They can't really ask for much considering the circumstances. He'll be 32 in 5 months and they're trying to move him on as he doesn't fit Conte's formation.

Perhaps Ole is thinking that we won't get Sancho this summer (108m is really too much in this climate of uncertainty), wait till we can get him rather than compromise (hopefully when the financial situation is better post-covid in January / next summer), and play with 2 up top in most games with a diamond in midfield with Fred/Matic holding, Pogba/VdB box-to-box and Fernandes at the apex. I know folks say our fullbacks are not geared for that, but I think Shaw is good in attack while AWB's game can be developed - we started seeing his improved attacking abilities in the second half of the season with more crosses in and assists although it tapered off at the end when he was clearly knackered after 60 games in only his second season in the top flight. Add Reguilon to challenge / cover for Shaw while Williams can back AWB up on the right - as a right-footer he can go out wide and cross in.
The two up top would be Martial and Rashford, with Greenwood and Ighalo covering. I'd rather this than Martial, Rashford and Greenwood played every game and getting exhausted.
If we get Thiago as well, and we keep our current midfield, I would be more convinced this could be the case. Of course, Ole will always have the option to play 4-2-3-1 in some games with Greenwood on the right.

Yeah a loan deal is the way to go if we are unable to sort out a deal for Sancho

Traore would probably cost 50-60+, not sure if he is worth it. I always thought Sancho this window then going big on a Matic replacement or CB next summer. With Sancho looking unlikely I agree a loan would be wise or a young less heralded RW that could split time with Mason. Regardless we need someone else, even if Mason is the starter Mata, Pereira and Lingard have shown they aren't the quality we need on the right to back him up or allow him to get more time centrally. I think Sarr could be worth a shot.
Crazy! They wanted 50m and we wouldn't go above 45m, it fell through on a 5m difference. He is a very good player still, but he is on the way down, definitely a good squad player for us.

Is everyone still against Zaha. I totally dismissed it but started thinking it might be a clever buy. If he Palace wanted 70 last year I reckon they will take 60 post covid. If we have a 25 percent clause we could get him for 45. Prem proven, can play across the front 3, suits our style of play and will get at least 10 goals, 5 assists I reckon. He would be miles better than bringing in James if Rashford is injured and can rotate with Greenwood on the right. Heck I think he has even played up front hasnt he? Gives us loads of options. Plus he wants out badly and I cant see any other team that would be in for him.. Arsenal bought Pepe and I don't think Spurs or Everton have the cash. It would be like Cities Mahrez signing and that turned out well for them.

'At least 10 goals' is a bold call considering he scored 10 exactly once in his career and that was when being the main man at his club, not a rotation option.

I agree. My only thought is maybe we want a more traditional winger to provide width. Isn't Zaha more of the same? Someone that drifts inside? Having said that the attack would create havoc, if not miss quite a lot of opportunities.
Why? Surely it applies to us as well so no other bidders are needed. If they sell for 60 we get a 15mil reduction. If they sell for 40, we only get 10mill reduction but he is still cheaper.

Ousmane Dembele loan looks a very appealing deal potentially.
Dembele would cost 15-20m to loan and seems to only be available on a guaranteed to buy deal. He would cost us 80m+
Look, 50-60m is half a Sancho. That's not cheap. I'd rather not waste that money on a mediocre squad player, especially in this current climate. I'd rather save that money for next summer to pay what Dortmund want. Paying a lot for mediocre players "just to get someone in" is part of why we're in the mess we're in. The likes of Zaha and Traore will not bridge the gap to the top teams and as such, they're way too expensive.

