Driving home today, my Spotify shuffle played Every Me, Every You by Placebo which instantly made me think of this...

Then I started thinking of all the other great movie opening scenes.

What's your favourite? Videos mandatory

I was looking at some lists and would additionally nominate:

Once Upon A Time In The West (really sets the tone, too)

Touch Of Evil (historically required)

Up (animation at its finest- in this scene, anyway, don't care much for the rest of the film)
(couldn't find the full version so this will have to do)

Too many to list and no doubt too many forgotten but a few spring immediately to mind.

2001
The Shining
Up! (You beat me to it @Cheimoon :))
Trainspotting
Jaws
There will be blood
Prometheus - totally average film but I was transfixed by that opening scene

There are probably ones I think better but from the top of my head the intro to Apocalypse Now always gets me. Such a perfect and stimulating entry into a movie journey.

No Country for Old Men sets the scene perfectly. Some beautiful shots of the Deep South, with Tommy Lee Jones voiceover talking about the world changing, and changing to something he doesn’t comprehend or recognise…just as Javier Bardem’s character is getting arrested and put into the back of a police car. It’s beautifully done.

I can't find the whole scene on YouTube but Inglorious Basterds. Waltz is amazing.

What film is is that follows a bullet from manufacture all the way to its target?

That was a cool opening sequence but can’t remember the name of it.

Fallen. You are literally told how the film is going to end and you have no idea that is what is happening.
