A proper winger, a top class CB would go a long way for me. I'd be up for our kids filling in at RB and LB when required. Mensah and CBJ have more than shown themselves worthy of a squad place.

Hopefully we are going to be shipping out the number mentioned in the Telegraph article today, plus a couple more. I'd like to see Fosu-Mensah, Pereira and Tuanzebe intergrated deeper into the squad next season, but ideally we'd get 5 in across January and the summer, with 3 priorities.

Priority
CB - Laporte/van Dijk/Sule/Manolas
#6 - Weigl/Paredes/Neves
Striker - Aubameyang/Icardi/Andre Silva

Squad Depth
RB - Cancelo/Cedric/Mario/Sidibe/Henrichs
Winger - ????

Just been called up by Löw.
Nice, I'm guessing he'll be used at LB.

I like the way Klopp waited to get the right players in.....

I think it's important Jose and the fans are patient and get the right player rather than panicking in January

this year could be very uncomfortable.....we might be a laughing stock for spells - the important thing is we make the right decisions that will get us to where we want to be in 2/3 years......

It's hard to imagine too many of our primary targets being available in January but next August I'd like to see

----------------------------------------De Gea---------------------------------------------
New RB--------------New CB-----------------------Bailly------------a fit and firing Shaw
---------------------Deep Playmaker------------Pogba------------------------------------
Mhiki or WC winger/RAM--------------WC Playmaker----------------------------WC LAM
---------------------------------Martial/Rashford rotating---------------------------------

Ideally I'd like to see this as a first 11....think we need genuine world class talent in wide and attacking areas and Rashford and Martial need to be moved to sharing 9. Not sure what will happen with Mhiki but we need to replace unproductive limited players like Young/Lingard/Memphis/Januzaj with players who are going to terrorise defences with pace, movement and skill. Maybe one/two of them can survive as squad back up. A lot of the current players like Valencia, Herrera, Mata, Smalling, Blind and some of the above & youth to make up the squad. Hoping to see Fosu-Mensah and Tuanzebe progress as well as Periera if his progress continues.

I'd sign the 5 above but I'd also consider buying a specialist midfield player who can defend and protect as well as pass the ball....

so maybe 5/6 in and Rooney, Ibra, Schneiderlein, Carrick, Jones, Young, Memphis, Fellaini and Sweinsteiger out

4 Key areas for me:

RB, CB, Carrick replacement and a striker. However for the striker there's only a point of buying one, if we can get a top striker. Otherwise for potential we can bank on Martial/Rashford.

If we are to buy a centre back I would much prefer a leader at the back who can organise the defence. We need more experience in this team in my opinion.

In addition, realistically there probably won't be much movement in January.

Adama Traore anyone?

He is what we thought Memphis would be, a Fast, Skillful, Powerful, attacking force on the wing. Everytime I have seen him play he looks exciting and willing to burst forward at every given chance. His energy levels are right up there with some of the best, always running up until the final whistle with his stupidly quick speed. Although speedy, he is a bit of a beast, he is powerful and uses his body well against defenders, Google him and you will see his size. His passing and awareness is quite good, I think that comes from being an ex Barca academy player. I think he will become a top player for a top 4 side

All in all I'd like him to join us, yes he is no the finnished article but he has shown this season and last at Villa in his cameos, that he is currently better than Memphis and all our right wingers. We lack the directness and attacking vibe he gives.

This is probably Mourinho's strongest 11 right now. I would say that we can improve on the right back, left centre back, right central midfield and number 10 positions. For now we must continue with Blind, Fellaini, Valencia and Rooney although I expect those four new players to be added over the next few transfer windows. We may also need a starting number 9 in two years but that depends on how Rashford continues to progress. The remaining seven players are as good as any in world football in their positions.
The world live in when fans include Fellaini and Rooney in strongest eleven while Herrera and Mata sits on the bench.

Maybe we should try getting Hernandez back in January, with the number of chances we're creating and then squandering. Though I don't think he'd want to come back.

I might be over estimating things or being overly optimisitic, and I do think another RB and winger are needed for the squad, but I see a core 11 developing nicely with 3 signings to upgrade and complete a well balanced first 11. We will hopefully also see Pereira and TFM intergrated further into the senior squad over the next 18 months.

This is pretty much my thinking.

