There's a red card in this game.

The handball rule baffles me.

If you give a penalty, the handball has to be deliberate, does it not? By deliberate, the rule actually means that the player has to have ample opportunity to evade contact with the ball or to not place his hand in an odd position.

Deliberate handball is punishable with a yellow card, which surely means Rafael should be off?

For what it's worth, it struck me as being a moment of panic and it wasn't really intentional in a cynical way so I'm glad it was just a penalty and a ticking off. Clattenburg got it right in terms of common sense but I'm not sure he actually followed the rules.

I don't think he tells him that in words but perhaps the training drills expect that on the pitch.
If you see it this way then I'm not really going to try to change your opinion, as I see it, it's the fear of taking the responsibility from our players which occurs not just when we're at the 'shooting' matter.

The penalty is horrendously unlucky. I don't know how people can see it so differently.

He's running at pace, you use your arms to stop yourself, Suarez has just done him. One of those things.
Sorry but bollocks. It was a blatantly deliberate handball.

We've lost this game already to be honest. Unless an individual moment of brilliance rescues us a point... Moyes is unimaginative, cautious and dull, it's in his DNA.
It's probably the first time I'd have to say he's genuinely being let down by his team...well primarily that front four. If it isn't miscontrol it's taking an age to pass or not pass at all, if it's not standing still it's being brushed off the ball.

Liverpool's back four isn't even good! They win games because of their attack and intensity in midfield but we've not played with the tempo to test their back four and that is the problem. Moyes has sent his best eleven out and is clearly telling players to bomb on forward when possible but they're simply not.

England:
Getting absolutely sick and tired of Carrick being anonymous in midfield. What the hell does he do? Everyone else gets stick for messing up this and that but at least they get on the ball and try to do something. Carrick has done nothing all season apart from being static in midfield. Get on the fecking ball and knock it about.
He needs replacing in the summer. He's been poor all season and at 33 isn't going to suddenly get better either.

Football, bloody hell.
You're fecking joking surely. The guy is utterly useless and his oaf-like clumsiness should have resulted in a penalty. He can't run. He's a midfield who cannot run. Or move.
Literally no point trying to discuss anything with people like you who can't look past their own agenda.

Absolute bollocks. It's a deliberate handball. Rafael knows exactly what he's doing there.

They've just spent 45 minutes absolutely dicking all over us. They barely look out of second gear and still look a million miles better then us.
Totally hyperbolic.

A couple for Sturridge
And the huge one for Allen.

Still, they're simply a better team than us.

It won't cut it to choose 11 players, throw them on to the field and say "play football". But you might as well do judging by how we're playing this season.

Honestly I'm not even disappointed today.

They cut your complete defense open twice before that scene. They had chances for the lead before that.
Like feck they did. Both of them were tough chances, it'd have been a pretty good goal if they managed to score from that. RVP had a very similar chance to Sturridge actually when Rafael found him in the box.

I think Isotope is clearly making quite an obvious point that most are missing.
It's a match day thread and we are losing, people get twitchy and emotional.

But Liverpool are a good example of our major problems this season. They have a decent group of players with a couple of top class ones but they have structure and a playing style suited to the strengths of the team. We have better players but thats it.

Does Moyes replace RVP with Welbeck at half time?
Yes I think so. Personally I'd advocate bringing Welbeck on to play on the left, Januzaj right, and Mata central behind Rooney.

We should compete better in the middle with Mata, as Rooney has been too high in the 1st half, Welbeck's defensive work would help us on the left where we've looked most vulnerable to overloads, and his pace in behind would also give us a counter-attacking threat we don't currently possess.

I've clearly got a different definition of dominating than some people. Dominating is what happened in the first leg of the 2008 Champions League semi where Barca had like 70 per cent possession against us and we left Ronnie up top and hoped a long ball would find him. Liverpool are not dominating us. De Gea isnt making save after save. Liverpool got lucky. Simple as.

Fellaini has been a mixed bag. He's easily the most clumsy central midfielder I can remember us playing. He's also had a few moments of usefulness with a couple of tackles and competing in the air. He's had enough good moments not to be one of our worst players, but enough bad moments (including the chance of giving away a penalty) that hes not one of our best players

Can't single him out today. He has been ineffective and useless like the rest. No more no less.
