Fergie's up in Glasgow for Sean Fallon's funeral today, not just to scout any particular player.

I'd probably prefer we signed Barkley even though Wanyama is a couple of years ahead of him in his development. I know Barkley plays probably further ahead than Wanyama in midfield but he get 30 minutes here and there for a season or two. I wouldn't say no at all to Wanyama though! He looks like he could make the grade and has the right attitude

We need someone to play the deeper role. Right now, it's only Carrick with rest makeshift.

Cleverley plays a similar role to Barkley and so will Powell. And Ando is best in that role too.

Either we need a quality box to box Mid or a Carrick type DLP/DM.

We need someone who can play, with a bit of bite, like Fletcher in his pomp. We've had such bad luck in central midfield. Between Hargreaves, Fletcher, Anderson & Pogba you really hope we can turn a corner somewhere soon with what we've been missing.

I think over the past few years, Fergie has been trying to balance giving those players time to come around with their respective issues and being tempted to buy someone because we've needed someone in there so badly at times. What Fergie has though, that fans generally lack is patience with various things such injuries and young players maturing/developing.

It's a huge reason why he's been so successful over the years. It's why he may have the last laugh if David de Gea turns into a world beater down the line if/when he overcomes the weaknesses in his game.... yet there are fans calling for us to buy the likes of Mignolet!

Basically Wanyama would have been doing the same job and playing instead of Jones at Spurs. I guess that's why we need another midfielder, we have been forced to play Jones there in certain games due to Anderson's injury woes and the lack of Fletcher. No other midfielder gives us that bite.

I didn't realize how young he was. I haven't seen him consistently so I'm not going to comment on how good he is but was he the one who played quite well against Barcelona?!

He seems a completely different player to what we have though, which SAF likes as it allows him to try different systems.

I haven't been following the rumors, is he meant to be a target for January or the Summer?

Yeah I didn't realize his age either he's only 21. Only seen him play 3-4 times but he stood out from the other Celtic players he looks like a decent prospect.

SG: Besides Celtic what team do you follow week in and week out?
VW: Very easy, Man United

Sign him up!

Manchester United are believed to be weighing up a £10million bid for Victor Wanyama after manager Sir Alex Ferguson personally scouted him this week.

United boss Ferguson was pictured watching Wanyama during Celtic’s 4-0 demolition of Dundee United on Tuesday night, in which the Kenyan midfielder got the Bhoys’ second goal.

The strike capped off a fine performance from Wanyama, who is considered one of the best young holding midfielders around, and has previously attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

However, it appears that United are now ready to try and land the 21-year-old this month, with Ferguson suitably impressed with his showing this week.

It’s thought that Celtic want up to £15million to part with Wanyama, who cost them just £900,000 from Belgian club Beerschot last summer.

United are said to only be willing to part with £10million, but could throw in a loan deal for midfielder Nick Powell to help seal a potential deal.

Elsewhere, United also expect to tie up a £12million deal for Wilfried Zaha this week, with talks progressing over a transfer with Crystal Palace in the last 48 hours.

After watching this guy only a handful of times and scouting him via youtube:angel: I reckon he's the missing link in the squad. A powerful ball winner who has a decent passing range and great engine. He's also very useful in the air.
If a choice has to be made between him an Zaha I'd go for this guy every time.
feck me he's only 21:eek: I thought he was closer to 30.

According to wiki Mariga and Wanyama have two more brothers who play professionally in Kenya and a sister who is a pro basketballer. Their father was also a pro footballer.

Sign them all up I say.

How cool would it be? We can then dream of a team of Wanyamas and it could actually happen.

Makes too much sense. Strong, young, talented United fan playing in a position we need re-enforcing.

Never going to happen.

I approve of this very much. Yes it's a risk, yes he is still rough around the edges. But he certainly has a chance.

Don't see it happening in January though.

If we really want him there shouldn't be much competition but we'll obviously have to wait until Summer, Celtic have a CL campaign and won't want to lose him before Juventus tie.

Would love to see him here. Would give that iron that our midfield misses, and yet still add some technicality and goal threat.

£15m should do the job, and him being a United fan (assuming that interview is legit) he could be the heart of our midfield for years and years to come.

It's a bit hard to judge him from the youtube clips as it always feels like Celtic are playing Fifa on beginners mode.
Yes, but he was also solid against Barcelona and Benfica from what I gather.

He's also been mentioned as a possible loanee to Palace to sweeten the Zaha deal. Yes, they do just throw these things around.

Does he enough ball skills to be successful regularly in a United midfield two? I have my doubts from the bits I have seen of him.
My impression is that he's good at carrying the ball, but questions remain over his ability to pass the ball to the elevated standards expected at United.

They're putting two and two together, Powell is young and pretty good but won't play much at United due to competition so he'll most certainly be loaned out, possibly the very next season or even in this window. He'll probably end up going to a completely different club than the ones they've kept linking him with.

We should loan him out as part of both deals. He'd get twice the experience playing for Palace and Celtic.

How good a barometer is the Scottish League, though?

Against Barca it was all hands to the pump, backs against the wall defending.

How well suited is he to the pace and speed with which United normally play?

Thats why we have scouts who can assess how he would adapt to our team. If we took that view all the time, we may never have bought Ronaldo, RVN, Evra or Vidic as 4 examples of players who played in inferior leagues and were unproven at the really top level..... maybe thats a bit unfair on RVN but the rest definitely.

brilliant

i always have reservations when we are linked with africans and south americans. call it racism or what ever you want but the majority of african / south american footballers tend to be greedy, tell the press how they adore united / barca / real, agent driven, poor attitude, try when they feel like it and another major one.......there always going to the african cup of nations / copa america / olympics / confederations cup etc etc and you can basically right them off after and international weekend coz they get back late friday from a 12 hour flight.
