Thought I'd create this to keep the series separated, mainly for spoiler reasons.

Saw the HD version on Sky1 last night and appetite was suitably whetted. The 'new' Spartacus did a decent job of replacing Whitfield but still needs some getting used to.

Good to see some shots of Rome being built too. Still missing Batiatus's classic lines of fate being pushed up ar*e, hard, but the rest of the storyline has potential.

Good touch having Glaber staying at cher Batiatus, keeps his foul-mouthed memory alive. :)

Jupiter's cock.
I enjoyed it, although the new Spartacus is a bit odd.
Who healed Lucy Lawless? I thought it was a bit crap that she lived.

hmmm, loved the previous seasons. Thought last nights as a bit 'meh' but based on previous seasons i'll give it time to sink in and hopefully improve

not sure about the new guy, he's no Whitfield

some thoughts

Mrs Batiatus..Lucy Lawless.. didnt she have her throat cut at the end of the season? Or at least get stabbed/hacked? When she reappeared, she didnt have a mark on her!

They guys have been on the outside for a period of time, yet most of them are still running around in their pants. Cant they steal some clothes?

Crixus stabbed her in the stomach(She loses the baby), they showed something resembling a fading scar in the new episode, or did I imagine that?

You see a scar when she gets out of the tub and Lucretia is looking at it.

I enjoyed it, of course Whitfield is impossible to replace, he was a great lead, but the new guy seems fine to me, I've no problem with him. The biggest loss is definitely John Hannah.

Still full of tits and gore so I'll keep watching it.

I've caught up on this.

2nd episode:

Starting to feel like the storyline is beginning to gel together. The new Spartacus is taking a while to get used to, but by the end of the 2nd episode I was beginning to warm to him. Meanwhile Asher is back, slightly predictable! Mrs Batiatus is such a great character though and damn does Lucy Lawless play her well!

Meh, still not impressed

Cant take to the new Spartacus, theres something too wooden about him. No charisma or something. The exchanges between him and Crixus are a bit bland compared to the first season.

Also the new directing method is starting to get on my nerves. We get it, you want to be like the '300' but do you have to slow every bloody battle scene down, and have spots of blood on the camera for every fight? Its getting boring.

theres also something wrong about watching 'gladiators' just standing around supposedly drinking and waving their willies about

I fear for this show without Whitfield and Hannah. They WERE Season 1. No-one is capable of carrying this new season so far. I'll persist in the hope..but im not optimistic :(

Watched the 3rd episode...not bad, as expected things are starting to come together.

Asher is such a cnut - wonder how they'll bring about the escape of Crixus, and the hell thats going to break loose when Gannicus and Oenameous cross paths.

I thought the 3rd episode was a really big jump in quality from the first 2. Really enjoyable. It's also good to have a proper villain like Ashur back.

I thought he'd be the obvious choice to replace the void left by Batiatus. Things should start getting better from now on.

The new Spartacus guy is a bit wooden and void of any charisma.

Yeah and she's not as fit as the previous actress.

I liked ep 4 a lot. Ok the new Spartacus isn't great, but the likes of Crixus, Ashur, Ilythia are still awesome so I enjoy it.

I'm just looking forward to seeing James Dean back, aka Gannicus. Gannicus/Oenemaous story arc should keep me happy while Spartacus gathers the troops.

Sure, we all struggle to cope with the lack of Whitfield and the new Spartavus, but feck me, the newest episode was just an absolute cracker from start to finish, and

Gannicus is back

I still thoroughly enjoy the show and I can see this season only getting better and better now

Definitely the best episode this season by a wide margin.

excellent episode, glad that snake like sleeze is most likely dead(took a spear)....Glaber growing a pair, and killing Illthyia's father. The chopping up of the dead gladiators was a bit

Yeah that pretty sick, even by this shows standards

Glaber is definitely turning into. Up until now he always seemed like a bit of a pussy.

Glad Gannicus is back. The new Spartacus' acting is getting worse, I just can't warm to him.

I actually quite like him now tbh.

yes its hard when your used to a certain character, but i have tried to remember Whitfields situation and have just accepted it for what has happened, and i think he is doing a decent job.

Either way it hasnt effected my viewing of the show at all

It's not the Whitfield thing. I just don't think the new guy is much of an Actor!

I agree with Ray, the new actor is a bit wooden. Whitfield had charisma. This guy has the charisma of a wooden bench

however, what an episode!

I finally decided to give it a shot after hesitating over Andy Whitfield's replacement. Currently watching episode number three.

At this point I have mixed feelings. I found the "Roman" part of the series still interesting, with actors having something to work with in terms of dialogue and a story line. The "gladiator" part has been a disappointment so far. The new Spartacus, try as he might, is no Andy, and it affects everything. He just doesn't have the presence and charisma of a man he was brought to replace. Pity.

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of slow motion fighting scenes with blood splashing into the camera, enough of this Spartaaah bullshit already. Also, someone needs to remind the show creators that those Roman legionnaires were professional soldiers, well trained and battle hardened, not just some dummies that gladiators could practice their skills on.

Finally, Naevia. It's bad enough the main character is played by a new man, and now this? WTF?
