Any song we are going to post in the entertainment forum will come under protected content too, right?
You need to be a bit more careful with the censorship of cnut in case somebody feels the need to discuss the results of Scunthorpe.

About fucking time Niall ;)
Somebody already did that BR :)

Swear filters are sad but acceptable if that's what we need to keep the Caf free. But at least make them creative! How is fcuk and cnut any better than their original form? It's pointless. Even replacing them with asterisks is better; in that case I'd be prepared to believe that the sponsors' sensitivity is being protected. This way it will simply look a bit stupid without actually filtering out swearing.
Replacing those words with f*** and c*** is an option, but I prefer the word substitution as it's something that the community naturally started using years ago and is less jarring to read than asterisks.

I think the no partial nudity rule needs looking at because at this stage you are basically banning pictures of footballers because they're showing a bit of leg. Does every person pictured have be wearing a full on Burka? This could cause some serious confusion.
No don't be daft, you know what we're talking about in terms of partial nudity - provocative images/videos, cleavage, ass, adult sexual content. This has been a rule for a long time already.

Just to clarify on the rules. Could I say post a video link in the music thread that includes profanity, images of drugs or even singing/talking about drugs, semi-naked women dancing around?

Is it brilliant or is it patronising and annoying?
No you can't post a video that has adult content in it, which includes profanity, drugs and sexy ladies!

Any song we are going to post in the entertainment forum will come under protected content too, right?
If it's hosted on one of the major video services (YouTube, Vimeo) then I think it's ok. Just don't post a video with adult content or profanity in it.

I, like some others in this thread, would like to know what this means? I can't refer to a bong or a syringe, or to any substances known colloquially as drugs? Does this go for all controlled substances? If I talk about, say, medication that the doctor would have to prescribe, could I be told to scan my prescription and post it to modmins' satisfaction? I really don't see what's meant by all this.

May we still rehash the argument discussion, as inevitably happens on most forums every few months or so, or is that out of bounds as well?

Or does this all just mean we can't talk about illicit substances in a way that condones or glorifies it?
You can't promote, encourage drugs use or link to any site about drugs or that sells drugs. So for example, linking to website selling bongs or a pharmacy website is not allowed.

A serious discussion in the current events forum, for example about new government legalisation relating to drugs, is ok. Just don't go into a topic like that and post sarcastic, frivolous comments about drug use. Clear?

If you really want to glorify drug use, go to a specific website about that, this is a football forum.

That last point is the key thing to remember with these changes. This forum is about football, all other forums are secondary to that. These rules should not restrict you at all when it comes to discussing football. I agree that excessive profanity is quite a sensitive and subjective thing, but it definitely has gotten well out of control in recent years so reigning it in has been long overdue.

If these rule changes restrict what you can post in non-football forums, then so be it. If this prevents you from expressing yourself, be it by talking about phallices or posting nude images, then I suggest you sign up with a website specifically related to those things.

Ironically I often end up with wholly inappropriate ads on my page when I am at work, such as "MILFs In Your Area" etc. etc. So it would be helpful if the advertisers were asked to have more work-appropriate ads if they feel the site needs to be tamer in order for it to be acceptable for advertisers.
I'd scan your system for Malware/Adware if I was you. While the site's running a different service to Adsense at the moment, I don't think the company Niall is using host adverts like that, it's usually an ad hijacker that you've unwittingly installed as part of a toolbar/app/browser add-on that does that sort of thing to you, another dead giveaway is if it highlights random words in posts creating hyperlinks to other sites. Had to scrub my system clean a few months back after an update to Freecorder started throwing up dodgy ads.

Does google send you messages about the site Niall? Or is this a proactive thing trying to keep from getting in trouble with them?
Google kicked the site off some time ago, Niall is going through the last chance appeal process as the other ad services don't meet the costs of this place and he's been meeting the difference himself ever since.

One of the many little things behind the scenes here that those who have nothing better to do than deride the mods for being over zealous fail to understand.

Wow. Maybe more people knowing that might help out the cause? I would think people would calm down a little if they knew why the changes are so necessary.

Edit;
And thanks for doing that Niall, I'm a RedCafe addict and don't know what I'd do without it during the winter! I've heard about something called a 'life' but I don't think I want one of those.

@Niall Just so you know, one or two taglines may have escaped the swear filter.

It's not that, it's on a work PC where I login through the network.

On my phone I sometimes get a popup saying "your android phone has a virus, scan now".. Only on the caf and only sometimes. I've done a scan with AVG and actually installed adblock plus to see if it went away.

It hasn't gone away but neither have normal adverts. I think its a malicious advert on the caf

So was mine, doesn't stop you having picked up some dodgy adware in your internet travels or even something having infected your network and having hopped onto your system from there.

Take a screenshot of the ad and send it to Niall, he can check whether it's one of the ads that the service he uses rotates.

AVG/virus scanners won't pick up a lot of malware/adware though, I'd suggest you download malwarebytes and Spybot- Search and Destroy (both free and safe) and let them check your system, you'll likely be surprised at the amount of crap you have picked up.

Spybot seemed to be a "news" app, malwarebytes couldnt find anything. I blame Niall (not really).

I'll take a screenshot next time

Did spybot remove the news app it had found? It could well have been lurking within that, as I said, the problem I had was hiding in the Freecorder app and I'd used that without trouble for years to rip streaming media but a recent update contained something that stuck dodgy adds on many websites meaning I had to get rid.

I wouldn't mind donating to keep the site running. I login here every bloody day at work so might as well contribute to a site that alleviates my daily boredom. Besides, what's a little currency transfer amongst fellow transfer muppets?

Cheers to Niall for going through and clearing up questions people had relating to the rules.