This. Any alternative to Sancho would cost 50-60m and would really not be worth it. If we cannot see the value of Sancho at £108m then the same principles should apply to Zaha at £60m. I would rather secure other areas of the pitch than spend money on Zaha.
Spending £50-60m on a winger this summer means again next summer we will be short of funds with other areas of the pitch needing to be addressed. If we cannot get Sancho lets just try and get a loan winger and get a CB and LB so next summer we can spend on Sancho

Think about it. If Palace don't want to sell for the discounted price, (because they've decided internally that it's not enough) they can just raise the fee to 80 and say we'll give you a "discount".
Its not 50-60 because we have a 25% clause. That makes it 45ish. I agree on getting Sancho but this thread says whats the option if we dont. If Dortmund or his agent or whoever are asking beyond reasonable fees then we should have a plan B. There is fairly good reasoning to getting a few cheaper players. Upamecano 50m + Zaha 45 + Thiago 25m is only around 12 mill more than Sancho.
Rashford - Martial - Greenwood is already quite devastating. Rashford - Martial - Zaha or Zaha - Martial - Greenwood would also be a very good front 3. The pace and direct running from all 3 would be devastating. Fernandes will get about a million pens. :-) Much better than James - Martial - Greenwood or Rashford - Martial - James/Mata
I am banking in the fact that he will go for 60 mill and we get a 25percent discount though. I would think differently paying 60/70 mill. But if its possible to get him for 45 I think thats a bargain and I cant see who would be better at that price except a loan but the likes of Bale and Dembele with thier wages arnt exactly cheap and come with their own baggage

Not happening, Barca can't afford to lose too much, most loans attract a fee of 10-20m, and the unofficial feedback is that Barca would only consider a loan with a requirement to buy at the end. Barca will want at least 70-80m for Dembele.
How many games has Zaha played on the right in the last 3 seasons? We need a RW, not a LW/CF who can also play RW.

The thread doesnt necessarily say what player should we get, just what we can do, which is fix other problems and get a loan player for this summer is what I would do.

In this post I was proven to be incorrect when I predicted it was only a matter of time before Edwards was introduced in the starting berth for Spurs. Pochettino would reveal how he was disappointed by his attitude, and mentality. As illustrated below:

However, it seems like going out of his comfort zone (currently plays in Portugal for Vitória S.C) has brought some much needed maturity.
One area which Marcus Edwards has matured in his game is his eagerness to receive the ball.
The above is from a game against Benfica this season.
Here he receives the ball by the touchline, and his immediate reaction is to pick out his teammates, as opposed to dribbling with his head down in an attempt to do it all by himself. This has been a criticism of him in the past. To digress for a brief moment, it was very recently when Daniel James received criticism for playing with tunnel vision against Man City, going for goal when Bruno Fernandes was in a better position.
I particularly liked this moment against Benfica. Nice vision here, tantalisingly close. It was put to a halt as the keeper came out. But the idea was good.

It was an encounter where Vitória S.C. put in an admirable performances. Not a one sided affair by any stretches of the imagination. Without mentioning the instances of the pictures above, there was a moment of individual brilliance with a dribble in a tightly congested area. In terms of position, he was consistently situated in dangerous areas. Sometimes he was offering himself as an outlet by staying wide and providing width, other times he was finding himself in between Taarabt and Pires, other times positioned by the half spaces.
Porto:
So apart from the defence splitting pass which is in an image above, he had other noteworthy moments.The game against Porto offered a different dynamic to the one against Benfica, as Porto were very dominant. In any case, Edwards had a shot cleared off the line, with the keeper beaten. In the latter stages of the game he almost got a pre-assist,

Scored against Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt.
There was another moment against Arsenal I liked .... a flee footed dribble which started from his own half and ended by him advancing to the opposing box at a very high pace.
Areas he can improve
Sometimes he can be a bit soft. There was a moment against Benfica where Taarabt barely touched him, and he was on the floor. He did win a free kick, but I felt it was soft myself. Additionally, he's one footed, I remember him shifting his body to do an outside of the boot pass with his dominant left footed, instead of the much simpler option with just using his right foot. In the dying stages of the game against Porto, he did a fantastic job of trapping the ball dead, beat a player from that standing position, and then he spoiled it by attempting another a dribble. A dribble which wasn't neccessary, even if it was successful. The moment needed a desperate shot, or a last ditch pass. On that note, I'd like to see him shoot more.
How difficult would it be to get him?
He has a £13.6 million release clause to my knowledge. Potentially great from his perspective too, as I spotted numerous occasions where he was let down by his teammates.
