That is the core of the team I would love to see here next season.

Honestly.. I have mixed thoughts on Schweini..part of me thinks his legs have gone and that we need to move away from having a pedestrian midfield. Right back.. there seems to be very few good established right backs who are available, I saw some clips of Fabinho and I am not convinced. I would love to see Rafael back but that is not going to happen.

RW I would love to see Nani there but again - not going to happen, in terms of the market.. I am not aware of anyone who is available and would be top class.. maybe Pedro from Barca?

I'd love to see Di Maria sold to PSG in a swap deal for Pastore, who for me is more of a LVG style player and a huge upcoming talent. He's the perfect Fellaini upgrade.
I love you Raess, 9 new first XI players. Nine!

I think that we still lack a top striker and we need to hope Di Maria finds his form and Memphis adapts quickly, but overall this team should secure a top 4 finish no problem.

Time for this thread again?

I honestly think a team like the one below (supposing we were to sign all these new players) has no excuse for not challenging for the league. Agree? Harsh not to fit Mata in, maybe on the right? What do you think?

Next time please start a new one instead of bumping an old one.

tbh i would much prefer to keep DDG, play Rafael and alternate between Nani/ADM for the RW slot.. but just not going to happen under LVG. Pastore is an utterly muppet inclusion in that formation and heck I would be more than happy with Smalling instead of Otamendi, so arguably new CB, Schneiderlin, a new striker are musts and the rest are optional/desirable if we wish to go far in the CL or win the title for me.

Going off of the basis that Morgan Schneiderlein is a done deal, and keeping the squad as it is (minus Dave, who's all but gone).

Valdes
Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Carrick - Morgan
Mata
di Maria - Rooney - Memphis
Harsh on Herrera. He'll get plenty of games, but that's probably our best and most balanced side.

Just gonna make a prediction for a starting XI next season, and similarly, the squad depth also.

Valdes
Coleman - Smalling - Ramos - Shaw
Carrick - Schneiderlin
Herrera
di Maria - Rooney - Memphis

Subs: Lindegaard, Jones, Blind, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Mata, van Persie
With the likes of Rojo, Valencia and Young in reserve, as well as emerging youth talent, namely McNair, Pereira, Lingard and Wilson.

Transfer plans rarely go completely according to plan and as such, I still expect a few problem areas to remain next season. There's no denying that recruiting Ramos, Coleman, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Memphis would signify an excellent summer of business and it's still probably unlikely, however it would leave the number one and strikers position as areas for concern over the coming season.

There's been plenty of talk of Cilessen joing, but despite being a compatriot of van Gaal's, I doubt LVG sees him as a capable number one at a club of United stature. As for Lloris, negotiating with Levy will be a monumental task and I think they will be desperate to retain him, despite their supposed 'gentleman agreement'. I'm resigned to losing de Gea. It seems inevitable, even with our hardballing over Ramos. Valdes will step in as number one, but fail to convince IMO.

The other position will be upfront. I think it's pretty unanimous now to suggest Rooney's best days are behind him. It's never clever to write him off prematurely, as he has a tendency to bounce back in style, but I'm not even convinced he's a 20+ goal a season striker anymore. Unfortunately, the market is bereft of quality forwards whom I think meet LVG's criteria for a number nine. We should be predominantly using a lone striker system and I think LVG will settle with Rooney, van Persie and Wilson as his three striker options next season.

It's a very good and largely, complete squad though. A squad that could contest for the title, but one which I think will fall short due to the reasons stated above. A title-winning keeper who will save us circa eight points-plus a season and a striker capable of firing 20+ goals a season.

The squad will possess more title-winning experience and leadership in the form of Ramos and Bastian, which we were deprived of last season, as well as defensive structure and better balance across the squad. As I eluded too, I think Valdes could be a liability, but that's a very strong defence on paper, aided by the likes of Carrick, Bastian, Schneiderlin and Herrera ahead, who all have their pluses defensively. We won't leak many and I think we'll score marginally more.

Second or third place would seem likely with that squad. City will obviously strengthen, but I'm actually fancying our chances of finishing above them next season. Their squad needs just as much work, is ageing and has a relatively competent, yet unremarkable manager in charge.

I still think that with this composition, Mata as a number 8 is not sufficent in terms of quality, and we should have another midfielder here, able to rule the midfield, somebody like Fellaini, but a world class player.

Seems obvious enough what we should do, but I'm not sure Van Gaal agrees.

Easier games:

Memphis-----Rooney-------------
---------------Mata-------DiMaria
-----------Herrera------------------
Shaw-------Schneiderlin-------RB
--------LCB------Smalling--------
--------------Keeper--------------

Tougher games:

Memphis-----Rooney-------------
----------------------------DiMaria
--------Herrera--Schneiderlin----
Shaw--------Carrick----------RB
--------LCB------Smalling--------
--------------Keeper--------------

Carrick replaceable by Blind, if need be.

Signings look manageable too, even if they are more solid signings than outright home runs due to age or lack of upside to truly be world class. Maybe 85 million (40 for the CB, 20 for the RB and 25 for the Keeper). That would put us around 120-130 for the summer, which is not so high that it wouldn't allow for something fun like a Lacazette bid and RVP and or Chicharito sale to cover half of that (mostly wages in RVP's case, transfer fee in Cheech's) or signing some massive prospect like Tielemans and loaning him back to his club for a year.

RB - Fabinho, Coleman, Darmian
LCB - Ramos, Otamendi
GK - Leno, Lloris