Blind can deputise for the second CB until we can find someone better, and Valencia will be 31 by the time we can really get close to a settled team.
DM is going to be hardest to find. Who out there can we find to set the pace of the game and distribute the ball effectively, letting Pogba roam freely and Herrera act the busybody.
CF should be a bit easier I hope. We mostly need someone quick who will make the runs in behind the defence and keep the game stretched in our favour. Icardi would be my pick of the bigger names.

That was at the start of the season. Obviously things are a lot different now.

De Gea
RB - Bailly - CB - Shaw
CDM
Herrera/Mata - Pogba
Mkhitaryan - Zlatan/CF - Martial/Rashford
We need a centre back, right back, central defensive midfielder and striker.

Ricardo Rodriguez, William carvalho, Virgil van dijk, moussa dembele and Arjen robben

Out - schweinsteiger, depay, rojo

Get rid of miki again if he genuinely isn't up for it. No point dragging it out like di Maria

I don't remember much of him from last season, but I've been really impressed with him so far this year. That pass he provided for one of the Boro chances against City was great. Only one moment, but it looks like he has more to his game than just dribble and shoot.

20 years only too, I'd definitely take a stab.
The Arsenal and Spurs games were also impressive as neither could handle his power and pace or stamina.

Arsenal game

Spurs game when he came on as a sub

Traore. Reminds me of Sadio Mané, exactly the kind of player we need on the right wing.

We must buy asap otherwise some other club will.

All you posters wondering when we are going to sign the next wonder kid can relax.

I reckon 0ur January signing will be payet.

Am I excited? Not really but I reckon he would fit in to Jose's preferential player types & getting the best 0ut 0f Zlatan.

I don't think we need a CB in January. The big problem for me is that bailly had started on the right hand side when he should be playing 0n the left. He is more nimble & dexterous than smalling is.

In the summer maybe but not jn January.

Bit random, we struggle to play Mata, Rooney and Mkhitaryan adding another 10....

Prefer Mahrez if we're going for a 'in his prime' type player

Edit: saying that I wouldn't say no to him joining us, just would be abit random as there are other key areas we need to improve on first

Build on:

Martial Zlatan Mickey
Pogba Ander
Carrick
Shaw Blind Bailly Vale
DdG

A successor to Carrick is priority #1, hopefully we will sign Weigl.

A new CB, with good passing ability and a calm head, van Dijk seem ideal.

A new RB, Cancelo is a good shout.

Let's see how Zlatan does for the rest of the season, but i think we will need a new striker. Aubameyang would be very nice.

-----

Our team would look like this:

Martial Auba Mickey
Pogba Ander
Weigl
Shaw vDijk Bailly Joao
DdG

Top class experienced CB and I think a lot of the other problems in the team will sort themselves. Our midfielders spend far too much time covering for our poor defence.

Think from Griezmanns quotes he sounds like he'd be open to a move, and Woodward loves to splash the cash.

Looks like Mkhi won't work out here under Jose so we'd need a right winger.

I know we have never been linked but Adama Traore looks like a typical 'United' winger. Every performance iv seen him in this season (vs the big clubs) was pretty much amazing, his latest against City was like he was trying to prove a point that he deserves to be in a top 4 club, see for yourself, I'd drop £20m-£25m on him easy.

Not sure another big squad change is suitable, might be better to phase it over 2 summers. Team needs time to adjust to the system, constant substantial team change is going to do more harm than good and fans will want half the squad sold and a dozen more players brought after next summer again.

In terms of what I think should be the priority in summer.
Replacement for Carrick. Although not sure if Mourinho will persist with the pivot or go with a 4-3-3.
An experienced CB with leadership qualities. Not some youngster with potential, this team needs a leader, whether hes 25 or 32.
Bailly + New cb Sell Rojo + Jones unless Jones somehow manages to go a month without getting injured.
Blind / Smalling as backup options. With Tuanzebe & Fosuh given chances aswell. Fosuh should also be given chances at RB & CDM. With Blind given a chance at CDM & cover for LB.

I think Utd need a very pacey winger that can cross. Mhiki deserves a chance, can't believe some are already writing him off when you consider he was in a very similar situation at Dortmund.

Biggest priority is an experienced leader at the back.

CB+Carrick Replacement + Winger.
That in my opinion is enough for next summer.
In terms of other weaknesses, this should be assessed further into the season. Bare in mind this team is a bit inconsistent at the moment, with no clear system or team unity.

Right back isn't urgent in my opinion.
Darmian deserves one last chance & Valencia has been good enough so far, Fosuh Mensah can also play there.

I've been very impressed every time I've seen him play too, his pace is phenomenal, add some end product to his game he could have a great career.
