Who replaces Ten Hag?

The trouble is, at the moment we are seen as project. It makes it very hard to get someone who is currently top and winning. It puts us in that zone, which fits in with our manager signings, where we are either getting manager on their way up (or at least perceived) or on their way down.

But Alonso would fail your first point " 1. Managers who are showing potentials but has yet to win nothing "
True on Alonso. Somehow I just like the guy but yah....i feel we need to get someone who is more established and at his peak.

Project is how some would like to call it, but I would call Wrexham a project. We are definitely more than that. Anyway, let's see if the new management will keep ETH or bring in someone new. Maybe they might just be able to pull off something again before the media catch wind of anything.

This isn't a source or rumor but it's just logical, and I'm all for it. Can definitely see a scenario we go for de Zerbi and think it'd be the right appointment given how well he's implemented his system at Brighton.

Wooo boy are we going places with this new structure. Sir Jim is like Thanos collecting the infinity stones right now.

Zidane would be of the obvious stature if Ten Hag is fired. He would have the respect of the charlatans in the dressing room. I've become so cynical that I honestly feel he'd look at our squad and say, "Even I can't polish a turd." and it would all go wrong.

I'm just so cynical about it all now -- I would just expect any manager to prove me wrong.

It's the lightning in a bottle of structure/recruitment/manager/squad all aligning at once.

Zidane has repeatedly said he won't manage in England. He is brilliant and I would love to see it, he is my favorite player of all time too, but it won't happen unfortunately.

I'm just not sold on de Zerbi. He's done well at Brighton, but I think the way they're set up they would do well with someone else too. I'm not sure their success is largely down to him. Alonso or Emery for me.

The goal is to have a well set up structure first. And then a manager that lines up with a style of play that suits a big club wanting to win big things (common traits of those clubs are clubs that press high and have very good deep build up structures, and dominate games). We shouldn't be building to be a sit back and absorb pressure team. We have the resources to be a dominant team and that should be the ambition. Therefore you go for a manager who coaches that sort of system.

That rules out Unai Emery. Very good manager, especially for clubs like Villa/Spurs. Not the right manager for what we want to be. De Zerbi has done a great job specifically with his coaching, and has Brighton playing far ahead of the level of their actual players, purely based on his tactics. Yes they recruit well, but the performance as a team far exceeds their talent level, and it's built off of a cohesive high press, and as Pep loves to tell everyone, they have the best build up structure around.

Xabi Alonso i can't say how his coaching style is, but what I'm pretty confident in saying is that he's not going to United and he'll wait for Bayern, Liverpool or Real Madrid.

The bookies currently have Graham Potter favorite @ 7/2

1. Graham Potter 7/2

2. Julen Lopetegui 15/2

3. Roberto De Zerbi 14/1
Ruben Amorim 14/1
Xabi Alonso 14/1
Unai Emery 14/1

4. Hansi Flick 16/1

That's all very fair, but I guess I'd like to see de Zerbi at another club to see how he does. If we're talking about replacing ETH in the summer (which I'm not sure we should) then whoever comes in needs to be able to hit the ground running. The structure that exists around De Zerbi will not be in place at United by then, at least not entirely, so I think a different profile of coach might be better.

Unfortunately, I reckon you're right about Alonso - although United is still a massively prestigious job in spite of our shambles, so you never know.

De Zerbi did great with Sassuolo and Shakhtar as well, I've seen a few people talk as if Brighton is his first good job and he's only doing well because of Brightons structure.

Rigobert Song.
Has that clown Onana's card marked after two calamity games, more than can be said for Hag and his blind loyalty to unacceptabliliy.

I really hope Flick has a much higher chance than that. It's unwise to go for another unproven manager like Potter or De Zerbi after having two massive gambles (Ole & ETH) being failures.

I’m unsure about de Zerbi but I think De Zerbi is more experienced than Flick. As mentioned he did wel at Sassuolo and Shakhtar as well. Flick only performed at Bayern for a short period.

I know you're joking but jesus...

Haha pinch of salt indeed.

I don't see who we'd get in place of Hag at the minute, but I do think his signings will be his downfall. Anthony for £90 is ridiculous, but sticking so blindly with Onana is unforgivable!

Yes he's doing an amazing job, one place and one point below us, FFS he's not the man, neither is Potter
Now 1 place above us… they’ve spent nowhere near what we have. I agree that potter isn’t. As we’ve seen him at a bigger club… De Zerbi would be a gamble I’d take to be fair.

Given how that list looks, that guy who suggested Jamie Redknapp 10 years ago or so might have been onto something.

