What are you forming this opinion on? Everything they have actually done so far has been positive. Too many pessimistic Peters on this forum.
I just don't have my hopes very high with regards to anything that is happening with our management. Decade of gross mismanagement has got me used to disappointment. I think we are getting overly excited about appointments like Berrada, Ashworth just like we did with Mourinho, Ten Hag and Van Gaal. Maybe they will be great, maybe they will be bad. Let's see.

Everton had Ancelotti as manager. And you're telling me.... we're here with the best football executives, with new ownership and all that, only to end up hiring Southgate? I'm not buying it. It looks like PR to make sure he has a decent job secured after England.

One can only hope. People who I'd prefer to have managing Manchester United next season instead of Gareth Southgate:

Erik ten Hag
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
David Moyes

Don't taze me, bro
Just when I thought the worst is over, we will be back to the square one if we appoint Southgate.

If Southgate is the best SJR and his team can think off I rather stick with ETH. Mind you I wanted him out long ago.

We should be going for the best in class and modern manager like Alonso, Inzaghi, and etc.
The most important part of your comment is the “and etc.” because we all know Alonso isn’t coming and Inzaghi isn’t known to speak English. So then the real question is - who is clearly an improvement, the right fit, and available?

Lot of names around, not many that check all our boxes.

I think EtH should be given some time with the new Ineos structure.

This season has been trying, but we are a game off a cup final and in with a shout for the CL. This with a mammoth injury crisis.

He's not blameless, but when we consider the alternatives there is nothing particularly better emerging.

'Anyone is better than this' is but hyperbole.

Southgate never in a million years, he's the Mason Mount of managers do not want.

Awful for England awful for United.

Should give him the start of next season under the new structure and see how he gets on.

I saw the Telegraph piece that United want the manager role to transition more into a head coach role. With recruitment of players falling to Ashworth/Berrada

In that case what responsibilities will the “head coach” have and how will it differ to previous years?

Muppetiers were saying back in November that they wanted a 'younger coach' and McKenna was one of the names mentioned. They just want someone that focuses solely on the coaching side. Less emphasis on other things like transfers etc.

I wouldn't. I'd give anyone a chance but would be underwhelmed at Southgate.

As I've said previously, it's unlikely that INEOS get every call right the first time. If Southgate doesn't work out then the fans will be on his back quickly and he'll be gone. I'm sure they'd learn their lesson and hopefully put a bit more thought into the next appointment. If you're truly behind their project then you have to accept that they'll get some things wrong.

Nobody could have forseen the horrendous run of injuries weve suffered, many of them long term, so ETHs plans went out the window very early on; but that said hes been let down by other players who though fit have often failed to turn up.

I’ll even prefer Rooney over Southgate. If we want a mediocre English manager, rather go with a club legend.

Both English names too. Wouldn't be surprised if a few more came out like Eddie Howe or the like. To be honest there's not many decent English managers so it's slim pickings

I don’t think Ratcliffe’s going to be fecking around gambling on whether Southgate is good enough. He wants to see some success with the money he’s plowing into United. He’s not a young man.

Personally I think it’s Southgate’s agent doing all this. They‘ve seen that we’ve got new owners/operators and one of the new key men is Ashworth who used to work in the England set up, decided to capitalise on that and that should be the story. Southgate‘s pretty much out of contract after the Euros so it’s a negotiating tactic with England possibly.

If you asked fans of the other 19 PL teams if they’d take him as manager to replace their current manager, I’m fairly sure at least 15 of them will say no.

I get the impression that unless things go horribly wrong till end of ETH is safe.

While it will help his case, I don’t think getting CL or fa cup win will define the decision.

If we have a strong finish in our final 10 league games , it will actually of been a solid half a season since INEOs took over (and more players back from injury).

15 is an optimistic take

If there's any truth to this then as been said it looks bad on Ratcliffe and does cast doubt for the future with him. I don't think Southgate will be our manager but I do think this is more than paper rubbish unfortunately. The sooner he can get all the other appointments in place the better and build a proper long term plan.

Southgate is overrated, I think he is lucky that England has one of the best squad in the world. If he comes to United, I suspect he would setup defensively and play on counterattack. Ole 2.0 where team will rely on individual brilliance to win a game. He would be sack in the 2nd or 3rd season.
