Will kick this off:

Definite outs: Darmian, Blind, Jones, Rojo, Carrick, Fellaini
Other outs: Shaw (dependant on signing Sessegnon), Mata, Smalling (dependant on CBs signed) Herrera (dependant on CMs signed) Martial (purely as not going to be played up front, not the same on wing, its him OR Rashford for me in the squad). Personally would love to get rid of Lukaku, hate him, never happening though
(£200m odd raised)

Ins:
LB: Sessegnon
CB: Toby Alderweireld
CM: Kimmich (also can cover Valencia at RB) or Paredes or Santiago Ascaciba
CM2: Alan Guimaraes or Ruben Neves
RW: Dybala or Malcom
(£300m odd cost)

11 out 5 in £150m spend

De Gea

Valencia Alderweireld Bailly Sessegnon

Matic

Kimmich Pogba

Dybala Sanchez

Lukaku (have to be realistic, would rather not)

Second 11

Romero

Mensah (though Kimmich cover) Tuanzabe Lindelof Young

McTominay

Perreira Guimaraes

Lingard Angel Gomes

Rashford

Also think there are youth players good enough next season to be called up to the squad in cases of an injury crisis.....Laird, Mitchell, RoShaun Williams, Gribbin, Chong and next season maybe even Mason Greenwood

We're not signing Kimmich. And even if we did what's the point of playing him in midfield when we desperately need someone to replace Valencia? Unrealistic 1st and 2nd teams.

Is Kimmich a midfielder now? Didn't he use to play CB/RB? (Not following the Bundesliga)
Hating Lukaku... really? :o

I used to be really into thinking about hypothetical situations like this but I realised that there is little point and actually it just makes you frustrated when the transfer strategy doesn’t align with your own ideas.

I’ll just go along with the ride and look forward to see how we set up next season.

Yeah, you might also want to look up a few of these players.

Sess is not and will never be, a LB.

He played there for a few games at the start of the season but is a waste to play him there as he's very much a left winger and has been for most of this year.

He did okay at Barcelona there.
He personally dislikes that position (he literally said that a few times), and we've all seen that, despite however well it looks on paper, he takes Martial's role on the pitch.

You think Bayern would sell Kimmich and you discount our top scorer we spent £75M on and you ask us to be realistic. Top quality stuff!

Maybe Kimmich is unrealistic yes. Hate maybe too stronger phrase, but a player costing £70m or whatever it was with a first touch like his is criminal

Serious question, are people generally happy with Lukaku then, do you rate him? I remember when we signed Fellaini I got panned for slating his first touch and passing ability. To me he is the striking equivalent. Of course he should be the top scored playing up front.....£75m for a best of a human being that cant actually hold the ball up and has the first touch of a player several leagues below. With his back to goal he is absolutely abysmal. His work rate and movement around the area is good, he is good in the air and a decent finisher. Personally I would far rather have Martial up front, a fantastic talent who we have wasted on the wing for the majority of his time with us. He has had his problems off the field and consistency wise for us, he is young though. But he is a player I think we will lose and be talking about in a few years of how did we let him get away.

I feel the same, waste if time. And even when you get someone you've always like Sanchez it feels at jeopardy for other players, in this case Rashford and Martial.

And Schweinsteigar signed too late in his career. And Falcao too injured. And Di Maria too much of a pussy.

So really as you say lets wait and see. The most exciting signings I can remember tend to be those that the least is known about them. I.e. the ones unlikely too ever make these types of posts.

Only realistic replies lads, like 12 players out and 300m spent
You know, I am not a Guardiola fan, the thing I do admire about him though is his actions in the transfer market. We have several players we shouldnt have signed and several who just have been here for years and never consistently performed to the level a Manchester United player should. Guardiola taking over City binned so many players that he didnt see fitting what he wanted, or aging players, wholesale changes. We have quite a few players been here for 3/4 years now that havent performed to a credible level for more than a season and half the signing we have made have been moved on as failed since Ferguson left. How many players are genuinely deserving performance wise of being a starting player for our club based over the last 3/4 years...I would struggle to fill the fingers of one hand.