Unlike the previous two certainties LVG and Mourinho, who ended up being no better, quite possibly worse, than Solskjaer.

I think United should stop thinking they know how a manager will do and start genuinely interviewing people to see what answers they give. An intelligent Director of Football would have seen through Ten Hag during the interview stage, or refused his set of transfer requests as being ridiculously Eredivisie focused. Likewise, Solskjaer opting to spend heavily on Maguire and Wan-Bissaka is the sort of discussion that should have taken place before he was given the permanent job.

If the manager prefers continuity of selection then the club need to know at the interview stage. A manager that continually selects the same small group of players isn't unlucky if they get tons of injuries after a World Cup year.

Julian Nagelsmann's contract with Germany ends in the summer, wouldn't rule him out entirely yet.

Unforgivable? The hyperbole surrounding Onana is getting out of hand. He's had a couple of bad games in the Champions League and a few wobbly moments around that. Whatever's happened at AFCON is of no consequence to us.

It's hardly surprising to stick by him when the alternatives are Tom Heaton and some fella none of us had heard of 6 months ago. Onana was playing for Inter in the Champions League final last season. He's comfortably the most accomplished of the three goalkeepers.

Nagelsmann after the Euros is probably the stand out candidate for me if INEOS get the right structure in place.

Will also be a little bit of continuity in that he'll be able to continue some of the work with pressing that Ten Hag has tried but failed to implement consistently.

Inter Milan goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has earned himself the golden glove of the just-ended UEFA Champions League for being an outstanding keeper throughout the competition this season, despite his side’s 0-1 defeat to Manchester City in the final.

The 27-year-old Cameroonian finished the competition with the most clean sheets (8) in 13 games and equally made the most number of saves in the competition to earn the best keeper of the Champions League. Yeah folk were dead against getting him in the summer from memory, not.

Agreed. So many captain hindsights and revisionists on here. The only incoming transfer that peeved a large minority of fans on here was the Mount one.

For these people saying Alonso, he's an ex pool scum. Doubt he'd agree to come here. More likely a Klopp replacement.
Matt Busby was an "ex pool scum" and also played for City, he turned out OK but replacing Klopp at some point is more than likely IMO

From the ones mentioned Emery is the best fit for what we need right now. He has demonstrated that he can lead rebuilds with limited budget - which is what we have to do for the next 3-5 years, until we sort our finances

Stat peddling means nothing. Let's not forget that the keeper we had won the golden glove in the PL last season, yet was deemed not good enough.

What I know about Onana is what I've watched week in week out from the Stretford end. A calamity in waiting that's as ineffective with his feet as he is with his hands. The entire stadium feels the nerves every time the ball is near him and his fabled passing ability is yet to be demonstrated at Utd. John O"Shea was more composed between the posts.

Getting back to the thread topic, I made the flippant comment that Song could replace Hag, but I'm dead serious when I say any other goalkeeper in the football league could replace Onana, he's the rock upon which ETH's Utd career will perish and if Braislford & Co mean business, he'll be handed back his magic gloves and sent packing back to Milan quick smart.

So what? How does a clean sheet for Inter last season help United or Cameroon today? It doesn't. It shows that Onana potentially can play much better, but he doesn't right now. So he is benched for Cameroon who don't have a full season but a short tournament and need to play the best right now and don't have time to "play him into form" or whatever.

Same applies to a manager. How does a great CL run with Ajax help United now? It doesn't, if he isn't performing right now with Manchester he needs to be replaced by someone who is able to get something out of this squad as it is right now. Not someone who won something some time ago and lost his mojo, or would never fit United etc.

Now that we’ve proven we can poach City’s top talent, maybe it’s time to go for the one in a billion shot and try to take Micah Richards? Brains and weapons grade bants.

Its weird how desperate some people are to defend players and managers. he has major flaws, which should have been obvious to all (other than ETH who oversaw his development). The champions league is a strange animal and teams/ players can look much better for periods, just look at Galatasaray. It needs to be repeated, he was available on a free the summer before last. ETH and the recruitment team cannot fail to have known that, just as it was 100% clear that DDG was fading and could never be comfortable with the ball. Sign him on a free, good deal and less pressure. Pay huge fee and wages, very bad deal

Have you Sommer's numbers this season? Inter are one of the best teams in the world defensively. Onana was facing 3 shots per game and letting 1 in, he's now facing 5 and letting 2 in.

No it doesn't Onana signed a pre-contract with Inter earlier that year when United weren't particularly in the market for a goalkeeper

De Zerbi would be the obvious logical option. Amorim and Miguel are very interesting. Potter would be disappointing.
