Because the double pivot doesn't need a pure DM but rather 2 competent all round mids.
I beg to differ based on what we’ve seen consistently over the last few years.
Seemingly Fred can’t play without Scott, Pogba can’t play there with
anybody apparently (which is a nonsense imo so long as its a competent DM)
So it doesn’t work effectively enough and requires ultimately two limited midfielders paired up to do the job of one top DM.
I’d much prefer specialists in each position. These Jack-of-all-trade midfielders aren’t cutting the mustard and there’s no guarantee replacement versions of the same will.
We could add the likes of Camavinga (who I’m led to believe is more of a well rounded midfielder rather than a true DM) and we could be still having the same issues.
The crux of the issue is the fact we are overrun in midfield at times, like yesterday, and the players we have can’t progress the ball well enough or contribute going forward. These sorts of players aren’t going to fix the issue imo.
