Chicharito needs service to perform. Another reason why Welbeck is so much better suited for us.
Needs service? He couldn't even do a simple tap in before we conceded the peno. That would have made a huge difference. FFS the team should not be so nervous

Rooney needs to get that whole switching it to the wing thing coached out of him. He has done it every time he came in to his right. Its very annoying. We are lacking ideas upfront. We seem to get to their 18 yard line and lose all composure.
His switching is the only thing that's creating space and allowed Young to get some crosses in that should of been attacked..

Us playing so badly may be a good thing. It just reminds Van Gaal that this team really does needs strengthening and that he shouldn't be happy with what he's got.

This first half reminds me of some past games against Liverpool which we lost, including those last season. They score an early goal, and then we attack but most of the time look toothless

The nerves are showing a bit in this game. Sterling is a real threat for them, Jones giving another penalty away. Fletcher is so average it's worrying, we need a proper midfielder to accompany Herrera. It's only pre season but it's an interesting display tactically. Hernandez is rubbish at link up play, really breaks momentum in our play. Young has been good on this tour. LVG won't be happy with the defense, time to break the bank for Hummels. Still early but we need to test Mignolet. Wonder if they will release another book if they win this trophy:wenger:

We look much shakier at the back with Smalling as the middle of the three than with Jones.

Young has been excellent again and has saved his Utd career.

Herrera needs to stop jumping into tackles.

Hernandez is finished at United.

At the back De Gea has been good, Smalling has been OK but Evans and Jones rubbish.
Young has been good although I prefer him on the left - his crossing has been good though. Shaw has done well since coming on.

Herrera has looked tidy but if this was the PL would have been booked by now, needs to be a bit careful.
Fletcher has been our worst player. Poor passing and control, has stopped playing it forward.

Mata has again looked tidy but the attack hasn't really clicked - Welbeck is needed and maybe Kagawa as well. Rooney needs to learn to pass to someone other than whoever is the RWB/Winger, Hernandez has been poor, his decision making especially.

I'm just going on The Caf
A frustrating half, defence wise we're all over the shop when pressurised and nothing of note being contributed by our central 3.Hopefully LVG can change things about for this second half.

Except a stupid Jones challenge where he got bit of the ball, it's been a even game tbf.

Sterling is the one causing us problems. Someone needs to bully him physically.
This is about right. A fair bit of overreaction in here.

I think the big problem is it feels as if we are playing with 10 men.
When Fletcher picks up the ball, he's struggling to do anything with it.

Herrera as been tidy, but one thing I have noticed, is that he goes on the floor into tackles often.
Jones needs to stay up more to. I know he won the ball to an extent for the penalty, but he does go down to often, in and around the box.

I think Liverpool and United are a total mismatch this days, in favour of Liverpool.
Their high energy levels and willingness to press high up the pitch is the best way to play against United. We are a team that struggle under the tempo and pressure
Part of this is Fletcher having a nad game and part of it is the lack of movement off the ball. Its not just Fletcher struggling to find the next pass, a number of players are having trouble seeing any options because so many of the team are static.

Walter Crickmer started it all...
You lot are cracking me up…so we need a LB a RB, two CH's, a MF and another forward?

Jesus…you were the same guys saying Moyes had inherited a great squad…now you want them all transferred because of a poor 20 mins in a pre-season friendly.

Hilarious!

Should never have been a penalty. Sterling takes a touch inward and then Jones hits the ball so it clearly changes direction maybe 60 70 degrees and ends up nowhere near the goal, definitely not a penalty since Jones clearly hit the ball first. Seems like most people think it was a correct penalty.
Sterling would have still gotten on the end of it hadn't Jones swiped him out. Stonewall penalty imo.

Theres no need in getting carried away, Hernandez should have scored after 5 min and it would be a different story perhaps.

What concerns me slightly, is how close this is to our best starting 11 - missing only Carrick and RvP probably. The lack of pace in the front three today is fairly evident, although completely unsurprising. RvP will hardly improve upon that situation either.

Regardless you have to consider the recklessness and rash nature of the tackle. Absolutely horrendous decision

They've clearly misunderstood fouls for 'being bad'. I bet some of these people haven't watched Keano in his prime. He fouled opposition all over the park despite his good play and yet we called him 'hard man'. Essentially, Herrera is a hard man who has lovely passing skills.
Just what we need in the midfield if you ask me.

Maybe, but if your assessment is based on the fouls he's made, then maybe not. He's always been a player who puts in a hard tackle. He does commit a fair few fouls too.
He'll get used to the pace of prem football in time I'm sure, He was lucky he didn't give away another penalty though.

You must be off your rocker chief any fan biased or un can see how much of a stone wall peno that was
I'm watching the game from a German stream, at least I watched it from an angle where I could see that it was not a penalty at all. Did you watch the incidence from behind?

Very poor first half. Liverpool look sharper and more composed. Fletcher is being found out and the back line looks shaky almost Moyes era esque. Young is playing much deeper on the right and hernandez is not a great partner for Rooney.

I think we'll loose, Cleverley won't do much better against their midfield.

Aye, aside from not being able to take your username seriously at all, I agree.

Think Welbeck for Hernandez makes a massive difference to our ability to play through the middle/in behind.
I agree totally, Welbeck's movement and dropping deep to allow space in behind him really helps massively. Not to mention his pace on the ball and his surprisingly good passing range.

What's wrong with the Username, lad?

Bare in mind all these other clubs had pre-July to prepare. We didn't really because van Gaal (as he's demonstrated) wants a good luck at our squad to see which area to strengthen. No need for panic with still a good month left.
That was a mistake on LvG and United's part, I feel. I mean we pulled the same shit last season and look how that turned out! It doesn't take a genius either to tell who the deadwood and weaknesses are in this squad.

Really? IF true England can get used to either missing the major tournaments or going out first round. He is a quick, shifty player, but let's not go overboard...
He's very quick on his feet and, despite only being 19, shows that he's not just a boneheaded, raw athlete but actually understands how the game works. The fact that he's a scouser doesn't change that.

This is a great test. First time under LVG we fight from a 1-0 behind. Lets see how we play under pressure.

Same as last season. No midfield at all. Fletcher has been shite. Evans is shitting himself and Jones is a headless chicken. Chic isn't good enough either. Blow it up Van Gaal!!

Calm down cnutos. It's a friendly game being played at a snail's pace. There isn't much happening.
