Just get him for free in 12 months time and pick up Rabiot a new keeper and top class striker this summer!

Thats the thing. If we wait another year, he has his pick of clubs, but I'd be guessing with Mount, that fact that we've tried, and Chelsea are playing hard, he'd probably accept that we did our best and that'd give us the upper hand next year. Put that money to use this season on another player.

Tier 1:

Time to walk away and concentrate on Caciedo and let Chelsea know that’s what we are doing offering Caciedo CL football, 200k per week and Brighton £75m plus £15m in add ons watch Chelsea squirm then ?

Tier 1:

60 mil for Masan Mount fecking hell that's the worst deal of all time. I hope Ineos/Qatar razes the whole transfer department from the scouts to the negotiaters.

It’s overpriced if he had 3/4 years on his contract we should tell him to sit it out and we’ll give him fat signing on fee next summer.

On a scale from 1 to 10, what is the likelihood Greenwood will play for United next season?

Well when you see a tier 1 like Ducker not linking him to loan deals, then it's starting to look in the middle somewhere maybe past it

Agreed. Time to repair our reputation. Set the hard limit and stick to it. If you’re not prepared to walk away from the deal you’re bound to overpay. Let Chelsea think about how much they want a disgruntled player running out his contract in their team.

Walk away. I'm not against Mount if ETH wants him ,but let's not get bent over by Feckin Chelsea.
We will sign players but they have to be the right players at the right price. Being overpriced puts an expectation on players which rarely works out well

BBC say that United would walk away if they reject the third offer, hopefully they follow through

United had warned they would walk away from negotiations with the Blues if the offer was not accepted.

Chelsea are thought to want at least £58m plus another £7m in possible add-ons for the England international.

However, United feel that figure is excessive as Mount only has a year left on his contract and talks about an extension have stalled.

I think it's very likely.
He’ll be loaned out with a view to sell probably to Italy, he’s been out for 18 months he needs to go prove himself first and I can’t see him ever really playing in EPL.

Yeah then get Mount either at discount price in January or on a free next summer
Exactly, just tell him we will increase his salary by 25k per week if he sits it out and give him a signing in fee.

We spent 50m on Fred to be fair. Honestly people are acting like Mount is a conference league level player.

I'd quite like to sign Mount. But I agree that we should walk away now, if only to set the precedent that United won't tolerate being messed around by selling clubs.

All depends on how our non-Rashford attackers progress next year. The club is thinking about bringing him back because of necessity and not because they want to support their own or anything like that. The only reason there is even a conversation about playing him is because of how horrible we are going forward. There is literally only one source of goals and in an era where all it takes is half a good season to cost £120m and an era where winning has become the end all be all, even above the ignominy of totalitarian petro-state funded financial doping and all kinds of sexual impropriety accusations (Partey, Dani Alves, Benzema, Ribery, Ferland and Bernard Mendy, Ronaldo etc.), the club faces the decision of vaporising years of investment in the player and having to commit in excess of £150m-£200m to replace the talent or rolling with the publicity punches and giving him another look in before deciding to kick him to the curb if he's no longer up to it. If Antony and Sancho actually become proper players and start producing at a high level there may not be a need to play him at all.

We are offering £55m - they want £65m - and people say we should walk away.

Chances are Chelsea will accept with a minor tweak of the deal - do we really want to walk away from a player ETH BADLY wants over £3-5m ? And how do we even know that United will walk away if the third bid is rejected - does anyone here seriously think they will tell Chelsea or jouralists something like that ? Offer 55+5m - and Chelsea will accept.

Is £60 million a lot for a player with 12 months left on his contract ? Yes - but is it really that much a 24 year old english international if you ignore the contract thing ? Of course not. And that is the main thing.

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind a £55m + £20m if the addon clause had to do with winning PL in the next 2-3 years and he had 2500 PL minutes that season.

It's a bit annoying if the addon clause is some easily achievable goal like 5 goals the first season.

Which was a mistake. A second mistake wont make it better. It is also a thing of principles. We said we would walk away. Time to act.

Every man and his dog knows we won't walk away. Chelsea would be stupid to lower it any further really as we will just pay what they ask in the end.

Absolutely, like we always do. At least under the Glazers. I hope the new ownership changes this stupidity.

Except we have moved from 40m all-in to this. Chelsea have not moved at all

My number one wish from the new owners is to completely overhaul the transfer department. 55m already is too much for Mount in his last year, but we are still negotiating. Move on to better targets.

Where are our alternate options to Mount? It's easy for Chelsea to just hold out if they believe we are not progressing with other options in parallel.

We should be doing basic purchase funnel logic in the same way anyone buys anything. When you buy a new TV you look for the features you want and have a rough idea of how much you want to pay. You whittle it down to 4-5 actual TVs and then ultimately end up probably buying the one you get the best terms on - like which one is on promotion.

Walk away.
- GK: buy Onana
- DF: buy a CB (?)
- MF: buy Rabiot and promote Hannibal and Amad
- SK: buy the Atlanta forward.

Well in the last couple of days the rumours say we will move on to Caicedo if Chelsea rejects the 55m offer. Hard to believe he is the alternative because he’s a completely different profile of midfielder compared to Mount.
