Why did we buy Fred?

Jose bought Fred to continue playing a 433. Fred was meant to be our number 8. Now Jose has gone back to a 4231, meaning Fred is left on the bench unless Matic or Pogba is dropped.

Another £50m down the toilet. It's disgraceful how much money we've wasted in recent years.

Wouldn’t give Jose a single penny. So many players we have that can’t be Utilized. Fred, Sanchez, Herrera all wasting away. I’m so tired of football right now. Fred would have done so well today against juve. No substitutes made though. Mourinho just needs to feck off

Let's be honest here. If he would turn the place around in training or at international games, that would be questionable, but atm we have to trust our manager. A lot of you fancy Liverpool's way, well neither Keita nor Fabinho got straight into their starting 11 either.

Look how long it took Gündogan/Bernardo to get into City's, Barkley for Chelsea is similar case. And well everyone's darling Pochettino has the worst track record on the case of getting new players into his favourite squad.

So, we need patience atm.

Last game he started wasnt the one he scored and hit the post was it? After the match (similar to how he does with Martial) he refuses to give much credit to the boy.

Into the abyss of the squad like other summer signings before him ( Mkhitaryan and Lindelof ). It will be months between his starts (like Pereira) just watch and see. Meanwhile he will play out of form players for months like Sanchez, Lukaku and Matic.....

Fred would have been useful last night, but unfortunately our managers agenda against the board was deemed more important hence no subs made.

Fred is his latest victim of choice. Honestly think Fred will come good eventually - I wouldn’t write anyone off just because Jose doesn’t play them.

Last night he should of played for sure. The massive hole in the middle of the midfield screamed out for a player of Fred's calibre. To not even bring him on at all the last few games is just shocking.

How can he get used to the team if he never plays?
Well his former manager at Shaktar missed him last night against City for sure. Don't know if he is good enough for this level. But when only Fellaini thrives in this system maybe the problem isn't only the quality of the players.

Fred would be fine in a ‘team’ rather than a collection of individuals. There is a reason why City were looking at him.

Gundogan’s back has finished his career; Silva actually plays games and Ross Barkley was playing for Conte after hardly playing at all. Conte didn’t even want him so what do you expect. Poch? Give the evidence.. because he doesn’t play Sissoko?

Can see why board was reluctant to part with the money this summer. Maureen is wasting the clubs investment and again he's wasting more money.

He's been here a few months and he's being written off already???

Typical really I suppose

It's gone the other way here too for example a couple of solid months to the start of his career at United and Bailly was considered the next Vidic

Who remembers a decent pre-season from Darmian? had some muppets earmarking him as the next Gary Neville

If he's not as good as we thought, Sanchez is not as good as we thought, Pogba is not as good as we thought, Bailly the same, Lindelof the same, Matic the same. I'm sorry but it means that our coach cannot take the best from these players.

I think he's looked good when he has had a chance. Gives dynamism and energy to our play. Everything Jose hates. He'd rather give the position to the slow robot Matic, playing on the edge of our box inviting pressure.

Because Man United's transfer strategy is to buy all the players linked with City that they don't want, regardless of whether you need them.

Matic was shite all game, always giving the ball away.

Didn’t track Dybala’s run twice in the first half which lead to him scoring.

Then we have Fred on the bench with pace and stamina to burn and didn’t play at the weekend. I say again why the feck did we pay £50m for a player that we don’t use?

Sick of Mourinho now. Everything he does is just odd. Sticks with Matic and Lukaku all season even though they have been our worst performers.

Buys two players in the summer and neither get used regularly, then moans he doesn’t get backed. Well don’t waste £70m on two players you don’t use you absolute numpty, maybe Woodward would trust you with more money.
Totally agree with this and said it in the match day thread. We were getting outrun in midfield and were crying out for a bit more energy. Fred, if nothing else, is dynamic. He could maybe have stopped Juve completely waltzing around us in the middle of the park

As I said, Fred is an engine midfielder. He was a vital part of Shakthar last season and he was a joy to watch. He clearly has talent, I don't see how can we make him fit on a double pivot 4x2x3x1.

Fred's time here has largely been him being miles out of position and lacking any awareness. If we wanted to stop Juventus dominating then playing more than 1 midfielder would help. Fred for Matic would just make it even worse.

Because we are stupid. Silly of us to give Mourinho a player he wants, thinking he would get a tune out of him. Dalot-Fred are almost like none-signings.

He always ostracises his new signings in the first season. Then complains that he wasn't backed. He is a man living in the past. That's why he spends more time holding three fingers in the air, reminding everyone what he did in the past, cause the present sucks.

So what you're saying is we've spent 50M on a midfielder who can't be trusted to play in midfield

I'm saying he can't be trusted to play as a DM because he isn't a DM. If we wanted dynamism and to add more fight in the midfield then he should have replaced Mata, not Matic. Ander should be Matic's replacement.

But any DM will struggle against Juventus when they have to compensate for Pogba and Mata.

Yeah understand your argument. It doesn't help when matic was just so poor yesterday. His lack of mobility is highlighted when he's poor with the ball

How can he settle into the team when we constantly change formation and starting XI. If Fred was worth investing that kind of money on, give him a run in the team. Same applies to Sanchez.
Sanchez did have a run in the team and didn't work out particularly well.

Mkhi MKII
Miki got a long run of games before being binned.
He was so bad, many on here, asked why Jose was so intent on sticking by him.
Miki showed no improvement, no matter how many matches he played and he was eventually sold.

Out of interest, how is Miki doing under the new attacking system being used by the new coach of Arsenal?

Dalot was always going to be one for the future. Jose tends not to rely on youngsters, when he has older players who can play in that position (except Scott McT, for some bizarre reason).
Re: Fred, he was always going to be squad option, who will get plenty of game time as the season progresses.
