Would you take Zlatan for a year?

Would you take Zlatan back on a short-term deal?

Are you serious?

He clearly demanded A LOT from his team mates, and you could tell that they were on their toes because of it.

If you don't see what he brought to the team mentally during his stay, then I really don't know what to say.
Yeah, we ended 5th or 6th on that season, didn't we?

That's with very serious reinforcements....

For four months, from January to May, yes. Not for a full season. Could be something similar to what Milan did with Beckham.

He had some of the highest stats for miss placed passes and also for losing the ball. He wasn’t good. He was a statue at times.
He was also our top scorer and had a massive positive influence on the club and all around him .
His character and personality alone would make him worth a punt again.
January through to end of season would be fantastic what a boost he would give the club

impact, unlock defenses, score goals, improve morale, attract other players..... I find it hard to come up with reasons against TBH, the guy is fitter and stronger than most prem players, speed was never his thing but he hasn't really slowed down either

Come on you deluded people... let's give the young lads a chance and please stop having fantasies.

He's 38 ffs! :houllier:

Or do you wish to open a retirement home?

No thanks as I don’t think his personality and character was a help at all. Actually think Marcus and Martial really dropped off and became shadows of what they were the previous seasons.

No. He was that greedy on occasion, we missed a lot of goal-scoring opportunities. His ego was too big for the rest of the squad. A talent yes but not what we need right now.

Absolutely, our current strikers are inconsistent at best.

Absolutely not. If he was happy to be a very good option from the bench but we need to stop this panicky attitude to transfers - signing a near 40 year old to be your No9 (because that's what he'd demand) is mental when you have players with promise already playing. Yes they are inconsistent but Martial and Rashford have 2 each in 3 games and that's with missed penalties. Time we bit the bullet and had some genuine faith.

Last time we had to change all our shape to accomodate him and slow the play up, it didn't really work and nice though the shirt sales would be, no.

It was obvious even before he left that he was finished as a top class player and some are trying to imagine that with another year of playing in a second division standard league he will suddenly role back the years!
It is a nostalgic daydream
You’re correct Ibra is no top class player. But you can’t seriously argue that Rashford is a better striker than Ibra right now.

Keep in mind what we’re talking about: a half season loan.

You just can’t look at our current front line options and claim they’re all vastly superior to Ibra.

Marcus played fine and credited him for helping his game in his time here.

Martial was sulking for the loss of his number 9 and other personal issues.

Would he really be a worse option than Lingard or Mata to play behind Martial?
Mata played a big part in our goal today ... whether he's past his best or not, he's still a better option than Lingard, and Matic might as well be made of wood for all his movement

We underbought in the close season, and is that down to Ole or the board?

Let's imagine how many goals Rashford would score in the US, when you consider how many a nearly retired Robbie Keane scored there.

Saw this YouTube clip from Zlatan's time at United, and was thinking that the creativity he had is exactly what I miss now.

I miss having that kind of player who exudes arrogance and swagger (and can actually back it up). Would have him back just for the fun of it. Won't happen though.

Why has no one contacted him. We need him. He has stated he wants to come if we want him.

Take him from January till end of season.

No brainer

We need an option in January so why not, he was nothing but a good influence last time around and a winner to boot.

Comparing his creativity, flair, flicks and passes with what the current setup offers isnt even funny...
No it is depressing. It feels like he could still contribute in that way but maybe two seasons in a league where you all the time in the world plus his age, make the reality something different.

Zlatan hasn’t looked any better in MLS than Rooney so should we think about bringing Rooney back also ? As a character in the background Zlatan would be great just like Evra being back is great as their leaders with a winning mentality but as an actual player I’m afraid Zlatan would be no use to us.

Mata, Matic and Sanchez are also no use to us for the same reaaons as we’re trying to play a certain way with a young, hungry, pacey, vibrant team that presses from the front. If players don’t fit that style then they’ve been moved on so we’re better off looking at strikers similar to Martial and Rashford so if either is out we’re still playing the same way.

If we talk about being an actual player, it's not about fitting the game style. Zlatan would be plan B, when the hungry, young and unfortunately not always so creative players in United fail to score. Substitute for the last 10-15minutes when you're one down and don't create anything.

He literally has twice the scoring rate of Rooney, he's looked miles better.

For this reason alone it should be a consideration. For me it depends whether we are intending on bringing in a forward in January. If we are then we shouldn't upset the plan. If its a case of Zlatan or nobody I really can't see a downside to it.
