It's actually 22. Ten years ago it was just 19, but teams have become less and less willing to blood young talent as the pressure to stay in the league or secure a top four finish has become ever greater. Easier to buy cheap foreign talent and hope for instant results. It's a real problem. Is it 21? That's interesting. Do you know if that includes players who have played previously in other leagues like the Championship?
That was an age when the PL was a lot weaker than it is now and where everyone played two up front. You can afford to give young strikers a lot more game time in a 4-4-2 but no ones going to start an 18 year old up front in a 4-2-3-1, even most Championship clubs won't do that.Looking at Liverpool from back in the day when they produced some awesome strikers in Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen. How were these guys at academy/reserve level. Maybe its best to give the really standout players a run in the first team as soon as possible and they may find it within their grasp very soon, if you delay, they may fall behind.
Cheers. Do you know why Pearson and Thorpe missed said game?He missed the last U21s game with illness not injury.
It'll be interesting to see him in the championship if he goes.
Iirc I think they said Pearson was ill also but Thorpe picked up a knock in training.Cheers. Do you know why Pearson and Thorpe missed said game?
Yep, injured like 15 minutes into his debut. Had ligament damage to his ankle I believe. Was back in the LSC match the other week against Bolton.Didn't Thorpe get a bad knock on loan ?
He returned to United because of injury but has since played for the u21s.Didn't Thorpe get a bad knock on loan ?
Hopefully he might get his debut before the season is out.Encouraging to see him in the first teams match day squad for today even though he didn't make the bench
True. He won't have to wait long even then though.Until it's mathematically impossible for us to get into Europe next year, I can't see him appearing for the first team just yet.
When was that?Which of the kids have been involved in first team squads this season? Charni, Rothwell and now Wilson?
Not too sure. I vaguely remember someone mentioning it but don't bet the missus on it.When was that?
The away game against NorwichWhen was that?
Cheers.The away game against Norwich
Bit more to his game than a traditional out and out striker. Looks composed and fairly comfortable on the ball.Wilson...heard so much about this lad....
