Dodged a bullet!
I know its wrong, but I chuckled.
I doubt that he had a shot at the first XI at the world cup anyway, at least not without a major injury crisis. It's still early, but I am guessing this will be another season that he won't enjoy too much as he would have loved too. His first few performance probably suggested he is still far from being regular in Bayern's first XI, and this injury will probably harm him even more, because Guardiola will probably establish 13-14 players who will be playing almost every match, which isn't really case right now. Good thing for him is that Guardiola appreciate him a lot, so he will probably get more chances than other player who would maybe deserve it more than him.
Just guessing, but I don't see him ending up in Spain's first XI in Brazil.

The good thing for him is, that the Bundesliga has a 4 week winter break with another training camp in January, usually after that everything can change again. That helps players a lot who come back from injuries and struggle to find their place in the team during the season.
Hope he has trouble fighting his way into the team now and gets left out the WC squad. Then he loses all confidence and will be miserably shit, leading to a transfer to atletico madrid or bilbao.

Injured his syndesmosis in yesterday's game, has to undergo surgery and is out for around 2 months.
The issue of Thiago Alcântara also needs clearing up. In his case, it has been portrayed as him snubbing United for Bayern Munich when the truth is actually that Moyes decided he was not entirely comfortable going for the Barcelona player. United had been monitoring him for three years and effectively lined up the transfer but Moyes, as everyone at Everton can testify, likes to have a huge amount of background information on new signings and, having initially gone along with it, decided in the end he did not want to take someone else's word about a player he had seen infrequently. Again, it boils down to a new manager shopping in a new market, with a limited amount of time.
United's spin on Thiago.
It was suggested when Fergie retired that a more high profile manager would have a better knowledge of the European market and the level we of players we should be looking, but it was brushed off by the top reds on here. Great to know our choice of manager steered us away from landing a world class midfield talent, really positive stuff.United's spin on Thiago.

That isn't a positive spin on the situation at all.
This part really surprises me - "he did not want to take someone else's word about a player he had seen infrequently."
This isnt really a criticism of Moyes, but I'm very surprised he hasn't seen a lot of Thiago. You would think a football manager would have enough interest in the game to watch Barcelona the odd time.
It's hard to believe isn't it?That isn't a positive spin on the situation at all.

Fergie's refusal to sign a central midfielder was frustrating everyone - you wont catch many people defending him on that. I doubt though the club ever went through the trouble to line up a transfer of a world class talent in the one area we were aiming to improve, at a very cheap price only for him to say "you know what, I don't really know much about him..."Tbf if its true its a bit annoying but we've missed out on lots of other players who went on to become top players or were clearly top players. For example why weren't we in for Yaya Toure? Good price, wages are high but he's definitely worth being a top earner. I guess we have to hope that it was Moyes not wanting to take a punt on a pure unknown to him and not doing enough about united's scouts to know how much he trusted them.
Moyes has signed most his players at Everton from abroad I think so I don't think there will be an issue there.
It's not that surprising. He will have watched him, of course. But he won't have extensively scouted him as there was no chance Everton could have got him.

Moyes should have said that we didnt need him and thats fine.
We needed Fellaini, not Thiago.
Thiago was probably part of a plan from Fergie to replace Rooney... with him staying, no need for him.
As for Herrera? a pretty expensive player for what he does. He is just a very good player to keep the ball moving. nothing special.
Our Cleverley is much more suited for us than him.
Not sure if serious?
Who is talking about extensively scouting, read the quote - "a player he had seen infrequently"
I don't even think you need to extensively scout someone like Thiago anyway, and I don't even know what it would entail. Is watching the games not 'scouting' him?
Basically what I'm saying is that I assumed as a football man Moyes would be watching Barcelona quite frequently, enough to get an idea on Thiago. Its not a criticism that he doesn't, but I am surprised.
Extensively scouting is basically what the player is like off the pitch, how's he like in training etc. Like before this summer the manager of the best/2nd best team in Iceland was talking with another dude about his latest transfers, he had recently purchased a left back from another team in the league, and he mentioned that he knew that he was prone to a drink midweek but he was just that much better that any other left back available that he saw past it.
Now a club like Manchester United very rarely signs someone that has any kind of professional issues. Rooney's been a bit of a hassle, nothing that could be foreseen though. Tevez was a menace but mostly the players have been utter professionals and problem free and that was because of SAF's policy. Moyes seems to have a similar one. I don't mind it but it does get very frustrating from time to time.

And pep seemingly ignored all of this off-field issues? The guy is said to be extremely strict about player behavior off the pitch so doubt he would have signed thiago if he had such problems. Have no idea whatsoever why united would release a statement like this, so we wont sign one of the best young midfielders in the world just because our manager hasnt seen enough of him.
