I know it's the 'in thing' to not want Garay this summer, but he is a very impressive defender. Would be an excellent signing IMO.

Among the other 6 CBs, I feel it's overkill. Sure Rio and Vidic are getting old, but we've still got Jones,Evans,Smalling and Wootton.
We could have this discussion till the cows come home though, so lets just wait and see what happens..

I'd rate Keane as a better prospect than Wootton. Don't think Wootton has a chance of making it.

Okay so through Twitter today I have heard:

Thiago - off.
Strootman - off.
Garay - off.

And that one guy who says a Thiago medical next week.. Hmm.. Might want to get that sorted earlier with the team fecking off out of England next Wednesday, dear.

The entire medical staff at the hospital in Carrington where medicals take place now travel with the players? If it was indeed going to get sorted next week, the team leaving on preseason doesn't affect that.

I couldn't care less how many CB's we have to be honest. The two strongest will prevail. And it would be nice to not have a defensive crisis for one season.

Well that wasn't my point. If we want any new signings to play in the tour, it would be best to have them signed up completely this week.

United are willing to accept £17m buyout clause if Thiago doesn't play enough at OT.

Is it just me who doesn't understand what this tweet means?

Talks of Thiago's camp wanting a buyout clause similar to the one he has now with Barca, should he not get enough playing time with us.

It's just saying we would allow Thiago to have a buyout clause of £17m in his contract which would be activated if he didn't play enough games at OT - basically the same clause he's got in his Barca contract... Except we'll probably play him!

He can join the Spanish speaking contingent with De Gea and Thiago, and he's a handsome bloke.

This will be the start of us slowly slowly turning into future Spain. We should have hijacked Isco Berbatov style.

Figures it would be the one transfer we don't need that is becoming the most likely. I just hope to feck this is not a sign that Jones will be getting more game time as a CM.

Ain't no blue tick there. But he is following the account.

"Oficial". Doesn't that mean...erm....official? I know there's no blue tick - but you surely can't state its a fake account with all those followers. He even says "hugs" in his tweets, which is what many Spanish speaking players do  Face it, he's ours.

I'm shocked - but excited and worried at the same time. What plans does Moyes/Fergie* have? Is something leaving?

*I mention Fergie because we were heavily linked with Garay a few months back and it does seem the link was concrete.

Probably the winding down of Rio and Vidic minutewise, while we can't rely on Smalling yet and Jones may still be shunted about(CB/RB/CM/ManMarking). Last few seasons we've been caught out at CB despite being relatively stacked there.

Apparently he doesn't appear in their last few hundred followers, although he does follow them. He may well have been following for a while.

The thing is with the CB's is that there's nobody at their peaks. Jones and Smalling have massive potential, Evans is steadily improving and should be peaking in the next few years and realistically Rio and Vidic are on the way down, even if they're standards at the moment are still very high. Garay is 27 in October and should be nearing his peak in the next few years, by which time Rio and Vida should be gone.

Surely the point of signing players who haven't reached their peak yet is to give them plenty of playing time to enable them to fulfill their potential? I'd say having two older players like Rio and Vida is almost the perfect scenario to gradually blood the younger lads.

I'm slightly afraid this signing may be related to Rio's back problems and his overall condition/stamina level.

I still believe our most experienced defender can give us two seasons more, but risk still remains, there.

Moyes doesn't want to have his debut plan destroyed by injuries and I can understand that aggressive stance on overhauling the defense which I can't deny as many people here - It was our main problem and still may be.

Aside from Ferdinand we have four other CB's though and someone like Keane should we need him. Signing a defender might make sense if he was of the very highest quality but signing a defender who isn't better than what we have seems strange to me

Maybe Moyes doesn't trust Smalling or Jones to fill in when necessary? Rio and Vidic will more then likely be starters, but both have been injury prone these last few years, and the same with Smalling who was basically out for most of last season. Evans is known to get a few injuries here and there as well, but nothing too much. How many times over the last 5-6 years have we been reduced to playing Carrick in defence, or wingers as fullbacks because of too many injury problems? Signing Garay kind of helps cover that position even more, especially now that Rio and Vida are another year older.

And why hasn't this level of forward thinking been applied in central midfield as well?

Good move for Kaka if true - give him a shot at gettin into the WC squad..

Best shot at making the squad although Ronnie has failed to impress in Brasil enough to warrant inclusion. Purchased for €68.5 million, 4 seasons & 29 goals later back to Brasil at a €15 million bargain - kudos to Perez

Doesn't seem to matter how many CB's we have they all seem to get injured and we end up short.

Our transfer targets this summer are definitely a set of lookers. Would score at least a 19 each for Handsome on FM. Better than the days we were linked with Ribery, or put up with the summer-long Tevez saga.
