Looking over my shoulder.
Who the feck is that? Don't shout against Ashley Young, you twat. Jones was the only fool on that play when a CB's job is simple: keep moving your feet and NEVER THROW YOURSELF ON THE GROUND.
Exactly why I prefer Smalling to Jones - Jones rushes into challenges too much whereas Smalling tackles at the right time. That, and Smalling's ability to keep up with Sterling is golden.

Should never have been a penalty. Sterling takes a touch inward and then Jones hits the ball so it clearly changes direction maybe 60 70 degrees and ends up nowhere near the goal, definitely not a penalty since Jones clearly hit the ball first. Seems like most people think it was a correct penalty.

In my mind both Gerrard and Sterling should have gotten a red card. It is never okay to first dive, and then pick up the ball with your hands in order to stop the other team from attackin.

You're...going to love me
I hate Warren Barton but he's absolutely right on Fox. His points are basically United are f*cked because of two things:

1. Rodgers knows the back 3 can't hurt him, so he doesn't need to worry about them. And he's right, they can't pass the ball 10 yards.
2. We don't have the pace in behind, so LFC can compress the pitch into about 25 yards. And it's easy to defend like that.

What happened to the Hernandez of 4 years ago, that forced defences to play 10 yards deeper?
Four years ago Hernandez just signed for United.

Rooney needs to get that whole switching it to the wing thing coached out of him. He has done it every time he came in to his right. Its very annoying. We are lacking ideas upfront. We seem to get to their 18 yard line and lose all composure.

Sunny, sunny Manchester.
Quite simply pathetic performance. Back 3 look like strangers to one and other, Fletch is wasteful on the ball and Javier doing his best to be one of those told by LVG they aren't saying.

On the other hand, Stevie Me is doing a great job refereeing the game.
I don't see 'pool as stronger than the other teams we've played but they are the first team that has brought tempo and it seems to be giving us problems.
All in all, friendly it may be we look a completely different team from the one that wiped the floor with Madrid Saturday night. I'd imagine LVG will have a few words to say.

It certainly isn't going smoothly for them but to be fair, I was wondering how we'd get on against what is a totally different opponent from the teams we played in this preseason before today.

Herrera is a Spanish Henderson.

He has declined as the games have become more competitive.
:lol:This forum kills me sometimes.

Hernandez's weak linkup play is showing as he has been pretty much invisible this half except for the chance that he fluffed , really missing Welbeck (never thought I'd say that).

Mata's been isolated and Rooney's got a weird obsession with hitting Hollywood balls to Young when 4 players are standing around him and are in far more dangerous position , needs to start making simple short passes to people around him.

Ashley young on the Right wing is better defensively than going on attack , still hit some pretty good crosses.

Shaw has been Excellent , probably our most composed defender which really shows the state of our defence when a 19 year old looks the most comfortable on the Ball.

Herrera/Fletcher have been decent , herrera making a few too many clumsy tackles in his enthusiasm to win the ball.
The Defence looks clueless , playing like this is their first game together.

We're not getting mollywhopped either , Liverpool created 1 chance of note and the penalty was a Jones mistake.

Need to make changes in the next half at around the 60 min mark , give Kagawa,Zaha and Blackett a chance to impress

Cant understand people saying Herrera was bad. I think he had a good game so far.
They've clearly misunderstood fouls for 'being bad'. I bet some of these people haven't watched Keano in his prime. He fouled opposition all over the park despite his good play and yet we called him 'hard man'. Essentially, Herrera is a hard man who has lovely passing skills.

Been disappointed with our performance. Very sloppy at times but with some glimpses of class. Hope we get our act together. This performance highlights are need to strengthen the back and midfield. Cant depend on 2 or 3 midfielder for the whole season.

Jonny Evans playing like a 14 year old girl. Smalling made no mistakes tonight but played some poor passes. I think Jones is actually the best of the three tonight, stupid tackle obviously, you're bound to get unlucky taking risks like that.

Our passing's pretty awful at times, but we're actually doing quite well. Compared to Liverpool, both teams have had their sloppy and their good moments and neither of the two should be considered the better one after 45 minutes. Although being down against Liverpool makes grown men very emotional and incapable of applying logic.

