I honestly have zero hope in the club with such news emerging from time to time. His contract should be left to expire and be replaced like what City did with their aging full backs.

After that performance yesterday he should get his contract ripped up and we need to go and sign another right back

He was ripped to shreds yesterday - he is clearly not a United level full back, and never was. He was a decent winger but that's about it. Same with Valencia, and no doubt he'll get some kind of extension too.

We are truly the club that rewards mediocrity. Anywhere else and we'd have upgraded a long time ago.

We have a lot of problems to solve. I'm not convinced right back is a priority with Dalot to come through.

Disappointed but not even remotely surprised. He's been a good servant to the club, but it sums it up that we reward players like him with contract extension. It's penny pinching shite, settling for mediocrity.

If we're shipping out Darmien we need him as cover. I hope that's what it's for. That would be fine with a new RB or Dalot getting most of the games.

If he's willing to take Darmian's place in the squad no problem. It doesn't change anything for us, he shouldn't be starting in any case new contract or not.

Mourinho loves trying to build up his aging average players that he inherited at United. All the pining over Fellaini, Valencia as captain and now Ashley Young.

If only he spent that time and effort on building up our young players. Well, more than just McTominay as the single one at least.

Crazy idea, but hear me out.

We could buy actual RB's?!

Why can't we just sell him and Darmein and buy another RB - this club is making a simple game look so complex

Everyone needs to look at the bigger picture.

He's going to be cover for Dalot and Shaw.

Valencia and Darmian will probably be shifted out in the summer.

We can do better, yes, but buying a backup right back for next season isn't really top priority.

He's not even good enough to be 2nd choice people need to stop entertaining this madness

I dont see the problem in keeping him as a squad player. If Dalot becomes first choice RB and Shaw stays the first choice LB than Young can be a decent squad player. We cant really do a 'Manchester City' and buying a 40 million back up player ( Danilo) before we use our money on positions which need to be improved first. City also have Delph who isnt better than Young.

Young has the right attitude, doesnt complain when he isnt playing, has a good free kick and is a leader in the group.

Get rid of Valencia, Jones, Rojo and Darmian and get a better CB to start next to Smalling/Lindelof/Bailly. If we have done that we could look for a second CB to replace Smalling/Lindelof/Bailly and/or a new RB if Dalot isnt ready.

Also i think we need a Matic replacement, right wing and maybe even striker replacement before getting expensive backups to replace Young.

This is a classic example of why we need a DoF. Contract extensions should not be decided by an ex-investment banker and a manager who most expect to be gone by May.

As for Young, he’s been a good servant but it’s time to move on.

City didn't think the same when they let all their aging backs leafe and be replaced in one window, while we're here rewarding mediocrity and expecting things to change. By the time we replace this deadwood our already good players would have left to seek trophies with ambitious teams.

Keeping what you already have is far simpler than signing new players.

The best thing is that we know what to expect.

Of all the players that need shipping, Young is not a priority. He's a decent option, consummate professional, and one of the last remaining senior players who have spent years at the club. Is he the best option? no. But does he have stuff to offer? yes.

We've been expecting the likes of Darmian to be shifted in the summer for years, and yet....
Huge wages and he gets to watch Manchester United from the bench since Mourinho prefers to put him on the bench instead of a young promosing academy player.

Matteo is living the dream!

We brought the (supposedly) highly talented Diogo Dalot for £20 million only 6 months ago. Young is merely keeping the RB position warm until Dalot is ready to take over.

An extension seems logical given the circumstances.

Bollocks to that. Dalot should be the backup and we should be buying a top class right back. We're supposed to be an elite club challenging for every trophy. How the feck are we ever going to achieve that if we stockpile shite old players?

Dalot has barely played thus far, I can't see him being the starting RB by this time next year.

Extending our deadwood surely seems like a recipe for success...

The fact that Young is still starting games for us in 2018 has been an indictment on the clubs current level

I think he has actually played relatively well recently. That might not be the case come the end of the season but like others have said, he has the capacity to be a useful squad player and there's a good chance Darmian (and possibly Valencia) won't be here by the start of next season.

You can't have two right backs that are new to the team (and possibly the league), especially at a club like Man Utd where the pressure for deliverig instantly is high.

City have a functioning team that fires on all cylinders at all times. They could play with no right back and win most games. We're not at that level right now.

Great servant for the club, shouldn't play as much as he has anymore but definitely deserves to retire here. Has had shit games as much as everyone else but he's also a left winger playing right full-back, so.

Might have played more if he wasn't injured.
