I'm sure Costa will wise up if a big club come looking for him and tell him that's something they demand of him if he's brought in. Drogba was similar on the pitch too. Not as bad obviously but it was there. He got better over the years. And no top team wanted Costa because he hadn't reached this level last summer. I'm sure a bigger team will want him this year.
costa was really good last year even without the goals though, his movement, behaviour, and ability to attack space gave nightmares to opposition defenders, even when he was inconsistent or unlethal considering his lack of endproduct. an atletico fan talking to me in the summer said he thought it was weird, but he reckoned atletico's attack would be stronger with costa-villa then it was with costa-falcao. obviously more of it is due to costa for this season's success rather then any real tandem effect, but it just demonstrates how highly regarded he was even without the unreal goals production rates. since the turn of 2012, from after the winter, he was pretty much the best player of atletico, better then falcao or anyone else.
i'd rather aliken the circumstances, and his character to suarez, he's a person that's mildly unhinged that runs down everything, and has unreal concentration and drive to win. Both players struggled, or weren't quite as amazing with their scoring in their first seasons even though they were both exceptionally dangerous and remarkable players even without goals. the end product has elevated both though. suarez had 11 goals and 4 assists from 31 appearances in 2011/12, costa had 12 goals and 8 assists from 36 appearances in 2012/13. i'd say the key difference is mostly that costa gets double the shots per game that he did in 2012, from 1.6 shots a game to 3.3. fronting the atletico attack, all he's shown is his ability to be dangerous as a goalscorer, in the past he was a very dangerous player, but he did most of his valuable work in build up, drawing opposition away, winning physical duels, and making space for falcao with his excellent dummy runs. He showed in the copa del rey vs madrid just how exceptionally dangerous he could be though with his combination of speed and strength, he scored a goal but could've scored many more with the runs he made for himself.
i would agree with you for sure that he would excell in the premier league, and i say so due to his physical ability, he is exceptionally fast, and exceptionally strong, a combination that makes him uncontainable at times. he's not a very good, or clincal finisher, but his speed and strength lets him get alot of opportunities others wouldn't be able to make. he has a good aerial game, he's nice at dribbling like you say, a little clumsy at times, but he has control over himself and the ball, and doesn't waste his feints.
he's a rare speciman of strength, size, speed, and having an incredible sense for attacking spaces and making his actions dangerous in almost every sense. it guarantees him to be an impact player regardless of production or what league he plays in to me.