Sterling is scary good, to be honest. He could be the player england has been waiting for.
Really? IF true England can get used to either missing the major tournaments or going out first round. He is a quick, shifty player, but let's not go overboard...

hernandez abuse everything he gets at top. He could have scored early on and touches is so poor.

Another random concern, has De Gea ever saved a penalty for us since that one against RVP in 8-2 against Arsenal? I genuinely can't remember.

The way this defence is going we're going to end up conceding some penalties next season. Maybe it's something De Gea can work on.
Ogden was saying he'd seen us practicing penalties in training in every session and has yet to see him save one.

Didn't he have a good record before he joined us?

Kagawa and Cleverley on for Hernandez and Fletcher. Hit them with our own rendition of the magic square.

Herrera and Fletcher seem to like passing it backwards a bit too much, neither have been great this half, but hopefully they can pick it up!

I think the big problem is it feels as if we are playing with 10 men.
When Fletcher picks up the ball, he's struggling to do anything with it.

Herrera as been tidy, but one thing I have noticed, is that he goes on the floor into tackles often.
Jones needs to stay up more to. I know he won the ball to an extent for the penalty, but he does go down to often, in and around the box.

I think Liverpool and United are a total mismatch this days, in favour of Liverpool.
Their high energy levels and willingness to press high up the pitch is the best way to play against United. We are a team that struggle under the tempo and pressure

Failing a Jib anywhere, anyhow
Many think the 3 at the back will compensate for 2 in midfield , that has not happened first half.

The other problem is? The defenders at the back apart from maybe smalling, are not footballing CB's, so they are getting caught in possession, we defiantly need another defender at times when you see the way jones dives in carelessly
Smalling is feckint dreadful on the ball... Evans is miles ahead of him with his distribution.

Evans looks out of place... He's been dreadfull.. Nothing in the match, one rash tackle! But we need to strengthen in the Cb area.

This game shows how pivotal Welbeck is in the final third. Fletcher looks absolutely dead, shouldn't be playing. Evans has looked bizarrely weak on the ball, and Jones has been too reckless. Ander has been good with the ball, but the silly fouls need to stop.

The Americans really now how to do their half time breaks. I'd love to see something like that on a CL night at OT.

Just watching this match, it's dawned on me that Liverpool have still got quite a few number of new players they've brought in too to come into the squad. It's quite silly how all the other big clubs have identified who they want early and either got them or found replacements and brought them in. The team that needed improvements the most bought a player that no one else wanted for £27m and triggered a release clause for a midfielder they wanted a year ago. If we don't get anyone in the next week, ready for the start of the PL season, it's been another shambles of a transfer window imo.
Bare in mind all these other clubs had pre-July to prepare. We didn't really because van Gaal (as he's demonstrated) wants a good luck at our squad to see which area to strengthen. No need for panic with still a good month left.

Shocking display so far looks more Moyes than Van Gaal. So slow and the defending comical. I knew this game would be our toughest as another premier league team who will hassle and close down more aggressively than other European sides. Pre season or not all this shows so far is Hernandez deserves his back up role and we need an experienced top draw centre back and midfielder ASAP. Herrera resorting to fouls as frustrated, game is passing him by and unfortunately it will against top teams this season without better company in the middle. Fletcher having a mare and Rooney overplaying. Definite good team talk required as Liverpool tactics working fine so far....

I'm certain he would keep it tight and into feet if Hernandez had ever shown any indication he could play like that. He has done it with Welbeck on this tour and has picked his cross field passes well.

herrera looks a bit like he needs time to get used to the tempo in epl.
Maybe, but if your assessment is based on the fouls he's made, then maybe not. He's always been a player who puts in a hard tackle. He does commit a fair few fouls too.

Thank god for this match. It highlights that our defence and midfield are weak. Now we will do transfers.

HOWEVER, we have only been practising this new formation for 2 weeks and the training session were 'open training session' due to the amount of travelling!
I agree. I'm glad because I'm not convinced that we have the quality we need. It's not about being knee jerk just it's clear that some players simply aren't good enough for where we want to be.....I still stand by we need 2 CB, 2 CM and a forward.
