True on Alonso. Somehow I just like the guy but yah....i feel we need to get someone who is more established and at his peak.The trouble is, at the moment we are seen as project. It makes it very hard to get someone who is currently top and winning. It puts us in that zone, which fits in with our manager signings, where we are either getting manager on their way up (or at least perceived) or on their way down.

And then a manager that lines up with a style of play that suits a big club wanting to win big things (common traits of those clubs are clubs that press high and have very good deep build up structures, and dominate games). We shouldn't be building to be a sit back and absorb pressure team. We have the resources to be a dominant team and that should be the ambition. That rules out Unai Emery. Very good manager, especially for clubs like Villa/Spurs. Not the right manager for what we want to be. De Zerbi has done a great job specifically with his coaching, and has Brighton playing far ahead of the level of their actual players, purely based on his tactics. Yes they recruit well, but the performance as a team far exceeds their talent level, and it's built off of a cohesive high press, and as Pep loves to tell everyone, they have the best build up structure around.
Xabi Alonso i can't say how his coaching style is, but what I'm pretty confident in saying is that he's not going to United and he'll wait for Bayern, Liverpool or Real Madrid.

It's hardly surprising to stick by him when the alternatives are Tom Heaton and some fella none of us had heard of 6 months ago. Onana was playing for Inter in the Champions League final last season. He's comfortably the most accomplished of the three goalkeepers.

Its weird how desperate some people are to defend players and managers. he has major flaws, which should have been obvious to all (other than ETH who oversaw his development). The champions league is a strange animal and teams/ players can look much better for periods, just look at Galatasaray. It needs to be repeated, he was available on a free the summer before last. ETH and the recruitment team cannot fail to have known that, just as it was 100% clear that DDG was fading and could never be comfortable with the ball. What I know about Onana is what I've watched week in week out from the Stretford end. A calamity in waiting that's as ineffective with his feet as he is with his hands. The entire stadium feels the nerves every time the ball is near him and his fabled passing ability is yet to be demonstrated at Utd. John O"Shea was more composed between the posts.
Getting back to the thread topic, I made the flippant comment that Song could replace Hag, but I'm dead serious when I say any other goalkeeper in the football league could replace Onana, he's the rock upon which ETH's Utd career will perish and if Braislford & Co mean business, he'll be handed back his magic gloves and sent packing back to Milan quick smart.
