This is the way I'm thinking on it at the moment. I hear what Mocks and a few other posters are saying but this seems to be quite a new and extremely efficient approach to causing trouble. I don't think for a second that those who were involved will have a re-think or a change of heard and so I don't know what will stop them from repeat attacks.
They've managed to shut the feckin city down for God sakes. They've done a better job than the last bleedin snow fall !

I read earlier on twitter that the police are suggesting that people get off the streets by 7PM. If that is true (it may not be given how much shit has been spouted on twitter) then it suggests a massive operation tonight with this 16,000 strong police force.
What does that mean? Will they go in heavy handed, or be passive and just try and deter the violence with the numbers game. I would like to think that tonight they clean up the mess and really take it to the rioting cnuts, but hearing what Theresa May said earlier about not using the water cannons gives me little hope.
Maybe they will just go for a massive kettling operation?

What happened to you sounded horrible Kinks, I'm sure it's shaken you up. But you were very unlucky, not targeted.. And look, I could be completely wrong, it could all get demonstrably worse and i'll look pretty silly, but theres no real politics behind this. It isn't the arab spring. They're looting shit. I know what a lot of the kids around here are like, and (IMO) their motivation isn't sticking it to the man, that's merely an excuse that sounds plausible for a bit of smash & grab and uneducated release of unfocused anger....Once people start getting arrested and communities start saying enough (like those Turks did last night, and my ends did with the clean up - which was also a bit of a demonstration - today) and when support for the police grows (which it's already doing dramatically, taking huge focus off the Duggen enquiry) they'll leave off.....The Police will be out in force tonight and progressively throughout other cities over the coming days, and it'll die down and then there'll be a bit social post mortem...

Reports that in my local town, Maidstone, the KFC is in flames. Apparently this is due to a Chip Pan fire however.
Well the fact that the police have stood off in the last few days is largely down to the fact that there are a lot of high profile criticisms of Police brutality, overly aggressive tactics, or (as in the duggen case) possible murder...The public weren't behind the police...Now, they are. The looters have managed to basically feck up their one safe guard, which is the sympathy of liberal society to the abuse of the underclass....Now, the instinct reaction of most people is "Sort this shit out" with talk of rubber bullets, water cannons etc....If that comes to pass, there's no chance this will continue every summer. They won't chance this. No ones behind them and they aren't doing it to make a political point/destroy society...They're doing it, in their own words "To get free stuff"

Though incidentally I do think there are several socio and economic factors at the very root of this, and I think this kind of thing has been coming for a while in London. There are certain things I do agree with Howe on. There'll be a post mortem over this no doubt. But I don't agree that this is an uprising of the black youth because of the actions of the police...It's overwhelmingly opportunism with that used as an excuse..I've met a few rioters in the last couple days...it's "bre's having bare joke init".
