Matic, Pogba, Fred

Who needs upgrading there?
They won't all be fit throughout the season. If I had my way we'd upgrade on Pogba and get another midfielder but il settle for just the latter.

Neves or Seri together Fred would be great.

Matic & Pogba & Fred/Seri /Herrerra

I don't care if there is no marquee signing. As long as we strengthen in the areas we need, particularly on the right. Remember the days when we were capable of unearthing some good talent with fairly low key signings? That would be great but those days seem long gone.

SMS, Douglas Costa, Fred, LB, RB

Against smaller teams,

4-3-3
---- Sanchez ---- Lukaku ---- Douglas Costa ----
--------- Pogba ----------- SMS -------------------
------------------ Matic ----------------------------
-- LB ------- Bailly -------- Smalling ------- RB --

Against bigger teams,
2-4-2-2
----------- Sanchez ----------- Lukaku ------------
------ Pogba ----------------------- SMS -----------
LWB ----- Matic ------------- Fred ---------- RWB
-------------- Bailly ---------- Smalling ------------

Hope it's Bale, was totally against the idea at first but after watching Utd this season and in particular how inconsistent/poor the likes of Martial, Rashford, Lingard & Mata can be i have decided we need a real game changer and someone who can make a difference and put fear into the opposition.
And if he's injured 1/3 of the season that's plenty of game time for the youngins!

He would be a great addition if the price is right .

It's about being logical and practical.

Currently with all available midfielders we have - I would class only Pogba and Matic as good enough. If we want to play a 3 man midfield - we need more quality

Herrera/Fellaini are experienced players who have been here for a while, neither are good enough long term in my opinion.

So based on this, we need to look at using our own young players to give them a chance (like we have with McTominey) or look to sign players. The signing of Fred (if it goes ahead) is a massive plus. I still think we need another player, now all the talk is of us signing Fred + a young emerging talent, for me we don't need to sign a young emerging talent because we have Periera and McTom. We sometimes have the answer to our own problems.

If there was another quality signing to be made in CM, I wouldn't object of course. We need quality around the squad.

Agree with you buddy.

Whilst we may sign a "Big" name or not I think the most important signings will be whoever we get as new leftback and rightbacks.

If they start well and get off to a flyer I predict we will win the league. If they take a while to settle or have issues adapting then we will have another patchy season so should target the champions league.

If we persist with depending on Young and Valencia and sign also rans in these positions, then I think Mourinho will be gone by Christmas for a variety of potential reasons.

I don't think we have had a more critical transition for the club in the last 20 years than what happens in those positions.

We have to face up to the truth now, this not being in the race for the title has gone on too long and if we don't get a grip we will be doing a Liverpool (28 years and counting)
Jose is NOT the man t lead us to a title, his football is dire, boring and doesn't get bums off seats. His very expensive buys have not cut the mustard. Pogba for all his talent and ability just does not deliver, Lukaku for such a big fella is shite in the air and never wants a battle with a centre half 9he should be crushing them to a pulp) Lindeloff is so bad it's hard to believe, Bailly jumps in and sells himself too easily for me and is not United quality, Jones n Smalling n Rojo are very very average players who wouldn't make the 1st team of the top 6 teams.
Shaw has to go (what a waste of money) Sanchez looks so lost I dn;t think he will ever find his way but then again with the money hes on why would he look?
We need to offload 7 or 8 of these underachievers/overhyped prima donnas and bring in fresh young talent.
Who approves all these bad buys? They need sacking!
Why are the scouts not unearthing the diamonds of tomorrow? They need sacking as well.
We are in a turbulent time and so far behind the berties it really is frightening.
Jose out and out NOW!

Hopefully Javier Ribalta is doing a good job behind the scenes.

I hope our big signing could be someone like Thiago Alcantara, we need a top midfielder.

The other option would be a right winger like Dembele.

I don't think we'll do a marquee signing this year.
I think we'll get the full backs, midfielders and CB that we need to make the team function effectively and get our title back.

