I wonder if this lot on BBC would be calling it such a 'tough call' if Alonso or Schumacher had pulled that spin to recover.

8 races to go and Vettel needs to have about 4 retirements for the rest to have any chance. He's almost already overhauled his points total for last season and should do it in the next round.

JB on the forum saying he was told to come in behind Lewis and queue up for inters and chose to ignore the call

Just watching the highlights, when Hamilton put those inters on towards the end the racing line was bone dry

If it rained again he would have won. They needed to take a risk because Mclaren had cocked up putting him on the super softs rather than the prime, so he wouldn't have reached the end of the race without pitting anyway. Basically they sacrificed a sure fire 3rd for a shot at victory, and ended up 4th.

F1 - not all about fast cars and tits

A Formula One fan has had his wish of a new bionic hand fulfilled after a plucky letter to boss of the Mercedes GP Petronas team, Ross Brawn.

Matthew James, a 14-year-old from Wokingham in Berkshire, was born without a left hand.

He was fitted with a bionic version which he described as "like a claw".

His dream was for a more sophisticated device, but they cost tens of thousands of pounds and are not available on the NHS.

Matthew had his eye on an i-Limb Pulse from Touch Bionics, a firm in Scotland. His family had raised some money, but nowhere near the £30,000 needed.

He decided to ask Ross Brawn for help after the F1 boss visited Reading School.

In a letter, Matthew offered to have his hand sponsored by Mercedes in exchange for help.

Matthew was invited for a tour round the Mercedes factory, while a member of the F1 team got in touch with Touch Bionics.

The two organisations agreed to share technology which is used in both the cars and the bionic arm. As part of the deal, the £25,000 fee to fit the hand and train Matthew to use it was waived. Mercedes is helping to fund-raise the rest.

Matthew said his old hand was "a simple open and close mechanism, like a claw" while the new one "has five individual motors in each finger and therefore each finger can move individually".

The arm was fitted on Friday and he is still getting used to it, but can already open jars and carry cups of tea.

"Unfortunately there's one downside to it, I'm having to do more chores," he said.

Ross Brawn said: "Matthew's letter to the team was very touching.

"Meeting Matthew, and hearing first hand how the new device would improve his quality of life, was a pleasure and I am delighted that our initial contact has now led to such a positive conclusion."

Might be worth a watch BBC2 11.35PM
Grand Prix the Killer Years.

Just watched this and to be honest found it quite sad and fascinating at the same time.
The 60's and 70's were a dangerous time to be driving in F1 , the cars were not safe and even a small shunt caused a huge fire.
Many drivers were burnt to death.

Well worth a watch.

well bang goes my fantasy team , one down before the race starts

Nick Heidfeld is dropped by the Renault team in favour of Bruno Senna for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix

Edit: I was able to to take Nick Heidfeld out and replace him.

Well Eau Rouge is considered 'easy' flat at the moment (providing its dry) but I can understand banning drs as losing a significant amount of down force going through the corner could be very dangerous.

Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren might get away with it but i doubt cars that lack down force would.

Yea they take Eau Rouge flat these days and with the line they take through it I think it would be quite dangerous to have DRS because the closing speed would be much higher than normal with nowhere to really go with it. The ban makes sense.

I'm gutted I'm going to miss this race, my favourite track on the calendar is Spa.

I'm driving down to Spa tomorrow. Got Bronze tickets for the whole weekend. Rented an appartment in Spa town.
The weather forecast is good, mostly dry Saturday and dry & sunny on race day.
Still wondering where to stand. Was thinking of Eau Rouge. But if they ban DRS there I might go a little further down the straight that follows so I get to see some overtaking. I think you can also see start finish from there and I also think they have a screen there.

La Source will probably be good as you'll get to see the start and the possibility of some overtaking. Or the entry of Les Combes should also be good. Take plenty of pictures!

I don't think there is any spectator zones tat La Source apart from the grandstands of course. Near Les Combes is what I meant before.

I wouldn't go all the way to Spa and not watch the cars through Eau Rouge for a long period. I'd say Eau Rouge for quali and Les Combes for the race if I was going.

Exactly my plan! Eau Rouge for Friday & Saturday (incl. some of the none f1 races) and Les Combes on race day.
