I agree. I think van Gaal has said Young will play left and right wing back this game.
Be interesting that. Young's generally looked better since Van Gaal came in. Not amazing, but better. Valencia was solid enough but his decision making is still sometimes suspect. Less aimless crossing and more cutting back in from him though, good to see.

Inter are doing their best to make this game boring.

I know it's not easy to create chances against a team that plays like this, but I would like to see a little more cutting edge in our attacks. We still seem to struggle a bit to create chances against teams that lie deep.

Makes sense we are supposedly after somebody like Cuadrado to be fair, perfect for this line up and would suit the 4-3-3 as well.

You know what I think when I watch this Inter? Jose style play.

I think the plan B for when we play this system, coming up against a side playing like this Inter team, is to stretch their back-line and force their defenders out wide with runs from our wing-backs, but Valencia and Young are, as usual, having real trouble beating a man. They're a doing a good job defensively in the roles expected of them but there's a reason why their position is called 'wing-back' and not 'full-back'. The same goes for most of the other players who played in this position on this tour so far. The attacking part of the role isn't being performed well enough and so when we come up against teams playing like this we struggle to penetrate.

All we need to do is play this quick one touch football more often. We still need to long to get hold of the ball and look where the players are. THe one occassion we were able to do that looked like sex.

Some of the passing has been excellent and we are clearly in control here, inter offering nothing to the game so far. It does impress me quite a lot the fact that the defence has looked extremely solid on this tour, and fletcher has been motm so far in the midfield absolutely running things. Unfortunately herrera has found it more difficult but inter have been getting extremely tight to him. The movement up front needs to be better, I do worry about the lack of pace up top if we play rooney mata rvp.

Btw this new blue kit is sexy as feck

3-5-2 looks good but with the abundance of wingers (as opposed to wingbacks/fbs) there will be plenty of unhappy players come the start of the season.. unless Nani/Young/Kagawa get shipped out for a CM, a LWB and a CB

3-5-2 is really growing on me, Valencia would have been superb if he was his old self.. Smalling has impressed me so far too.

They've supported the front three and midfield as well as provide good defensive cover, can't really ask for more.
Good defensive cover as. But support the front three? By playing the safe pass and not hitting a good cross in once? They should do much better.

We have possession, but it's crap possession around the half-way line. Only had 1 or 2 really cutting edge moments, and too often we keep falling into the old trap of giving Valencia the ball and forcing him to do something with it when nobody else can. Jesus, Welbeck would be one of the best all-round strikers in the world if he could score consistently.

3 CB's look good.

To be honest Valencia and Young did very well today. But they and Mata need to do more to support the strikers. I've seen so many times Welbeck decided to come deeper just to get the ball.

The 3 defenders look very solid and great.

Passing look great as well.
I don't understand his role at all. He doesn't even try to get past his man. All he has been doing is passing it back to infield. And I don't rate him at the back, commits too many fouls. I don't think he put in any cross today.

If we had players performing from the wide areas we would be so much better. Dreadful dreadful stuff from Valencia and Young.
Look mate I really dislike Young playing for us as much as the next guy, but if that were Shaw out there I guarantee you would've called that at least a solid performance.

In Smalling's pocket (as every other person)
Goodness me, LVG has only been working with the players in a really short time yet we're playing some of the best football I have seen us do in recent times. Just imagine the type football we will be playing with few additions and a season or two under this fantastic man.:devil::devil::devil:
Do you think this is brilliant football? Quite boring imo, we have had 2 or 3 good attacks but further it was quite slow.

You're...going to love me
I would be nice to be able to tweak this system to add width. Perhaps sacrificing a striker or the number 10 for an out and out wide play to help stretch play in situations like this. Obviously not going to happen in this game because that's not the point but thinking for the future.

I agree with Young and Valencia doing a solid work defensibly, although their crossing is horrible.

Watching at the game. Some nice interplay up top. Wellbeck, Rooney and Mata interchanging well. Inter keep going long against our left-Young's been solid so far. Smalling having a nice game.

Inter's tough to break down-Mata was too unselfish with a chance in the box.

Valencia's been running the right wing well.

Forget the kit, anyone know how I could get one of those MUTV shirts? Epitome of cool.

Sexy move aside, the game has been very hard to watch. we haven't been looking for the final ball enough imo, being too patient. Evans has looked great again, Welbeck has been excellent when he's been involved, but we didn't get the ball to him enough, some very nice stuff from Herrera, doing a lot better than the last game, fletcher doing a good job, Mata doing excellent, Valencia has made a few mistakes, but imo this is his best performance so far this pre-season, Young has been solid, but not offering enough in attack. Inter playing defensive, but we need to be able to break down these sides. If it was the same team, I'd fancy us to win, but with all the changes that are going to be made, I wouldn't be surprised if this is our first loss.

I know it's pre-season and we don't know how committed in attack Inter are but that was better passing than we produced the whole of last season

Fletcher is a having a good game but that's partly because Inter are sitting back and allowing us to have the ball. Our real test and weakness has always been against teams that press us hard and I'm still uncomfortable if Fletcher was to be made a stable figure in our Central midfield.

Good first half from the team , nobody really standing out and everyone playing decent (What more can you really do when Inter is defending like this is a Cup final)