I think it may depend entirely on the Martial situation.

If he stays, my gut says we’ll pick up 3 or 4 players (defenders + Fred) in the £40-50 mil range. There won’t be anyone coming in for Pogba/Lukaku money.

If he leaves then I think we could go all out for a versatile attacker like Dybala or Griezman, depending on availability.

Wildcard is that moneybags Ed goes all “how do you like these apples” and drops Neymar on deadline day..

We don't need marquee signings, we need to sign the right players in areas which are so weak compared to the rest of the squad.

The reality is spending money does not always guarantee success and the biggest disappointment of Jose reign is his complete 360 degree turn around from his first press conference when he stated unequivocally that he only plays specialists!!
So originally, I was all in for Jose and still have a part of me that wants him to succeed for his sheer bloody mindedness. Woodward, however needs to remind him of those conference pledges;

  • Specialists Footballers in key positions
  • Great Attacking football
  • Giving Youth a Chance
  • Scoring more Goals
  • upholding the ideals of our great Club
  • Changing our Youth Policy
  • Win Trophies
  • Competing in the Champions and Premier League
  • I could also add moving to the area but Jose loves the Lowry and believe me the suite he's in, it not difficult to see why he won't buy in Alderley Edge or Hale.

We can debate Mourinho's success rate on delivering from that first press conference on another thread, but United only need a Marquee player if he's a genuine game changer from the right wing or attacking Midfield position. We certainly should not spend £140M plus on 1 player when there is better value in the Market for the 5 or 6 elite level players!
We need to become a great team again so personally I'm hoping the penny has finally dropped with Mourinho and the board with the following being signed; Fred, Sergej Milinkovavik-Savic, A Sandro or K Tierney, Cancelo or Meunier, D Costa or Leon Bailey or A Talisca and T Auderweild or J Boatang or S Umtitti.

All of those players are specialists and it allows us to keep Martial and Rashford with Sanchez being offered for sale in January if his form does not improve. Pogba has an off day and doesn't play for the team he gets dropped just as he would at Madrid, Bayern or Barcelona!
Lukaku is injured or in poor form, we have the ability to change our style to a more fluid front 3 which we saw glimpses of in Jose first season with Martial or Rashford or Sanchez and a Bailey/Costa interchanging at pace and causing havoc with players like Fred, Pogba and Sergej Milinkovavik-Savic playing the balls for them to destroy teams on the counter attack.
Guys if Liverpool win the CL, it really can't get any worse as a United Fan but keep the faith because that's what makes our club special, the fans and it's why it will always be adored by so many around the Globe, we always bounce back and next year with the right recruits we can reach the summit once more!

Let’s inject a bit of samba!

These lads do well at OT and it will inspire a generation of young Brazilians to try Manchester rather than Spain!

I doubt Madrid would sell him for less than they have bought.
You never know, especially if they have their eyes on Neymar. Like us they also have a history of buying players for high transfer fees and then selling at considerably lower price

United and Real give out player contracts that only a handful of clubs in Europe would buy at any price. Like Sanchez, Bale is on 600k/week wages pre tax. Who in Europe would buy those contracts besides United or Real? Even Russian Oligarchs and Arab Sheiks would laugh at a suggestion that those contracts be bought for a large transfer fee.

The Sanchez and Bale contracts run until June 2022. 1.2m a week to fill 2 positions in the lineup for the next 4 years would not be good management, imo.

Fire our manager and scouts and 7-8 players and don't buy anyone because they might be shite.

Great advice, pal.

I hear Anderson inspired a generation of young Brazilians to try Nando's.

If Costa is actually available we should be all in for him.

I dont like this big signing approuch. The team is dysfunctional and the players arrive with the pressure to solve all the problems.

Mendy, Gabriel Jesus, Sane, Danilo, Bernardo Silva, none of them were "big names". We need to sign players to do a job a make the team work.

Not Bale, his price went through the roof. Wouldn’t want a player available for 50% of games when he’s 100m
