Some meltdown
Don't forget Skrtel punching the ball away in the 90th + minute v someone, possibly City?On the penalties thing. I don't think that many of them were wrong calls. However, what is slightly above the norm was that they didn't get the usual amount of good calls turned down. That is, every team will have several very good or '50/50' penalty shouts each season that the ref waves away. This season I'd say Liverpool were being given more of those, particularly away from home, than you'd expect. For example, when the hell would you expect a referee to award them three at OT in one game? Usually after getting one penalty away at a big team, you have to be machine gunned down to get a second.
Not claiming a conspiracy, just one of those slightly anomalous seasons for being awarded penalties and their increased attacking obviously contributed to this.
They also benefitted from a couple of very big calls IMO. Gerrard and his elbow early at OT could have been a red and cost them the win. Then there was Suarez at home to City getting away with his ridiculous dive when already on a yellow card.
All in all, despite getting quite a big rub of the green they still managed to feck it up. Wasn't it great?
Agreed. Objectivity and football rarely go hand-in-hand. The nonsense in this thread about what neutrals wanted and then using four mates as a sample...bit daft.No such thing as neutrals either.
This is classic blinkered subjectivity. Big calls go both ways. As a United fan you're inclined to recall the ones that went Liverpool's way. But off the top if my head there's the "offside" against City (away) and the foul on Suarez in the box at Chelsea. Two very big calls against two rivals. I'm not crying about these but to offer the narrative that it went all Liverpool's way is disguising the fact that Liverpool finished where they did because of quality attacking and team play not referee favours. On the penalties thing. If this doesn't happen (Suarez's daughter has just been enrolled into a Liverpool school for September) will this place go into full meltdown. For the past 18 months the refrain has been: "They'll be screwed when Suarez leaves".It's funny all this lesser evil business.
Other years City winning the title would be a colossal disaster. This year it was terrific!
I'd have preferred Arsenal to keep their bottling run going in the cup, but compared to Liverpool winning the league, it didn't matter a jot.
Just hope Madrid come calling for a certain unpleasant striker. One to rid the league of him, but obviously two to massively derail any momentum.
They'll tell you otherwise. The F.A. and media wanted them to win it.
Because it's fandom bollox...just something fans of all teams get into their heads. They'll tell you otherwise.
Indeed. It seemed like every 50/50 went their way.
It starts in Liverpool and works its way out from there. The city itself has a very strong identity, to the point of being quite self involved and taking itself far too seriously. Sees itself as a land of plucky, passionate, artistic sorts, that no one could help but love. Why do Liverpool fans think that every neutral will go for them?
Most people I know hate Liverpool because of their fans actions at games and they hate Suarez.
No, no, no... Livepool finished where they did becuase Gerrard slipped. This is classic blinkered subjectivity. Big calls go both ways. As a United fan you're inclined to recall the ones that went Liverpool's way. But off the top if my head there's the "offside" against City (away) and the foul on Suarez in the box at Chelsea. not one single neutral I know wanted Liverpool to win, City or Chelsea was their choice. Most neutrals I know wanted Liverpool to win it until all the Liverpool fans started crowing about all the neutrals wanting them to win it. Some neutrals may like the idea of the club at the moment, but everyone hates the fecking fans.
Hence the entire internet uniting to mock the shit out of them when it all went to pieces.
I'll take that as a compliment. Presumably you still regard Liverpool as the league's best team if you can single out one incident that prevented them from winning it. Encouraging stuff. No, no, no... Livepool finished where they did becuase Gerrard slipped.
Really? When? There's no denying that Liverpool were a good team this year but they did get a helping hand on occasion. I don't know the actual figures but there were a few occasions where Suarez should have seen red and dodgy penalty decisions were given.
Deal. You take whatever compliment you like. I actually agree that you were the best team in this league in terms of forward play and entertainment. It's only after Gerrard's slip and those 9 crazy minutes at Crystanbul that you were no longer entertained. That was still entertaining from here.I'll take that as a compliment. Presumably you still regard Liverpool as the league's best team if you can single out one incident that prevented them from winning it. Encouraging stuff.
Against City was one off the top of my head. He blatantly dived and was already on a yellow.Really? When?
Yeah. Funny that one is often slipped off Liverpool fans mind.Against City was one off the top of my head. He blatantly dived and was already on a yellow.
If he stays then he will revert to type and spend half the season suspended because expecting the little twat to go two years without showing his true colours is too muchIf this doesn't happen (Suarez's daughter has just been enrolled into a Liverpool school for September) will this place go into full meltdown. For the past 18 months the refrain has been: "They'll be screwed when Suarez leaves".
What if he stays?
What a glib, over cooked opinion. It was supposed to happen last season...If he stays then he will revert to type and spend half the season suspended because expecting the little twat to go two years without showing his true colours is too much
Ummm he DID revert to type last season, he bit ivanovich, not the first time he's done it, before that it was being a rat faced racist little wank boy. He will do something equally despicable next season. What a glib, over cooked opinion. It was supposed to happen last season...
As for reverting to type, ripping up the league by scoring and creating goals? There's a very good chance of that.
Last season, as in most recent one where he scored or created 40+ goals.Ummm he DID revert to type last season, he bit ivanovich, not the first time he's done it, before that it was being a rat faced racist little wank boy. He will do something equally despicable next season.
Sorry, I'm talking about the season you didn't finish second. The season just finished he was exceptional, granted, and I'm far from certain he will leave, but if he doesn't his track record realistically suggests it won't be long before he does something vileLast season, as in most recent one where he scored or created 40+ goals.
Two strands are now appearing here. Firstly he is leaving to Real. Secondly, if he does stay he will be suspended for loads of games.
Either way it's obviously bad news for Liverpool.
Is that funny?not one single neutral I know wanted Liverpool to win, City or Chelsea was their choice.
Is that funny?
Unless Suarez or his wife have confirmed this publicly, then that is some of the weirdest ITK information I've ever seen.If this doesn't happen (Suarez's daughter has just been enrolled into a Liverpool school for September) will this place go into full meltdown. For the past 18 months the refrain has been: "They'll be screwed when Suarez leaves".

I can't claim to be ITK...Unless Suarez or his wife have confirmed this publicly, then that is some of the weirdest ITK information I've ever seen.
Hmmm, crystal ball-based conjecture. Fair enough. And if he stays, which I'm expecting him to now, I expect him to have another great season. But he's not Ronaldo or Messi, he's not going to rip through all competitions. With more games to play plus coming back from a World Cup where Uruguay could go quite far, he won't be as explosive as he was this season.
Yeah, he could be average for sure!Hmmm, crystal ball-based conjecture. Fair enough.
Seriously, I'm asking.
At no point in my post did I say it all went Liverpool's way. This is classic blinkered subjectivity. Big calls go both ways. As a United fan you're inclined to recall the ones that went Liverpool's way. But off the top if my head there's the "offside" against City (away) and the foul on Suarez in the box at Chelsea. Using it wrong.Enrolling a child in a prospective school has got to be the flimsiest mitigation for staying I've read from the media or supporters in a long time.
Very true.Using it wrong.