True. But one thing we do know for certain is that we are in the market to sign a replacement for Carrick and also Fellaini if he leaves. Everything else at this point like you said is hypothetical. The positions we need to strengthen are very clear but I suspect it'll be the usual 3 options for each position and Ed will try to get the first option from the list Mourinho will give him.

Proper world class full backs and rotation of our current squad will do just fine, assuming everyone can play at their top level.

First 11:
DDG
Cedric-Alderweireld-Bailly-Sandro
Matic
Verrati-Pogba
Lemar-Lukaku-Sanchez

Cedric would be a decent buy from Southampton. Especially due to Glazernomics. He will be cheap. Verrati would be a marquee signing especially with PSG FFP and his recent issues he could be available. If not Kovacic would be a good option. Alex Sandro is definitely needed. Ive seen sessegnon and tierney being named. These are the same people that will slaughter Jose for not playing them when they make mistakes. We aren't going to win a title with an 18 year old LB who looks great going forward and isnt the best defensive LB in the championship. We need a solid experienced guy. Alex Sandro is that guy. Ive gone for Lemar over Dybala purely because signing Sandro takes priority. We wont sign two players from Juventus. Lemar is a solid worker and is a player actually capable of putting in a cross. Left footed, suits Joses style of intricate play and hard work. He hasn't been great this season because he wanted to leave so i reckon he should be available this summer. Thats all.

This is pretty much what I guess will happen. Mourinho’s been true to his word when previously talking about transfer plans. This year, he basically said we need 2 defenders (I assume these are both full backs as we are very well stocked in CD) and 1 midfielder. He also said we will need another midfielder is Fellaini leaves, which I believe is very likely.

He also says he’s promoting a youth player. He had previously said he would bring back Fosu Mensah, Tuanzebe and Mitchell from their loans. However, they’ve all either underwhelmed or had injury problems. I would say, given the competition in their positions, they will be loaned again. Though perhaps Mitchell will be used as a Tierney makeweight.

This would mean the signings of Odriozola from Sociedad, Tierney from Celtic, Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and Ruben Neves from Wolves. Tahith Chong would be the player promoted. I’ve moved Sanchez to the right because I think Mourinho will push Martial up a level in the Summer.

GK: De Gea, Romero
RB: Odriozola, Valencia
LB: Tierney, Young
CD: Bailly, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Lindelof
DM: Matic, Neves, McTominay
CM: Fred, Herrera
AM/CM: Pogba, Lingard
RW/AM: Sanchez, Mata, Chong
LW: Martial, Pereira
ST: Lukaku, Rashford

This looks decent to me. The signings shouldn’t cost more than 150m and that should be supplemented by the departures of Blind, Shaw, Darmian, Fellaini and Carrick (wages) etc.

Ins: Thiago (£70m), Alex Sandro (£45m), Alderweireld (£40m), Cancelo/Odriozola (£40m?)
Total spend: £195m
Outs: Jones (£30m), Blind (£20m), Valencia (£5m?), Darmian (£10m), Carrick, Fellaini, Shaw (£35m),
Total sales: £100m

Net spend: £95m

---------------------Martial----Lukaku
----------------------------Sanchez
-------------------Pogba-------------Thiago
------------------------------Matic
----Sandro---Alderwireld--Bailly--Cancelo
-----------------------------De Gea

This formation probably suits our players best and would save us from having to buy a RW. With top class full-backs we could finally make it work. Would also stop Martial and Rashford from worrying about game time at striker.

That would leave us with a squad like this:

ST: Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Sanchez
SS: Martial, Rashford, Sanchez
Trequartista: Sanchez, Lingard, Mata
LW: Martial, Sanchez, Rashford, Chong
RW: Sanchez, Lingard, Mata, Chong
CM: Pogba, Thiago, Pereira, Herrera, McTominay
DM: Matic, Herrera, TFM (maybe)
LB: Alex Sandro, Young, Mitchell
RB: Cancelo, TFM, Young
CB: Alderwireld, Bailly, Smalling, Rojo, Lindelöf
GK: De Gea, Romero, Pereira
