't know - this is pretty much make or break point of the season now and we really need to go for the CL qualification dont we?

Greenwood for me has now broken through to the first team and is good enough to play with a team that has the best of United players around him. He should play games with Rashford, Martial, Bruno, Pogba and that's different to holding him back a little bit when players like Rashford and Pogba were injured or we didnt have Bruno- where we might have had to rely too much on Greenwood too soon.

I had heard he was using this coronavirus period to train on this like his pace and stuff like that - for Ole not to put out our strongest team to go for the CL when everyone is fit is disappointing and confusing especially after a considerable period of no games played.

United’s best performances this season haven’t had Pogba in them, I think? Could be wrong.

Only three positions that are puzzling.

    Martial
    Rashford -- Bruno -- ????
    ???? -- ????
    Shaw -- Maguire -- Lindelof -- AWB
    DDG
 Whoever Ole put in the 3 slots will be criticized no matter what?
    High chance: Fred, McT, Pogba
    Good chance: Lingard, James, Matic

City home and away in the league, Chelsea home and away in the league. Pogba played in that home game vs Chelsea.

My personal favourite performance this season was I think against Newcastle ( I know it doesn't say much) - but still the way Rashford, Martial & Greenwood played was great and then Pogba came on and suddenly it just looked like it was too much quality to handle.

Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Bruno, Pogba sounds like too much quality to handle especially when we have defensive ability of players like AWB, Shaw ,De gea and Maguire.

Get the feck in. Can't wait. Tough game and they'll be in a much better position compared to if we played them a few months ago, but so will we. Let's start off with a big win, if we do I can see us going on a great run to finish the year.

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Bruno Pogba Rashford
    Martial

Kinda stuck in 2 minds here. Either do this, Bruno with a free attacking right side role, Pogba a roaming midfielder and the rest as expected, or drop Fred out, midfield 3 of Pogba, McTominay and Bruno, with James on the right. Think the above is how we get our best 11, and I'm sure Bruno can be great there (in a Becks sort of way), but the added pace of James might help and the midfield might be fine without Fred.

Strongest lineup we've put out in a very long time though. Maybe on par with 16/17 when all was looking rosy and we had Ibra, Martial/rashford rotating, Mkhitaryan in form, pogba and Herrera in midfield, and a decent defensive group. This one is much younger though.

It will be a diamond. With Pogs, Scott, Fred and Bruno. Rashy and Martial will exploit their slow backline.

I'm trying not to keep my expectations too high, but you can't help but be excited at our midfield and attacking options

The only position that's hard to predict right now is which midfielder join Pogba and Bruno, the rest is fairly easy to predict(even Ole starting James on the right).

While Fred has improved massively, Ole will still be looking to play more of an anchor and sitting midfield rather than an energetic presser in Fred to balance Pogba and Bruno which means Scott and Matic have that over him. This is where it gets hard.

At the beginning of the season i'd have said McTomminay but with Matic's form before we stopped due to the pandemic, I'm leaning toward Ole picking him in the first game back.

I just realized, I totally forgot about Fred and the excellent form he has shown this season. Shame on me.

I'd have him in place of Mctom in my lineup above.

I might cry if I see lingard start this game. So many more deserving players over him. Either James or greenwood should take the right.

also Ole biggest test is deciding which midfield 3 he wants to go with.

Honestly I think Fred will be the third midfielder.

Yeah, if everyone is fit and Rashford is ready to start the game. Will be interesting to see if Pogba and Bruno step on each other's toes as happened with Sanchez and Pogba.

Yeah at first they got in each other's ways, but towards the end of Sanchez's first (1/2) season, they gained good understanding with one another (I remember this is once they divided their tasks with Sanchez more likely be the one that pass from deep left with Pogba bomb forward into the box more) and their combination were really promising. Only in that season though unfortunately.

Hopefully Bruno and Pogba will gel immediately but even if not, I'm confident they can divide their spaces and tasks well eventually. Bruno is arguably more dangerous offering scoring threat outside box and Pogba is much better inside. Easy.

Can't wait to see United in action again. I think Pogba will be subbed in at some point. Probably 4231.
    Martial
    Rashford - Bruno - Greenwood
    Fred - McT
    Shaw - Lindelof - Maguire - AWB

Feels great to have football again and this thread open.

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    Fred - Scott
    James - Bruno - Rashford
    Martial

Should be more than enough lineup to win this.

    Will go 2-1 for us.

Can't submit lineups ? Says : Submissions are now closed. There were 37 predictions.

Il go for something different and say that Ole plays Fred & Bruno Fernandes in centre midfield due to Bruno's defensive ability whilst playing Pogba as an AM or
All 3 in a flat 433 with Bruno & Pogba taking alternatives to attack the half spaces in midfield one at a time.

    Rashford- Martial -Greenwood
    Pogba
    Fred- Bruno Fernandes

    Or

    Rashford-Martial- Greenwood
    Pogba-Fred- Bruno

I can't remember a game where Sanchez worked on the left when Pogba was also playing left of a midfield three. They both looked good in that 2nd half comeback against City, are there other examples?

Pogba and Bruno should be easier but it probably won't be easy.

It will be fascinating to see if and how it tries to play Pogba and Bruno in the same team.
