I'm fairly sure that United were after Higuain before he signed for Real. I do remember there being lots of stories about our interest.

Higiuan is better then Benzema.
No more argentines :nervous: ....unless it's Messi

But seriously if some of these players are for sale it would be stupid not to join the auction this time atleast.

We really could have done with some of their players in the Ronaldo deal last year.

I have been thoroughly underwhelmed by Van Der Vaart whenever I've seen him play, which is a few times in the Liga this year.

van der Vaart is too much of a luxury player for my liking... I'd take him, but only for maybe 10m at the most.

And of course I'd love to see Higuain at United.

They can keep L. Diarra. Overrated headless chicken.

Yep. Fanny Fart couldn't really impose himself in La Liga - no chance in the PL. 'Lass' is the same £5M player we sold to Portsmouth. Higuain is a top banana but going nowhere.

You need a name change to avoid confusion with the real Erics Collar. The 'choler' would do it but 'paula' is not a bad alt.
You should keep your name, both of the people recognisable by it are complete fuds who make no sense. ;)

The article is obviously a piece of garbage. Mourinho isn't stupid, he won't let the likes of Higuain and VDV leave, they're quality players and he'll need them. Jose's style isn't about big names, it's team first. Benzema is a special case, obviously talented and still young, but for whatever reason didn't have a good season.

The rest is just an assortment of players that won't bring much cash anyway. Raul and Dudek are done, Lassana Diarra has some kind of medical condition that may end his career and will certainly be a question mark for any potential suitors, the other Diarra is permanently injured and Drenthe is a bust. Haven't been impressed by Gago whenever I watch Real last season and defensive mids aren't known for warranting big transfer fees anyway. Don't know much about Granero and Garay.

If Real really plan to finance their new arrivals through sales they'll need to put up for sale some top quality like Kaka and hope for City to bite the bait and splash the fortune.
Obviously Mourinho is not there yet so he has not axed anyone. However, Florentino Perez is the man with the final word at Real Madrid.

They sold players for over €70, probably close to or just over €80m when you include Heinze, Saviola (€5m), M. Torres, Parejo, Telbar, Bueno, Codina, van Nistelrooy whom were all undisclosed, some free however they stopped paying their wages. The big ones were Wesley Sneijder, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Alvaro Negredo all left for €15m and Arjen Robben departed for €25m. Apart from Alvaro Negredo whom were their own academy player and bought back for only, all of these left for far less than they were signed for - and probably less than their real value. Based on their performances this season, Sneijder and Robben could easily been far more expensive. Negredo has been brilliant at Sevilla, while Huntelaar can definably get better for AC Milan. - but for that price I think it is fair to claim all these four were bargains.

What I am trying to say, is despite of them spending over a quarter billion Euros (about the value of Liverpool football club :p) They actually sold for more than most big clubs spent, they sold for a lot even though it was not more about 30% of what they spent. But again that is quite a bit. Even though they sold good players cheap, it generated a lot of money - they need that cash. If we would spend €80m this summer, we would consider that a big spending summer if we did something like that. And I am pretty sure that Real Madrid will excess the €100m mark, perhaps the €200m mark yet again this season. They will have to sell a couple of big names, and van der Vaart are likely to be one of them, regardless of what Mourinho wants… There are almost only big names in Real Madrid, and they will have to sell some big names. Based on their spending philosophy they end up fecking up, they are the masters of bad sales aren't they? Clarence Seedorf, Luis Enrique, Claudio Makalele are a few examples. But they way they operates – signing “Galacticos” they have to sell. When you transfer-list players, whom not are intended to play in the first XI they are not as expensive as players being vital to a team. Fernando Torres was for sale at Atletico Madrid so he went to Liverpool for about £20m (+ Luis Garcia for almost nothing), Berbatov was not for sale in Tottenham so he cost £32m. It might say something of the differences in price you can demand for a player that is transfer-listed and someone whom is considered not for sale.

FROM SPORT.CO.UK

Real Madrid eagerly anticipate the unveiling of former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho as the new man in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu speculation has already mounted as to which stars the self-styled 'Special One' will axe from his squad. It has been widely touted in the Spanish press that upwards of twelve first team members could leave Los Merengues with the reports alerting Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring developments at the Bernabeu. Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is also thought to be ready to pounce with experienced Madrid legend Raul tipped to help the Lilywhites with their debut Champions League campaign.

The high profile stars who are interesting the Premier League quintet of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City include Karim Benzema, Fernando Gago, Lassana Diarra, Rafael Van de Vaart and in-form Argentinean striker Gonzalo Higuain. Spurs are looking at the aforementioned Raul while veterans Jerzy Dudek and Guti are likely to be surplus to requirements under the the new stric era of Portuguese rule.

Fringe players Royston Drenthe, Ezequiel Garay, and Esteban Granero are also likely to be made available this summer. Defensive midfielder Mahamadou Diarra has struggled with injuries in the last year and the Malian could be another who is sacrificed in the window by Mourinho.
Manchester City are already confirmed admirers of Higuain and Gago, while Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the Argentine, whose talks over a new contract have reportedly broken down with the club's hierarchy.
Former Pompey, Arsenal and Chelsea star Diarra has been linked recently with a move back to the Gunners as well as Old Trafford, while Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he was interested in signing French forward Karim Benzema.
Arsenal's Dutch star Robn Van Persie last week called for Arsene Wenger to sign his friend and team mate Rafael Van de Vaart, while the midfielder himself confirmed that he weighed up a move to the Emirates in January after hearing of interest from the French coach.

The media in Spain suggest Mourinho is set to tear up the Galactico blueprint which failed to bring any silverware this season, and is eager to bring his own stars to the club with former Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole reported targets. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is another English star rumoured to be on the shopping list after the dynamic attacking midfielder nearly signed for Mourinho in 2005.

Sky Sports | Football | Primera Division | News | Real rule out Higuain sale

Was waiting for this one. I am sure Real Madrid will sell plenty of players. But Higuain whom has been their top scorer for two years in a row at the age of 22 will probably stay put.
"He is under contract for three more years and has been a key man this season, he is not transferable," Valdano told Marca.

With the arrival of Jose Mourinho apparently imminent following the sacking of Manuel Pellegrini, attention is already turning to who the 'Special One' might want to bring in this summer.

Valdano admits it is unlikely to be a striker, adding: "We do not need more forwards, we scored 102 goals this season and Benzema didn't play much.

"Next season Karim is like a new signing."
That shows they are likely to keep both..

If Barca get Cesc and Real manage to get Cole/Lampard/insert other decent Chelsea player then our squad will have been improved relative to our nearest rivals, sorry for pointing out the obvious but it seems that Spanish football could actually do united a favour this year!

True, but if Chelsea lose those players they're going to do all they can the replace them with other talents.

Plus the CL is going to that bit tougher with the big two in Spain going all out in the transfer window.

The thing is that the two best left-backs in the world are Evra and Cole by some distance, any other player would mean weakening their squad. You're absolutely right about the CL of course, there's no doubt Real will be a force next season.

Well, I am sure Mourinho will get some tactical freedom. At Porto, at Chelsea, and at Internazionale there has been always been something in common. Mourinho has always preferred physical forwards like McCarthy, Drogba, Crespo, Zlatan, Milito and so on, Mourinho will sign a new forward, and that should mean that someone has to go.

Higuain has made a solid contribution to those 102 goals, Benzema has not really done that the same way. And keeping Higuain just makes sense, he is a perfect man for a winger in that 4-3-3 Mourinho seems to prefer - Benzema is probably not a perfect man for Mourinho's tactics. In order to get the players that Mourinho wants, and I am sure he wants to get quite a few - changes to fit the tactics he prefers. They sold several players ahead of this season, as I mentioned in a earlier post about €80m - They sold Huntelaar to get Benzema. Sneijder for Kaka, and Robben for Ronaldo? Dropping Sneijder last season made no sense what so ever. He had one amazing season being the key man to winning the league in 2008, and completing that year by being one of the best players in the EUROs that summer. A year later - they throw him out for only €15m based on one "bad" season. If they sell Benzema now, they can probably hope to collect €30m. If he has one more season like this one... He will end up worth nothing like Sneijder won't he?

They sold for around €80m last season, that was far less then they wanted to sell for. If they are to sell Benzema it is to be now while he is worth something. He kind of went from being the "new French supertstar" to being left out of the world cup didn't he? In that list, I am pretty sure that Higuain will be not for sale. Everyone else on that list I think is rather plausible.

When Real want to buy someone they always do.
